This cottage-style nursery was graded by Ofsted as ‘Good in all areas’ in December 2021. Located near Bearsted on the edge of the North Downs; an area of outstanding natural beauty, Pennies Hockers Lane perfectly balances rural surroundings with the convenience of swift access to main routes, such as the M20.

The main features of Hockers Lane include catering for children from three months to five years and four separate rooms, arranged by age, for nursery age children.

The nursery ensure parents have an active involvement in decisions on care for their children. There is an extensive garden with Pennies Pit Stop, sensory snug, book nook large sandpit, play equipment and sheltered areas. While meals are prepared daily by a trained chef and made with fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers.

Pennies offers an annual social calendar of events for children and parents and has rooms that are designed specifically for babies, toddlers, and pre-school aged children.

Pennies fully-inclusive fees cover all food, drinks, nappies and formula milks for the babies and children in their care.

I think it has been amazing, the settling support my child and me, as his mum, have received.
All three of the ladies in toddler room really have been so understanding, done their utmost to reassure me and my child.
The ladies all are so warm and friendly, something that I can see is so natural
with all of them. They genuinely enjoy interacting with the children to help them develop. Having additional sessions supporting my post-natal anxiety gave me an opportunity to really observe that, it was so lovely to see.
They have shown such patience and are supportive, genuinely listening to what can help make that smooth transition happen, arranging toys/activities he likes to come into and what he doesn't like being aware of to avoid. Offering support and advice when needed. You can tell they genuinely care.
The additional home visit, care and hands-on approach with the management is amazing. A home from home with the comfort that the girls provide is lovely.
The environment is so open maintaining safety.

Our 7 month old baby girl started in Pennies a few weeks ago now and she loves it! The team in the baby room are the kindest souls, they listen to everything you say, are so attentive and maternal and loving to our little lady who is the youngest there and it makes it so much easier going back to work
full-time knowing your baby is in such amazing hands.
We are thrilled with Hockers Lane. Any recommendations or asks you have are really listened to. They keep you updated with pictures and videos and daily updates on how little one is doing which is just brilliant and so lovely for her Granny in Ireland to be able to hear about too.
Our baby loves Hockers Lane so much. All the ladies are the best! They treat the babies as their own and we are so glad we found this nursery having only moved to the area in Feb 2022. 5 stars from us! It's outstanding for a reason and the variety of what they get up to is just brilliant.

My little boy has quality time at this playschool. His skills and confidence have really developed since attending this playschool. Our eldest daughter joined Pennies in the middle of the pandemic which was a nerve-wracking time, however, the team at Pennies went above and beyond to ensure that she settled quickly and they kept us informed every step of the way. Our daughter absolutely loves going to nursery. She’s grown so much
in the time she’s been at nursery. It’s great to see the variety of activities they do with the children. The daily updates and photos have been great. The staff are friendly and extremely supportive. We couldn’t recommend Pennies highly enough.

Our eldest daughter has been at Pennies Day Nursery since 2019 and moved through all the rooms. She is now in her last year, our second is halfway through her time at Pennies. The staff have all built strong and positive relationships with the girls, they have supported both girls in developing some
lovely friendships. We’ve watched the girls grow in confidence, learn and most importantly have fun which is thanks to the nurturing environment and the care they are provided with.


One of the things that drew us to Pennies Day Nursery initially was the small, family feel it had and that continues to be a strength. The staff know all the children in the different rooms and it’s apparent that relationships are valued. It’s been a difficult few years with the pandemic and despite not being able to go into the nursery the staff have kept up communication home through the use of Tapestry. It's reassuring and lovely to see the photos of what they have been up to during the day!

My son has attend Pennies Day Nursery - Hockers Lane, Maidstone since he was nine months old and he is now in the preschool room! He has a superb time here and loves going in to see what is planned for the day! The staff are incredibly caring, thoughtful and put lots of hard work and effort into the
activities they plan. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they are great at staying in touch with updates and progress of the children. I shall be very sad when my son's time at Pennies Day Nursery - Hockers Lane, Maidstone comes to an end but know that he will have had an awesome time at nursery.

