Situated in Padgate, this purpose-designed, single-storey nursery provides a secure and engaging setting where children can grow and develop with confidence. A key emphasis is placed on outdoor learning, with an expansive external area that encourages children to connect with nature, explore woodland spaces, enjoy open landscapes, and take part in active play - helping to nurture curiosity and a spirit of adventure.

Indoors, the nursery is thoughtfully organised into age-appropriate rooms to support each stage of early development. This includes a dedicated baby room for children aged 3 months to 2 years, alongside a nursery room for those aged 2 to 4 years. The setting also benefits from a spacious outdoor environment, a separate dining space, a quiet focus room, a designated nappy-changing area, and an office.

Ashbourne Day Nurseries places strong importance on nutrition as part of a child’s early years. Children are provided with freshly prepared, seasonal meals, including lunches and high teas each day. Individual dietary needs are carefully accommodated, supported by a colour-coded allergy system, while younger children are guided through the weaning process to ensure they receive appropriate nourishment.

The nursery follows its own Future Foundations curriculum, delivered by a team of experienced practitioners committed to supporting every aspect of a child’s development. From infancy through to school readiness, each child’s progress is closely observed, with tailored activities and enriching experiences planned to suit their individual needs. Welcomm assessments are also used to monitor speech and language development, enabling early identification and referral where appropriate.

Great staff, friendly atmosphere. Our son started this nursery crying every day at drop off but by the end, he loved going and made a few friends. Staff worked with us to potty train. Homework was given to boost learning, great staff.

My son joined Birch Grove just under 2 years ago, aged 2.5 years. He was very shy, nervous and quiet outside of his comfort zone.

The staff at Birch Grove took on his needs with kindness, patience and compassion. He soon came out of his shell and was allowed to do so at his own pace whilst also

receiving gentle encouragement.

Big plus points for us have been the large and well-maintained garden, outside areas and play equipment. Inside there are lots of little areas for different activities like role play, IT, reading etc. The age groups are taken to their own areas to do age-appropriate learning activities.

Staff are knowledgeable, friendly, polite and courteous. It is clear that everyone who works there is there because they love their job. As a parent I have never worried about leaving my son in their care, it is undoubtedly safe and well managed. I have felt supported and have had a lovely relationship with both my child's key workers.

I highly recommend Birch Grove.

I would recommend Birch Grove Nursery as it is a very well run nursery. The staff are very committed to providing a caring environment for the children. I can sense that it's a friendly environment between the staff. Also very impressed with the mixture of activities that are organised there. The lasting
feeling is my son has had a great start to learning.

My two children (3 and 1) have been going to Birch Grove since April and both absolutely love being there. I knew as soon as I walked into the nursery for a visit, this was the one that my children would be going to. They have both come on in leaps and bounds within the few months of being here. The
nursery staff are very welcoming to parents/carers but the love and care they have for the children is amazing. Both of their key workers are great and are always full of information at the end of each day. I love speaking with them and hearing about what they have both been up to throughout the day. I feel very confident in leaving my children with the amazing staff and I know if they have any concerns they will call me straight away. Nothing is ever too much for the staff and they are always happy to help. I would definitely recommend the nursery to anybody looking.

Birch Grove is a fantastic nursery with amazing staff. It has a lovely warm welcoming feeling when you walk in and the staff always greet you with a smile. The way in which they treat the children is amazing. They teach them to become independent, to try new things but most of all how to learn whilst
having fun. My little boy has been going for 2 years and I can honestly say he is turning into such a clever confident little boy with the support of all the staff here. He always has a full tummy and a smile on his face when I pick him up. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff and they spend time at the end of each day to tell me what my little boy has been up to and has learnt that day. I have no hesitation in recommending this nursery to anyone and will miss all the girls and parents when we leave in September. Keep up the great work girls.

I can't fault birch grove! They are fabulous, my daughter has been going since she was 1 year old even though she has started school (15 hours). She still spends time at Birch Grove before school! Its not every day you get nursery's offering before and after school care, they help so much to fit into
our work routine. My daughter really enjoys going and when she plays up the staff are always there to rely on! She's learning so much from counting, to sign language (her favourite) messy play, also when it was potty training time the staff were perfect I couldn't have done without them! Me and my partner spent a number of days visiting nurseries for our daughter and once we saw Birch Grove we didn't visit any more, I love how open this nursery is and how much space and garden space there is! Keep up the work!!!!

I've had my little boy here since age 3 years and my little girl age 9 months (now 4 years 6 months and 1 year 4 months). They love the nursery and I can see they feel very comfortable here. The nursery are very good with requirements (lactose intolerant daughter and son has severe speech delay). The
compulsory taught makaton sign language has filled my son with confidence and helped him communicate with his peers.

I would recommend to anybody to consider this nursery for their child.

Our little one loves this nursery so much she is close to tears at weekend when she realises she isn't going. We have seen her develop so much from her first steps to first proper words and know that being at Birch Grove has significantly accelerated the development. Can't praise the staff enough
for what they do.

Listening to stories from friends about their experiences at their own nurseries we know that we have made the right choice.

Thanks Team

My daughter has been at this nursery since 2015 and I cannot praise the facilities and staff enough. It is very evident that they care very much about each child in their care and as a parent that's something of a priority. I have found that my child's self esteem, confidence and awareness of others
has come on in leaps and bounds and that's due in no small part to the education she receives whilst at the nursery. I would be happy to recommend this nursery to anyone and everyone.

Birch Grove is a brilliant Nursery with lovely and helpful staff. My Daughter learnt lots of things while there, Alphabet, counting and writing her name and more. The Staff always keep you updated with what your child has been doing. And they have lots of fun stay and play sessions where you can join
in. Would recommend the Nursery to anyone

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.950) out of 10 for Ashbourne Day Nurseries at Padgate is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.950 for Ashbourne Day Nurseries at Padgate is calculated as follows: ( (229 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 238 Ratings = 4.95
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashbourne Day Nurseries at Padgate is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 number of registered child places is 10, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
