The Old School Nursery is a beautiful rural nursery situated in Honington at the Sleaford/Lincoln fork (A607/A153) just 10 mins from Grantham centre and the next village on from Barkston.

The nursery offers government funded places from nine months old (subject to eligibility), government funded places for three and four-year-olds and is registered with the Government Tax-Free childcare scheme.

The nursery is Hygge accredited - Hygge is the Danish way of living, incorporating mindfulness, a sense of being, and caring for yourself and others. The children enjoy a calm and relaxing atmosphere where they can explore, learn through their experiences and have fun.

The nursery garden has a wealth of experiences for the children. A sensory path, known as the Mindfulness walk, a tee-pee, a large 'Fort' incorporating things to climb, tyre-swings and a slide, large tractor tyres to climb, and a viewing station so that the children can say Hello to the donkeys and the ponies in the field next door. The garden also has raised beds where the children grow vegetables, which are then cooked by the resident chef. The nursery prides itself in being sustainable, and the items in the garden have been transformed from other items, such as pallets, old tyres, wood left-over from projects.

Inside, the nursery promotes a feeling of home in a calming environment, where the children are free to explore the natural open-ended resources, to enhance their learning. The practitioners are resources too, who sit with the children, join in their play, and enhance the learning opportunities when the time is right, by asking open-questions, and showing the children how to find out things.

A small setting in a small village location, The Old School Nursery really is a hidden gem, where the families become an extended family, where they care for each other and thrive on the enjoyment they have.

Our daughter loves the nursery and the staff members. As a parent, it is really reassuring to see the real and genuine interest all of the staff members show in your child and in relation to their development. There always seems to be a new activity to get involved in and it is great to see how these
are informed and developed on the interest shown by the children.

We are really happy with the nursery, more importantly though, the boys are happy. The staff always seem caring and kind, often thinking of new activities to keep young minds interested. It's excellent value for money and the team seem to work really well together.

My son has been at Dappledown since last October when he was 10 months old. The care and attention he has received has been second to none and I have no reservations in recommending the nursery to any prospective parents. He couldn't be happier to run in each morning and has formed some lovely relationships
and friendships with the other children. The care and dedication shown by his key workers and other nursery staff have certainly made returning to work much easier for me, knowing he was in safe hands and enjoying his time spent there.

Dappledown is a great nursery in a lovely surrounding. My son has been going since he was 8 months old (now 2 1/2years) and we have never had any concerns with the care he receives. All the staff are great, very friendly and easy to speak to. The nursery is always doing new projects for the children
to get involved with to help their development.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.979) out of 10 for The Old School Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.979 for The Old School Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 240 Ratings = 4.979
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old School Nursery is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 number of registered child places is 5.2, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