My daughter has been at Pennies Day Nursery since she was 13 months old and she’s now in her final few months before starting school in September. All the way through Pennies have been nothing but fantastic and my daughter's development has been out of this world. I couldn’t recommend Pennies enough.
I wouldn’t have wanted any more for my daughter and a massive thanks to all the nursery nurses who are all fantastic.

My son attends Pennies Day Nursery 3 days a week. He thoroughly enjoys himself and has made lots of friends. Great nursery, we have put two children through here and both have thrived. Brilliant staff and they seem to go for the extra length which is noticeable in many things but most noticeably in the meals the children are served which seem truly excellent.

We were delighted with how our daughter settled first into the butterflies room at Pennies Day Nursery - Hockers Lane, Madistone and now into the busy bees room. She has the best days there and the ladies look after her so well. We get lots of updates about her day, including photos and videos, which
is really lovely. She has made lots of friends there and discovered some new skills thanks to the encouraging and caring environment. The food provided is also excellent, she eats better at Pennies Day Nursery than she does at home! We are very glad that we made the decision to send our daughter to Pennies Day Nursery and would highly recommend them.

Wonderful day nursery. The staff team are friendly yet professional. They go above and beyond their duties. Covid-19 practices are well implemented and maintained by the management and staff team. Menus are nutritious and well thought out.

When it comes to looking for a nursery, if you're anything like I was, you search far and wide to try and make one thousand per cent sure that you are making the right choice. I was lucky enough to have a colleague sing the praises of Pennies Day Nursery - Hockers Lane, Maidstone and as soon as I visited,
I immediately knew why. There is not a single member of staff who isn't warm, friendly and it is such a lovely environment where they genuinely want your children to have the best time. My son started when he was nine months old and the two and a half year old he has blossomed into I give a huge amount of credit to Pennies Day Nursery. He now actively asks me to go to nursery to see his friends, doesn't look back as he skips off the drive when I drop him off and the things he has come home learning about never ceases to amaze me. I promise you, if you are worried about leaving your child in daycare, I feel your pain, I remember it well but goodness me is this the nursery to take the edge off for you!

I have worked for Pennies for nearly 18 years, I have worked alongside a great team and successfully progressed from being Head of Unit, Third in Charge, Deputy Manager at Newnham Court to Nursery Manager at Hockers Lane.


I love being apart of such a great team and I share my enthusiasm, with the teams, for arts and crafts, messy play and sensory exploration, promoting great learning opportunities for the children. My work family has extended and the team, children and parents, couldn't have made me feel more welcome.

Hi, my name is Kathryn and I joined Pennies in April 2024. I have worked in Early Years establishments for the past 23 years. Back at the beginning of my career, I gained an NNEB in childcare, working in various day nurseries and school settings, with children aged between 3 months to 5 years. More recently I have achieved a BA Hons (first class) degree in Early childhood studies and spent time teaching children in Preschool settings. Having the opportunity to be part of the Pennies family is wonderful and enables me to continue to fulfil my passion within the Early Years and continue to be part of children’s early childhood journey.

Hi, my name is Sarah-Lou and I started Pennies at Hockers Lane in 2001 as a Level 3 Practitioner. Before joining Pennies I worked for another family run company and during this time I completed a Level 2 and 3 NVQ in Childcare and Education. In 2005, when Newnham Court opened, I decided to take a new post there. During my time at Pennies I have gained experience working with children from 3 months old to 11 years old. I have also had 2 children of my own, Millie and Jake. In 2016 I took on a Development Coordinator role at Pennies which allowed me to work with all 3 nurseries and to support each setting with their CPD. I’ve now come back to Hockers Lane as Deputy manager.
