  • The Old Station Nursery Filkins, Lechlade
Nestled within a charming rural community near Lechlade, The Old Station Nursery Filkins offers exceptional childcare services. Housed in the former village school, the nursery has warm and welcoming rooms designed to support children’s development at every stage. The nursery offers exceptional care, enriched by unique learning opportunities for your child. One such experience is child-friendly cooking classes, helping to equip children with valuable skills and deeper knowledge of the cooking process.

The Old Station Nursery Filkins has recently extended its provision to introduce a brand-new 9-place baby room, providing a cosy and nurturing environment for young learners. From the age of two, children can join the 2–4-year-olds' room, where age-appropriate resources and activities tailored to their interests are provided. As children progress, they move to the Pre-School room, where they can learn and play in a safe and nurturing environment. The team emphasises child-led activities whenever possible while also providing structured sessions to help children develop. Additionally, weekly French lessons and preparation for school are included in the Pre-School curriculum.

Outdoor play and exploration are at the heart of the ethos at the nursery, with weekly Forest School sessions for the children to immerse themselves in the natural world. Each child can explore and engage in a mud kitchen, play in dens, and care for the different animals, such as chickens and guinea pigs.

The qualified and dedicated team is passionate about providing high-quality care for all children at the nursery, which is reflected in the Millie's Mark award, recognising the team’s commitment to paediatric first aid.

Filkins nursery is every parent's dream! Their curriculum is outstanding! Every day there is something new and imaginative going on, I have no idea how they manage to think of so many new concepts. The love, care and time they give to the children is really admirable. My daughter adores her key working
and there is nothing more reassuring than knowing your child is in a place where the pastoral care is outstanding! The communication is absolutely fantastic especially having the added bonus of their online app which means we get to see pictures and read about what our children have been doing on a day to day basis. If only we had lived in the area when my oldest child was at nursery! I feel like she really missed out not going to Filkins! I couldn’t recommend it highly enough!!!

Filkins Nursery is fabulous and my daughter has thrived there with the lovely and talented staff. The forest school, music class and friendships are a few of the highlights she tells me about after each day. I can’t wait for my son to start there soon too!

My son has been attending Filkins Nursery for a few months now and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff, the pastoral care and broad and balanced curriculum that is on offer. From day one we were both made to feel so welcome and my son very quickly built up a close relationship with his key carer.
It is such a comfort to be able to drop him off at a place where I know he is safe, happy and nurtured. He loves the outdoor space and attending Forest School with the chickens! Communication with parents is excellent; I always know what our son has been learning, what topics they will be looking at in the coming weeks and what his next developmental targets are. It truly is an outstanding nursery.

Filkins Nursery is a really important part of our daughter's (and therefore our) lives. We have watched her develop wonderful relationships with the other children as well as with the staff who are the kindest most patient bunch you could imagine. Her little brother is very excited to take her spot
at Filkins when his sister goes up to big school in September with us knowing that she is entirely ready socially and academically thanks to Filkins. Couldn't recommend the manager and her team more highly.

A wonderful nursery with competent and caring staff. I highly recommend this nursery as they really helped my child in his learning and behavioural skills. They were patient and understanding and brought out the best in my child.
We shall miss all of the staff at Filkins and will be grateful for all
of their care and support.
They are all highly trained and clearly care about all of the children in their care.

Our daughter attended the Old Station Nursery pre school full time this year. Not once did our little girl never want to go to nursery, if anything she wanted to be there even longer! The staff work tirelessly to develop the children and created such a strong bond with them, it was amazing to see. By
the end of her preschool year all our concerns about our daughter being ready for school had disappeared, all thanks to the Old Station Nursery.

I have no hesitation in recommending Filkins Nursery to anyone.
We put both our children through Filkins prior to starting school and feel they have been given the perfect start. The right mix between play and "education" and a great mix between indoor and outdoor work. Our children loved the space
outside with lots of space to run around. Lots of extras like French and singing etc...

