Queens Nursery and Pre School is an Ofsted Outstanding (February 2025) nursery in the heart of the Buckhurst Hill community. It is located on Queen's Road, just a five-minute walk from the Central Line Tube Station.

The nursery offers age-appropriate rooms and a large and small garden for children to explore. Each room is resourced with natural age-specific equipment to meet the children's developmental needs. The nursery follows the EYFS curriculum for the children to meet early learning goals before the transition to school.

Queens Nursery has excellent links with the local schools in the area. The teachers come in for stay and play sessions and take part in visits to schools for the children to ease their transition.

The nursery is also in the heart of the community and takes part in regular outings in the local area to local shops, restaurants, florist, doctors surgery, train station, pharmacy and dental surgery. Weekly forest school session is also undertaken by the forest trained team members.

There are daily extra-curricular activities for children to enjoy hosted by specialist teachers:

Monday - Yoga
Tuesday - Lingotots - French
Wednesday - Bongalong Music
Thursday - Phonics with Robot Reg
Friday - A Little Bit Dramatic- Drama

The nursery also welcomes regular visitors such as animal experiences, people that help the community such as fire fighters and guide dogs as well as parent partners who share with the children.

The online Famly learning app allows parents to track children's nursery life and development from the app and communicate directly with team members as well as uploading observations and photos from home.

Parents are actively involved in the nursery through constant communication and regular parent events.

I have nothing but good things to say about this nursery. It has offered my daughter a caring and engaging environment to grow in and she absolutely loves her days there. The staff in Grasshoppers go out of their way to include my daughter and keep us up to date with her development. The additional
classes and day trips out now that things have returned to some normality are a particular plus point.

Queens is an amazing nursery. Both my children have attended Queens and are now thriving. My youngest is starting school in September and we will be so sad to leave. The teachers are excellent support pillars, always smiling and encouraging the children and nothing is too much to ask. We have had an
amazing experience and I would not hesitate in recommending Queen's for your child.

Our daughter has thrived at Queen’s baby and then Queen’s Nursery. She’s always so happy to go in and she gets so much out of her time there. The staff are incredible and go the extra mile to ensure the children are happy which increases their confidence and in turn increases their engagement in the
activities organised for them each day. The variety of specialist classes and the nutritious/diverse meals provided are also fantastic.

My son has been attending the Queens group since baby nursery and had a wonderful experience throughout. The team are fantastic in each room and my son has come on leaps and bounds in the time he has spent there, so far. Great activities, both fun and educational, would highly recommend.

Always very impressed with the amount the children do and the number of updates received. The various external activities are also very good and varied. Also very impressed in the manner they have continued to operate throughout the pandemic and adjust accordingly as and when needed.

My daughter has been with Queens Pre School since she was 2.5 years and was with Queens Baby Nursery for 18 months before that. As a working mum, I cannot fault Queens for the way they have cared for my daughter in my absence. The ladies that work at the nursery form such special bonds with the children
and make them feel safe and loved. There are always lots of exciting activities planned, trips out and a great food menu with the older children being allowed to help make bread and smoothies. I could not recommend Queens highly enough and I will really miss everyone when we start school. They have given my daughter an excellent foundation for school and learning and I am very grateful.

My daughter never wants to come home she loves Queens Nursery so much. The resources, the out and indoor activities, specialist teacher (and animal) visits, the food and, above all, the dedicated staff who understand my child's individual personality and needs are second to none and make this nursery
a great place for any child. Highly recommended!

My daughter has been at Queens baby nursery and now in preschool nursery and she is loving it there. The staff are enthusiastic and patient. Activities for kids are carefully chosen and every day there is something new to play with. The external teachers are great too. The menu is reviewed often and
seems healthy. We have had a great experience at Queens.

My daughter (age 3.5) joined Queens Nursery in January 2021. My daughter absolutely loves it there. She has never been so happy to go to a childcare setting (she has been at two previous settings). She has made friends easily and she absolutely loves her teachers. She is in the butterflies room and
her key-worker, with whom she has a fantastic bond. All the girls in the butterflies room are fantastic, my daughter loves them all. They do so many fun and interactive things with the kids - from going to the forest, bringing animals into the setting (bunny rabbits and baby chicks) and doing extra-curricular classes like French and yoga - every day is fun-filled. My daughter has progressed so much since joining Queens in terms of her speech, becoming fully potty trained (after 9 months of difficulty) and just generally her independence and social skills. I would highly recommend Queens Nursery - they really are excellent at what they do.

Both our sons have attended Queens Nursery and Queens Baby Nursery. Our youngest is currently at the nursery and has developed some lovely relationships with the other children and the staff. They carry out lots of activities both inside the nursery and outside, forest walks are a firm favourite as
is the life cycle work that they have been doing. They have a good range of specialist teachers and are working hard to make the children more independent and ready for starting school.

