  • We offer 9 month, 2 years, 3-4 year funding and non funded sessions.


    The standard 15 or 30 hours of funding is stretched over 51 weeks, allowing a maximum of 11 hours ( if only eligible for the 15 hours of funding- this applies to 3 year old's only) or 22 hours (if eligible for the full 30 hours of funding) per week.


    Our daily price for food includes all snacks/organic milk/lunch and dinner- we source predominately organic produce when and where possible.


    All our meals are lovingly prepared on-site by our experienced, full time chef. She uses fresh, high quality ingredients to create a delicious and nutritious range of snacks, lunches and dinners. We cater for all dietary needs and preferences. Our menus change seasonally to offer variety and reflect the best of what each season has to offer.


    Enhanced curriculum:
    We offer a range of enriching extras that are not covered by the government funding such as:
    Trips/ Music Mike/Yoga/Forest School /sun cream- these are just some of the many added experiences we provide to enhance your child's learning and enjoyment at nursery.

My son first started when he was 8 months old and was super happy. Perhaps equally importantly, I also felt really happy with him there, the staff were fantastic with him. I do contract work and Growing up Green has been fantastically flexible to ensure I have the child care I need to get the work done.

My son attended GUG 7 years ago, and despite us moving further away it was the obvious choice for us when looking for childcare for our daughter. The staff are wonderful, so caring and attentive and every time we drop her off/ pick her up you can just see that all the children there are happy and well
cared for. Management are always super helpful whenever we need anything. Absolutely love this nursery and would recommend it to everyone!!

Growing Up Green has been a fantastic nursery for both of our children. From baby room through to pre-school, they developed really close, nurturing relationships with staff and key-workers, who got to know their personalities and how to bring out the best in them. There's a wonderful range of engaging
activities, from yoga, to Music Mike, regular forest school park trips, lots of garden time, educational activities and cultural celebrations from Diwali and Eid to Christmas, Halloween and Pride. Home-cooked, healthy organic food and cloth nappies were a big bonus for us (since we used cloth at home). They were really supportive with potty training, transition between rooms and transition to school (Balfour & Downs especially) too. It's a wonderful, warm community with lots of opportunities to build connections too - including the annual "Olympics" event and regular parents' evenings. The garden is a bit small but well-used and regular forest school trips out make up for it.

My son joined Growing Up Green at 6 months old and has really thrived in the year that he has attended. The attention he has been given whilst at nursery is really evident in the speed of which he has learnt new skills.


The patience that the team have in the babies room is incredible (my son wasn't

always the easiest one to put down for a nap) and they are really knowledgeable in a wide range of children's development.
My son has grown a lovely attachment to the staff at GUG and really enjoys going there.


Also the food he gets at nursery is far superior to what he gets fed at home!

We feel so lucky to have such a wonderful nursery close by for our daughter. The care and support she receives is outstanding. There are so many daily activities, and they go outside as much as possible. There are regular updates to parents via the app and parents evenings, and our questions are always
answered by key workers or nursery management. She has strong bonds with all the staff and with the other children there. I am also always impressed with the food they provide and she eats so well when she is there. They also are very happy to follow our lead on things like naps which I hear other nurseries don't do! Overall we're super happy here.

Growing up green is a great nursery! Our eldest went there and they really set her up to thrive in her new infant school. Our youngest who is 15 months now girls to the nursery and us absolutely loving it! The staff are so wonderful, they truly care for the babies/teenies and in the short time she's
been there, she's built some really solid relationships with the nursery staff. They always do lovely activities with them, such as painting or get the foam play out etc. the communication with the staff is fab and I'm kept up to date with Marnie's day in terms of sleep, what's she's eaten and nappy changes etc as well as frequent pictures of her playing. We are so happy with the nursery and would recommend it to anyone.

We are so happy with the care our children have received at Growing Up Green. Our son spent 3 wonderful years here and is now thriving at school, thanks in large part to how well the team prepared him for that transition. His time at nursery was filled with engaging activities, nurturing support, and
precious friendships. Our 7-months old daughter has now started and she has been welcomed with the same warmth and attentiveness. What sets this nursery apart is also the sense of community they built amongst parent. We've also made amazing friends through the nursery! It's a place where children are seen, supported and celebrated.

It's hard as a new parent letting people outside of family care for your child but the GUG team handled the transition with great care and attention. We soon relaxed as we saw how well cared for our son was. We find the team to be supportive & helpful to parents and intuitive, caring, and professional
to the children. The structured play supports his confidence and development & we often find ourselves asking the team for their advice with particular milestones like potty training which they take a very active supportive role. You will also find that they are very good at helping the little ones learn to understand and regulate their emotions, this is further supported by weekly yoga classes which the kids absolutely love. The food is also a big plus at GUG. They do hot lunches and teas which makes our lives so much easier, and it is all freshly made on site. Our second son will be following in his brother's footsteps and enrolling at GUG soon!

Our daughter has been at Growing up Green, Beaconsfield Rd, Brighton for more than 4 years and has made great friendships with all her group. The care and support she has received from all of the staff has been outstanding. The nursery provided loads of activities to encourage her development and threw
in the right amount of hugs where needed. They listened and took positive action whenever I raised concerns and provided us with tips and insight into her life inside the nursery. They organised external fun activities both widening the children's knowledge and assisting parents to make connections. Whenever a health issue arose they followed it up with health information advice on how to manage it.

