Queens Nursery and Pre School is an Ofsted Outstanding (February 2025) nursery in the heart of the Buckhurst Hill community. It is located on Queen's Road, just a five-minute walk from the Central Line Tube Station.

The nursery offers age-appropriate rooms and a large and small garden for children to explore. Each room is resourced with natural age-specific equipment to meet the children's developmental needs. The nursery follows the EYFS curriculum for the children to meet early learning goals before the transition to school.

Queens Nursery has excellent links with the local schools in the area. The teachers come in for stay and play sessions and take part in visits to schools for the children to ease their transition.

The nursery is also in the heart of the community and takes part in regular outings in the local area to local shops, restaurants, florist, doctors surgery, train station, pharmacy and dental surgery. Weekly forest school session is also undertaken by the forest trained team members.

There are daily extra-curricular activities for children to enjoy hosted by specialist teachers:

Monday - Yoga
Tuesday - Lingotots - French
Wednesday - Bongalong Music
Thursday - Phonics with Robot Reg
Friday - A Little Bit Dramatic- Drama

The nursery also welcomes regular visitors such as animal experiences, people that help the community such as fire fighters and guide dogs as well as parent partners who share with the children.

The online Famly learning app allows parents to track children's nursery life and development from the app and communicate directly with team members as well as uploading observations and photos from home.

Parents are actively involved in the nursery through constant communication and regular parent events.

Both my sons (one now aged 6 and the other nearly aged 4), have attended Queens Nursery and we've been very pleased with the care they have received over the years. Queens Nursery have always gone above and beyond in organising trips to the forest and within the local area, sending home activities to
do and books to read. I love that over the years they have daily specialist teachers in music, yoga, baby ballet, phonics etc. attending the nursery. Every day the activities are really well planned and well thought through, with a view to developing the children through play. I have always felt like I've been kept well informed about what is happening at nursery and the teachers are also very nurturing.

All of the staff are very friendly and approachable. We had asked our child’s key worker to help her start to write the alphabet and they immediately started working with her to do so, which was such a pleasure to see. The staff organise for the children to do many educational and fun activities, including
visits to the woods and surrounding shops, which our daughter loves. She also loves the yoga and Bongalong classes, where songs/ nursery rhymes are taught. I would highly recommend this nursery.

My son has attended this nursery for two years. First the baby nursery and now the toddler nursery, just up the road. I’ll be honest, I primarily chose this nursery for its location as I don’t drive. I thought the premises and activities were good, but I didn’t have anything to compare to as this was
my first bub. I have and continued to be blown away by the attention to detail and care that the staff provide. The activities that the kids do are insane and I love the updates on the app as well as the weekly email updates from the manager, with pics and descriptions of what everyone’s been up to and what is coming up. I really don’t think they could do any more. There doesn’t seem to be a high staff turnover and my boy is happy there, with the staff and other children who he has grown up with, the last couple of years. They are receptive to feedback and have been understanding with recent difficulties we’ve had with our childcare account. Thank you all so much.

The staff are very friendly and caring. Our son is very happy to go in every morning. It feels that he always has a good day at nursery. They provide children with so many activities, not only at the nursery itself but also to take home. Thank you to all of you.

We absolutely love Queens Nursery. Both my kids have attended here and we have never had an issue at all. All the staff are very well trained and are amazing with the kids. I have never left my kids here and worried about them at all. We are so grateful for all the staff and everything that they do.

My daughter absolutely loves going to this nursery. She has been at the pre school since 2020 and has built a lovely relationship with the staff and her peers. I am always impressed by the effort made to take the children on exciting outings and trips to the forest. The staff at the nursery are lovely
and kind and I couldn’t ask for anything better.

My daughter has been at Queens Nursery now for nearly 2-years since transitioning from the baby nursery and always comes out happy and looking forward to going in next! She enjoys the specialist teacher sessions such as yoga, in particular, and the outdoor trips they go on as well. She has gained such
confidence and independence since being there as staff fully supports you in all the key milestones as well. I have always felt happy and safe leaving my daughter in their care as all staff are so friendly and develop key relationships with the children to understand each child as an individual as all their needs are different.