The team are wonderful and really care about the children. Activities are always very well organised and relevant to the curriculum but most importantly fun and engaging. The nursery have regular woodland visits, animal and lifecycle experiences (chicks, rabbits, pets, plants, caterpillars) and external
teachers on a daily basis providing a broad and exciting extension to the curriculum. Parents are always consulted before any proposed changes to the routine/menu etc. are decided on. Great daily app updates to keep parents informed of child’s progress. Fantastic CO2 detectors and air purifiers installed to help safeguard children and staff against Covid-19. Robust Covid-19 policies are also in place and followed. Team and management are honest, transparent and collaborative. They really care for the children and my daughter absolutely loves her key person who has helped her to grow in confidence and join in more with her peers. Can’t recommend the preschool enough!

Our daughter joined Queens baby nursery when she was one year old. She is now heading towards primary school in September. During this time I have nothing but praise for Queens nurseries at Buckhurst Hill. The staff are fantastic and professional. Communication is excellent, frequent and supportive.
Our daughter has been happy to go to nursery every day once she was settled. These difficult few weeks were handled with sensitivity and with such professionalism that it reduced our anxieties and worry. Covid was difficult but the nursery has done so much to keep the children and staff safe. Again, communication has been excellent. We are so pleased that our daughter's first steps away from home have been with Queens nurseries.

My daughter has been attending nursery for nearly 2 years now. She is settled and happy and that's because of the wonderful caring staff, providing a safe and nurturing environment. I've found that all staff are warm and friendly and encourage the children. I feel able to go to work knowing that my
daughter is safe, happy and well cared for.
I particularly like that the children are visiting the forest on a regular basis and they have different extra activities every day. I felt it is important to let you all know what a fantastic job you're doing.

My son started at Queens nursery last year in the height of Covid when we had just moved from London and after a long period of lockdown. We can honestly say that Queens nursery has been life-changing for him and for us. The kindness, care and energy the staff have shown towards our son has given him
greater confidence, has helped him to overcome fears, allowed him to build relationships with other children and staff which he really needed. He has learnt new skills, the staff have really listened to us in terms of his specific needs and his practical skills have come on leaps and bounds. He has made friends and the nursery has a real community spirit, which has been brilliant for our son and for us as parents in a new area. The projects and classes are great and the nursery has done wonders in preparing our son for starting school which he will now do with ease I am sure of in September. I would definitely recommend Queens nursery as a great stepping stone and preparation for school

We have two children at Queen's nursery, both of whom went to Baby nursery too. We have had a great experience at Queen's and our children enjoy being there. Every day they do such fun and interesting things, all of which help the children develop. The external teachers and outings ensure variety too.
And the staff are wonderful. They seem to really care and know the children's individual needs. They always go over and above, especially during the pandemic. The menu is healthy and varied. And the space, although seeming small, is plenty for the needs of the children. I would highly recommend Queen's nursery.

My 3 year old is currently in this nursery and my older son has also been here. The staff are caring, vigilant and thoughtful and ensure the best care and development of the children. Feedback and interaction with parents is great. The nursery took special precautions to ensure infection control during
lockdown and kept the nursery running during difficult times, which was a huge support. Both my children have been happy here and bloomed. I would most certainly recommend this nursery that nurtures happy, healthy children.

Both my children attend Queens Nursery and have both been attending since they were a year old. I have know the staff and management at Queens Nursery now for over four years and have never had a negative experience or have anything slightly negative to report. The key workers are kind, caring and so
interested in the individual needs of each child. Making bonding and personality knowledge a priority in ensuring children thrive and are happy at the nursery. My son is September born and has always been advanced for his age, seeking adult attention over that of his peers. At Queens Nursery they have gone above and beyond to develop his skills to a primary school level, pushing him to achieve his potential, whilst also making strong efforts to aid his engagement with his peers, setting up group activities and ICT based games. I cannot fault their dedication to making preschool a happy, fun and enjoyable place to be. I would recommend to any parent wanting to send their child to nursery.

My son attends Queens Nursery and has a wonderful time. He has made lovely friends there and the staff are amazing and caring, they really take the time to get to know your child and also they send lots of pictures and video to parents so you can see what your child has been doing. My son has learnt
so much in his time there and I know he will be ready for school when the time comes - thank you Queens Nursery! When my daughter is old enough I will definitely be sending her too!

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.253)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.253) out of 10 for Queens Nursery & Pre School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for Queens Nursery & Pre School is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.336 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Queens Nursery & Pre School is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 number of registered child places is 11. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.636
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