I am so grateful we chose Growing Up Green (Beaconsfield Villas) for our daughter. She spent four wonderful years there, and I couldn't have asked for a warmer, more nurturing start to her life.
The small class sizes have been invaluable, she grew up with the same group of children, and we have formed
strong bonds with other families as well. I know all her classmates and the key staff who cared for her by name, which gave us real peace of mind. This close-knit environment is a welcome contrast to larger nurseries, where children and staff often don't know each other's names.
The nursery offers a wide variety of rotating, age-appropriate activities and has an on-site chef preparing healthy hot lunches, helping the children develop a love for different foods.
Our daughter is now a confident, happy little girl, well-prepared for school. I wholeheartedly give this nursery 10/10 and recommend it to all my friends.

Growing Up Green is a fantastic nursery. They provide a range of age-appropriate activities for the children which are enjoyable and educational, they also provide regular updates on the website. At pick-up, my son is always in a great mood and tells me how much fun he's had. The staff at the nursery,

Growing Up Green is an excellent nursery and our twin boys have absolutely loved going since they started a year ago! They have a lovely relationship with their key workers (aunties) who really care about their happiness and development, understand their personality and needs and make them feel welcome
and accepted. Our little ones love the activities, the time in the garden, book reading, celebrations and they have developed leaps and bounds since going to Growing Up Green. The team has supported very closely in reviewing their development and we feel there couldn't be a better place for them to be, we totally recommend this nursery.

Growing Up Green is brilliant. Our twins have absolutely loved it there for the last year. They settled in really easily as the staff are so warm and friendly. Our daughter has gone through the nursery from the baby room through to preschool and at every stage the team have been fantastic with her. The staff are supportive and friendly.

Our son has been at Growing Up Green since we moved down to Brighton just before he turned two so he has been in the teenies under two's, toddlers and now the preschool room. He was previously at a nursery we were very happy with so we were nervous to move him but he's loved being at Growing Up Green
and has made some great friends. He used cloth nappies at home before he potty-trained so we were pleased they use them as standard at the nursery. He has a very special bond with his key worker who was the same for teenies and toddlers and he talks about her everyday, even on non-nursery days. It's clean, friendly, adaptable to the child's needs, receptive to parent feedback, safe and most importantly our son has lots of fun every day. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Growing Up Green to others.

Our daughter loves attending Growing Up Green each week and the staff that look after her there are excellent. Her development has been massively aided by attending the nursery and it really feels like the staff there genuinely care and have her best interests at heart. She's made lots of little friends,
is very well looked after and loves to go to nursery. We're really pleased as well with the updates provided by the app and on her development. Would heartily recommend Growing Up Green as a great nursery and a great place for children to attend.

Seeing my son so incredibly happy every day at Growing Up Green is why I love it so much. I think it’s the staff that make it. Their love and care for all the children is so obvious and they’ve even shared some good tips with me. I love how they refresh the activities and he gets so stuck in to the
messy play and different types of role play. Being a city based nursery the way they make the most of the rooms and garden is so creative. I really appreciate the time they took to help my son learn to walk when he was a bit slow getting going on this. It’s a brilliant nursery, I really highly recommend.

Adey Blackwell

Job Title: Nursery Owner Joined: 2005

I have been the co-owner of Growing Up Green Nurseries since we opened our first setting in 2005, following the birth of my first child.


I began my pathway into education and childcare when I started my teaching degree at the University of Brighton. After spending time travelling and teaching abroad, I returned to work in London as a primary school teacher, where I took on subject leadership in the Early Years with specialisms in Literacy and the Arts.


Moving back to Brighton in 2000 with a wealth of experience from working in a challenging inner-city school, I took on a senior management role within the largest first and middle school in Sussex, leading the Early Years team and lower school. I progressed to a deputy headteacher role and coordinated the SEND and Inclusion provision.


Stepping away from mainstream teaching and leadership to create an independent nursery environment at Growing Up Green has been an incredibly fulfilling endeavour. It enabled me to put my years of early years and management experience into something that I felt truly passionate about. This led to creating an enriching learning environment, developing a child-led curriculum, inspiring staff to look for awe and wonder and building a strong, nurturing community for our children, parents and staff.

I have been the co-owner of Growing Up Green Nurseries since we opened our doors in 2005.


Childcare has always been a central part of my life- I grew up living above a nursery owned by my family, which gave me a real love and understanding of Early Years from a very young age. That early experience stayed with me and shaped the path I have followed ever since.


After earning my Bachelor of Education (Bed Hons) from Nottingham Trent University, I went on to teach overseas for several years, broadening my perspective and deepening my understanding of different educational approaches.
On returning to the UK, I opened my first nursery in Cambridgeshire before relocating to Brighton in 2004 to start my family and pursue my vision of opening a nursery in the area.


Founding Growing Up Green has allowed me to combine my personal experience, professional training and passion for creating nurturing, enriching environments where children can truly thrive. It has been a real privilege to create a space where children feel safe, happy and inspired to learn every day.

I am the current Deputy Manager of Growing Up Green Nursery.


I have a range of experiences working with children in nurseries, schools and home settings. I am a qualified primary school teacher. During my experiences teaching, I specialised in the Early Years and worked in a nursery as a preschool teacher for 3.5 years. Through this, I found my love for the early years and pursued this passion by gaining my Master's degree in Early Years Education.


I am incredibly passionate about the early years, supporting children to grow and thrive in a nurturing and caring environment. I believe in a holistic and child-centred approach where all children’s needs are considered and valued.


I am the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) of the nursery, and I am experienced in supporting children with a wide range of special educational needs.
