Little Achievers Urban Forest School Nursery is situated close to the heart of Preston city centre. The nursery can welcome up to 72 children. Each child has their own key carer who looks to ensure early years’ potential is achieved.

The nursery is split into 3 age ranges however the rooms can flow easily to aid transition for children when moving to new groups. Along with fully qualified childcare professionals, their nursery also has trained Forest School practitioners.

The aim of the friendly team of staff is to encourage children to confidently learn and develop, benefiting from a focus on key skills, such as numeracy, creativity literacy and curiosity.

Little Achievers Urban Forest School Nursery uses the Reggio Emilia Approach to Early Years Childcare and Education, a philosophy that uses four key principles to focus on a child's natural development. The approach is both child-centred and directed, taking the philosophy that learning must make sense to the child in order to be effective and meaningful.

All nursery pre-school children are able to access their own forest school, where children experience accelerated learning in a unique environment developing new skills, communication, improved health and personal development through learning outdoors. This time spent in outdoor spaces and reflective practice develops a child's resilience and re-frames a child's own view of risk. Forest school is about a different way of learning, the ever-changing outdoors, the passage of time, the changes in seasons, nature, different sources of smells and textures. The ever-changing environment can stimulate learning in a very different environment.

The nursery holds the coveted NDNA E-Quality award for providing high-quality childcare and education (2016).

My child has been attending this setting since she was seven months old. She loves coming to nursery and enjoys her time here.

The staff are so caring and good with the children. My son's key carer is brilliant - he loves her. She is kind, friendly and enthusiastic. She knows him really well and is always recording his progress and teaching him new things. Both my children have been well looked after here.

My son has been attending Little Achievers @ Headstart Nursery since he was 9-months-old. He really enjoys coming to nursery and is always welcomed every morning with a warm and welcoming smile by all the staff and he has a really good bond with all the staff especially his key carer. As busy working
parents, it's nice to be kept updated on my son's progress and activities he's been up to during the course of the day. Not only by the daily diary but via EYLOG (on-line application) too. Great idea. Brilliant nursery with amazing staff where my son is nurtured and lovingly cared for. I would highly recommend.

I do not have a specific incident or occasion to write a review about but overall I am very satisfied with the nursery. The staff are very pleasant and the environment that my child is in I feel that is very good. My daughter likes the nursery very much and talks all about the staff even at home. All
three of my children have gone to this nursery over the last 10 years and I can say all have enjoyed the nursery and from a parent's point of view I am very happy and would likely recommend this nursery and its staff.

My sons development is always the focal point here. He is ahead in most things intellectually which we believe is due to the nurturing and caring environment that he receives here and the activities he can also continue at home. He especially loves the ballet classes that are integrated into the learning
schedule. His key carer spends quality time with him working on the The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) scheme and skills. He has just turned 3 and is already building his numerical and alphabetical recognition and can point to correct numbers and letters - something we work on at home but is clearly worked on at nursery. He is always asking to go in. He loves it, can't recommend it enough.

Excellent nursery. Staff are very caring and give a lot of attention to my son. They also provide a lot of extra curriculum activities, like Forest school where children can learn about nature and they have a lot of activities out in fresh air. The nursery has different rooms and a large garden to cater

Gina Brierley

Job Title: Nursery Lead Joined: 2015

Hello, I am Gina and I have worked for Little Achievers Urban Forest School since September 2015. I have completed my BA Honours Degree in Children, School and Their Families. I have worked myself up through the years from Early Years Educator to Nursery Lead.


I have loved watching children learn, develop and grow throughout the years. I am also Level 3 qualified in Forest school and enjoy planning activities for the children to help them develop their life skills.


In my spare time, I enjoy socialising with my family and friends. I also enjoy going on family fun days with my niece.