We were genuinely sorry when it was time for our children to leave nursery - some of the staff had become like friends.
The OFSTED report doesn't lie - the only way to describe the nursery is OUTSTANDING.

The level of care this nursery has shown our son goes way beyond our expectations. If it wasn't for Filkins Nursery, I honestly believe our son would not have achieved his potential. They are fantastic.

Filkins Nursery is outstanding. I always feel happy dropping my children off in the mornings and the boys are always eager to get in and start playing. I am confident that all the staff care and look after the boys helping them learn and develop individually. I love picking my boys up and seeing the
wonderful things they have proudly created, which always follows an interesting topic or theme they are learning about each week. The communication between the nursery and myself is excellent with regular photos and updates on the private network and the staff are very efficient at getting back to me with any queries relating to hours or payments. My boys are happy, confident and well cared for and get to spend lots of time outside exploring and they love forest school. I have no hesitation in recommending Filkins Nursery.

Lovely, friendly nursery with amazing staff and great setting. The staff are absolutely wonderful and give each individual child the support, attention and care that they need. Activities vary from yoga, music to French lessons and classroom themes and topics change weekly. My daughter has always been

We love this nursery. Ever since he started, our son has loved it. All the staff are friendly, thoughtful and incredibly caring. There is a huge amount of thought and preparation that goes into the day to day activities which are fun, educational and varied. The outdoor space is fantastic and I love
that they spend as much time as possible out there.
The feedback on the day's activities is brilliant as are the regular updates and photos
We feel very lucky to have had 15 happy months at Filkins to date and will be sad to leave for school!

Filkins Nursery (The Old Station Nursery Ltd) is a wonderful nursery. The children are so well cared for and entertained daily with a wide range of activities that are imaginative and encourage learning. Management is very organised and everything runs smoothly. Filkins was the nursery I chose after visiting four local nurseries and on my first glance I knew it was the right choice for my little girl.
She loves nursery so much and talks about her key carer and other staff daily, she even asks to go when it's not her day.
I have noticed a huge improvement
in her development since she started nursery.
She often walks around the house singing songs from nursery especially 'wind the bobbin up' and the goodbye song but adds her own words. This has helped my daughter understand the routine of the nursery and for her to know when I will be back.
The activities are amazing and the staff work really hard to make sure the children have fun but also to develop their learning and make every day different.
She especially likes the Tatty Bumpkin and forest school sessions.
I am always kept up to date with important information via emails and parent newsletters. I am looking forward to participating in my first parent partnership meeting in February.

After we moved to the area from London, the nursery did an amazing job of welcoming my son and settling him in. We never had a single tear. The staff are fantastic, all activities well thought through, engaging, educational and fun. My son especially loves the additional lessons (yoga, music and french)
that are offered.
The nursery has lovely premises with plenty of outside space. The garden and messy play area are fantastic and the children love having animals to take care of. Frequent trips to the woods for 'Forest School' are much enjoyed and the special Christmas party in the village hall was a lovely treat for the kids.
Thoughtful details like this really make the nursery stand out. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to send my son to such an idyllic, loving and fun nursery.
He will be very sad to leave for school.

Our daughter has been attending Filkins Nursery for 18 months and in that time she has developed in so many ways, thanks to the nursery. The staff are helpful, friendly and well organised. We really feel that our daughter is in safe hands. Her key workers have really taken a keen interest in everything
she does, encouraging her to try all the activities that the nursery carries out. We are very fortunate to have this nursery on our doorstep.

I was very apprehensive about my son starting nursery but could not be happier with Falkins nursery. The staff are happy, friendly and go out of their way to make sure each child is happy. The activities the children do are fantastic and everything is very well organised. Potty training was made very
easy with the help of the nursery staff. They remained positive and helped make the transition into pants so much easier than I anticipated. A huge thanks to a 5-star nursery.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.617)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.617) out of 10 for The Old Station Nursery Filkins is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for The Old Station Nursery Filkins is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Station Nursery Filkins is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 number of registered child places is 6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