My daughter loves Queens Nursery, she has lots of friends there and enjoys the activities. I really appreciated the effort that the nursery puts into organising different types of trips and activities for children and also their effort to involve parents. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They
are also great at teaching and preparing children for school. My daughter can now write her name and she is very good at counting. They also talk about different topics like space, recycling and the environment. I like the nursery initiative to show the local community to children as well. The only drawback of this nursery is the fees, which steadily go up every year by a substantial amount.

Our son has been at Queens Nursery for around 9-months now. We continue to be incredibly impressed and feel so lucky that he is somewhere that genuinely cares about him and his development. He absolutely loves it. Not only is the nursery incredibly creative and thoughtful when it comes to the activities
they do, but I am also envious of his day as it seems so fun. The team are so lovely, patient, welcoming and caring. The take-home activities are well thought out too, and the nursery itself just has a lovely feel to it. It's a very well-rounded pre-school experience and we are so grateful to them all. He calls his key worker his best friend, which says it all. Thank you for everything you do!

The most fantastic nursery with a wonderful team! The team are so attentive and creative and my daughter absolutely loves going in. The team also make a huge effort to keep parents updated and involved in nursery activities, which is so lovely. I feel like the experiences at nursery are imaginative
and engaging, as well as having incredible people to come into the nursery too to update on whether it be their jobs or real-life experiences. I feel like the team goes above and beyond to make it educational but fun for the children and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough!

Throughout the month of March, my daughter had a few ups and downs with her health and as she has a pre-existing health condition we’re always quite wary when she gets unwell in any way. Queens Nursery is always so attentive and vigilant if they notice even the littlest thing, and has notified me as
a courtesy to let me know. In particular, since my daughter has been with them, her key workers have all been amazing and formed really strong relationships with her, and she is so comfortable being around all three of them. Since joining around a year ago she has come on in leaps and bounds with her speech, writing and general manners and behaviour, and I couldn’t thank the nursery more for their part in that! Overall, a massive thank you to all the staff there, and it’ll be a sad day when we have to move on!

All of the staff members are happy, friendly and hardworking. I feel so confident in all of the staff there and that

Over the years that my son attended Queens nursery, he developed into a thriving, confident and intelligent boy. The staff genuinely care about the children and are always thinking of how to make their days full and fun. What they lack in outdoor space they make up for in terms of the schedule of activities
and outside walks etc. The children have strong bonds with their caretakers and with each other. It has been a very happy experience to attend Queens and has set my son up wonderfully for school.

All of my kids have attended Queens, and I honestly will be sad when the last one graduates this year. Queens has become a part of our family, and the team are excellent! They made the Coronavirus period easy and seamless for the children, always adhering to guidelines and supporting the children with
handwashing. All of my kids left for school with a core group of friends that they met at Queens. They are eager and ready for the transition to school thanks to the brilliant work of the team.

We feel so fortunate to have gotten a spot in this nursery. We entrust them to take care of our daughter without a single worry. The environment and activities are very stimulating and varied, ranging from den building or painting in the forest, to science experiments, to observing the lifecycle of
a banana and a butterfly. Our daughter is looking forward to going to nursery every day and at home, she talks about her day with great enthusiasm.

Both my children have attended Queens Nursery from the ages of about 18 months right through to school, my youngest starts in September. They have both loved their time at Queens Nursery and I have been very happy with the standard of care and education the setting provides. My children formed great
bonds with their key workers and the other members of staff in their rooms, and they made good friendships that carried through into primary school. I’ve also been impressed by the specialist teachers, the focus on a healthy lifestyle, the local trips and the animal experiences offered, which I feel are well worth the fees when I see the benefits to the children.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.253)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.253) out of 10 for Queens Nursery & Pre School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for Queens Nursery & Pre School is calculated as follows: ( (77 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.336 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Queens Nursery & Pre School is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 number of registered child places is 11. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.636
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
