The Old Station Nursery Faringdon is an exceptional nursery located in a listed, converted railway station. The nursery offers exceptional care, enriched by unique learning opportunities for your child. One such experience is child-friendly cooking classes, helping to equip children with valuable skills and deeper knowledge of the cooking process.

As the first nursery in The Old Station Nursery Group, the setting has become a flagship for excellent childcare in Faringdon since opening in 2002. It’s renowned for high-quality care, reflected in the qualified, passionate, and child-centred team, and is also proud to hold the Millie's Mark award, received for commitment to paediatric first aid.

The nursery has three dedicated rooms, each helping children grow into confident and unique individuals. Under 2’s begin their journey in the comfortable baby room, where they can explore and learn with a range of age-appropriate resources, including mirrors, musical instruments, and toys. As they gain confidence, they transition to one of the 2-3-year-old rooms, where they can continue to learn through heuristic play and natural resources. When children turn 3, they transition to the Pre-School room, where structured sessions prepare them for school transition.

The outdoor environment is an essential aspect of the nursery, with frequent trips to parks, libraries, and other local attractions. The nursery also has plenty of garden space, where children can run around and play together.

To enhance children's natural curiosity and promote key skills, knowledge, and attitudes, the nursery offers a 'Brighter Learning Approach.' This approach intertwines with the core curriculum provision, offering real opportunities for children's learning and development.

I couldn't imagine sending my children to any other nursery. There is so much care and attention given to each child, and regular updates so parents can have an insight into their child's day. They cater for planned activities specifically suited to the children's own interests. I have never had a moment
of doubt whether this was the best place for my child.

We looked at a number of nurseries for our daughter (2yrs old). We chose The Old Station Nursery for a number of reasons. The staff are amazing, updates on the app to let us know what our daughter has been up to, with updates on her development too. At every pickup, our daughters day is relayed to us
with things she enjoyed and food she had eaten (which is different every day). The staff are very bubbly and easy to talk to. Our daughter loves going here and waves at everyone as soon as we come through the gates, she always runs in to see her little friends and the staff always welcome her with such joy and love. I couldn't imagine her going to any other nursery. Thank you Old Station Nursery for helping our daughter grow.

What strikes me most about the nursery is the warmth and friendliness of the staff. They bring a very homely feel to the place that is also professional. They all demonstrate a strong awareness of the needs of my child and give examples each day of how they are progressing. It is a comfort to know they
are paying attention to my child.

The ladies of The Old Station Nursery are very welcoming and the standard of care speaks for itself. My kids absolutely adore the staff. The progress my eldest has made is remarkable and it's all down to the teaching standards. My youngest who is only 1 loves seeing the ladies first thing. And more
importantly, I can go to work and feel relaxed and comforted by the fact they are very well taken care off.

The staff are really friendly and engaging with the children. The kids often come home with new ideas and conversations that they have clearly picked up from a broad range of experiences. The freshly prepared foods seem to be a hit with kids. The secure online daily updates for parents with photos and
observations of what the children have been up to means you are always kept in the loop.

Highly recommended.

My little boy adores nursery and this is a testament to the fantastic staff who everyday care for him, stimulate him and nurture him.

Activities are fun, educational and varied. The children are encouraged to spend time outside and the nursery is always thinking of fun days (i.e. Pirate Day) and

trips out (i.e. Easter bonnet parade to the supermarket). Further to this, since being at The Old Station Nursery my little boy's language, counting and ABC's has come on leaps and bounds.
The staff always support our wishes and give us helpful advice when we have requested it.

The Old Station Nursery in Faringdon, is without a doubt, the best nursery that my girls have been in (they’ve been in 3). The ladies who run it and who work there, are an absolute credit to the nursery and to early years itself.

They have so much passion for their work and so much love for the children.

It’s the only nursery we’ve had the girls in where the manager actually knows every child on a personal level and it’s just lovely to see.

There are not enough words to say how grateful we are to all the staff here and I couldn’t recommend them enough.

I cannot express my overall thanks to the team at Old Station! My daughter has been there for 2 years and is just leaving to go up to 'big' school and I wish they had the facilities to do schools too as I would most definitely apply for my daughter to continue!

As she has a disability, the staff

have gone above and beyond to accommodate her, and she has made leaps and bounds in her progress. I would recommend this nursery with 100% of my heart! The staff, facilities, teaching and overall care is outstanding and I am so sad that we've had to move on, my daughter loves it and I knew when she was there she was in the best of hands.

I have been taking my children to Old Station (OSN) for 6 years, starting at 14 months old with my eldest who is now in the afterschool and holiday club. The care he receives is second to none, he loves going to the clubs and they always have activities for him during the holidays and after school.
My youngest has food allergy's and minor medical issues, he has been with OSN since 8 months old, starting in the babies room. The care and support from the staff has always been outstanding, going out of their way to ensure he was treated the same as the other children even with his minor ailments and allergies. He has recently moved to the toddler room where has is progressing 'leaps and bounds'.
Old Station Nursery support the whole family in the care they give to my children, they enable me to work full time and know that my children are in good hands, I cannot recommend them enough. They truly are outstanding.

