For over 25 years Heron Day Nursery has been working in partnership with staff, parents and outside agencies to deliver the best possible start in life.

Staff work to ensure each child has the highest quality of learning in a safe and welcoming environment.

The nursery, which takes children from six weeks to five-years-old, has a spacious outdoor play environment for children to explore and learn in. Inside, each room is open plan with a variety of stimulating activities to encourage children to thrive.

The nursery provides an out of school club for children aged four to 12 years that attend Mabs Cross Primary School and St Marys and St Johns Primary school in Wigan. They provide holiday club for all children to attend aged four to 12 years with a variety of stimulating activities.

The nursery has a current Ofsted rating of 'Good' (May 2022) and a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 - Very Good (January 2023).

It offers two, three and four-year-old funding, and 30 hours' funding for three and four-year-olds. The nursery offers flexibility to use funded hours to support parents and offer a 51 week spread.

Both our children have attended Heron Day Nursery. We have found all staff to be friendly, approachable and helpful. We have found that staff have gone out of their way to help both children in their learning and development, and constantly seem to think of new, fun ways to help children develop in
all areas of learning. One of our children had anxieties about being away from mum and dad, but staff and his key worker helped put him, and us, at ease. Our other child absolutely loves nursery, her key worker and other staff are fantastic with her.

Our son has been attending Heron Day Nursery since he was six months old and has loved it since day one. He has been going since January and I have never had any concerns or worries. He has learnt so much I can't thank the staff enough. The whole team are fab.

A fantastic nursery that both my children have attended, one is still there. They help children with learning, with the added touch of care and compassion. I have rarely had problems with the nursery, but any issues are dealt with quickly and respectfully. I couldn't recommend this nursery enough and
will be sad when my youngest leaves.

I have an NVQ level 5 Early years qualification, paediatric first aid, food hygiene level 3 and safeguarding level 3. I am designated lead for the nursery and have completed many courses throughout my years to gain a wide range of knowledge and experience. I am also a mother to three children who are now growing up into amazing young adults and both my girls are following the passion I have for childcare in working in early years.