Where do I start really? My eldest son has been in this nursery for just over a year and is just finishing his time in the baby room.
Staff: absolutely fantastic! They treat your children like family and the parents like good friends. The activities are fun, imaginative but also educational. The children
are introduced to fantastic varied food and encouraged to practise using their manners.
We love this nursery and can't recommend it enough!

The Old Station Nursery in Faringdon is an amazing nursery that takes good care of my children, which gives me peace of mind whilst I attend college/work. This nursery gives a home from home environment. My children have been there for nearly two years now and I hope they can stay until the maximum
age possible! The staff always like to have a friendly chat at drop off/collection time and when my son was ill the staff were very concerned and looked after him so well that I had to send an email full of praise! It is not your average nursery where the staff are just staff. The staff here build a positive relationship with the parents as well as the child. I have had to change my days of my children's attendance due to going from work to college and this nursery bent over backwards to accommodate this at such short notice! My son has done so many activities in one day that I can never believe how the staff manage this and they never look fed up or tired at the end of a long day.

The Old Station Nursery has now looked after my child (started a 9 months old) for over 2 months. They are very friendly and provide an excellent service. Their rules are clear and they provide exactly the service that they say they will. My son's development seems to have accelerated in his time
there and they appear to allocate a good staff to child ratio to ensure this. Overall I am very happy with the service they have provided.

I have two children under three years at the nursery. The first impression is that the site is very small and little outside space. However, there is continuous emphasis placed on taking full advantage of the space available and supplemented activities with trips away from the nursery. On my 'look see'
visit to the nursery in Jan 2015, the absolute reason for placing my child at this nursery was because of the overwhelming response of the children to the manager, a picture paints a thousand words. The children greeted her with the same response as they would a parent. I was sold! she continues to play an important part of the childrens nursery journey.

Our son (15 months old) joined the baby room in Jan '16 and he has flourished in confidence and ability since attending the nursery. He only attends two afternoons a week but the staff who look after him still know him very well, show great affection to him and interest in his development. My husband
and I feel very confident in the care the nursery offers and enjoy pick-up/drop-offs as the staff who look after our son are very welcoming, good-humoured and kind. The staff who don't work directly with my son still know his name and are very friendly and welcoming as are the admin staff and the manager, who is very approachable and warm. Old Station has a very happy, upbeat vibe and is a real gem, thank you very much.

This nursery is just brilliant. We moved to the area 6 months ago which my son found difficult being very comfortable in his previous nursery. The staff at The Old Station Nursery couldn't have been kinder and now my son loves going in but not coming home. They do baking, cooking, French, Cheeky
Monkeys, trips etc. They also allow the learning to be child lead which identifies some amazing skills. Parents are encouraged to contribute at every stage which is brilliant as you feel very involved. I wanted to share something that happened recently - my husband became poorly and every single member of staff in my sons room were just amazing - they worked with my son with books on going to hospital and a number of them offered so much of their time in the evenings and weekends I was just over-whelmed by their kindness and offers of help. These guys are really special. Would I recommend this nursery? Totally, in a heart beat! Thank you.

My son has been attending the nursery since he was 9 months old and he is now 4 and will be leaving for big school in September. The staff are world class and go out of their way to make sure my sons interests are followed and he is very happy. I get to see what he has been up to regularly with using
tapestry were I see all the activities he has been involved in. He has particularly grown in the last year and some of the things he tells me he has learnt is amazing. He will be very sad to leave the pre school at summer time but will be joining the breakfast and after school club which my son is really looking forward to. I would 100% recommend this nursery to everyone. It's not just a nursery which is open 8-6 it's like a family. The manager is wonderful and really knows my son well. Thank you for everything you have all done for my son.

The Old Station Nursery has proved to be an excellent pre school for our three year old as well as providing first class wrap around care for our 4 year old who has started in school. The staff are extremely caring, friendly and supportive to the children which has really helped to make the transition
to nursery a very smooth one.
The range of activities, events and trips that have been offered to the children in the last six months has been amazing. The Nursery also provide regular updates on how the children are doing with photos to accompany the comments, these are then emailed to parents and can be viewed on-line. This has proved to be really popular both for us as parents and also for our children to look at and tell us about their day.
I cannot speak highly enough of our experience with the Old Station Nursery and am delighted that we opted to use them as our child care provider. I would highly recommend the nursery to others and would urge you to visit to see for yourselves.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.496)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.496) out of 10 for The Old Station Nursery Faringdon is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.667 for The Old Station Nursery Faringdon is calculated as follows: ( (158 Excellents x 5) + (47 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 216 Ratings = 4.667
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.829 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Station Nursery Faringdon is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 94 number of registered child places is 18.8. 17 Positive Reviews ÷ 18.8 = 0.904
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
