Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust owns and operates three nurseries in Berkshire which are open to everyone; parents do not need to work for the Trust in order for their children to attend.

Little Dragons opened in 2003 in a purpose-built single story building on the Bath Road in Reading. The nursery accepts 64 children aged from three months to five years and is conveniently located within 1.8 miles of the town centre.

Children are cared for by experienced and highly qualified staff who offer an interesting, educational environment full of experiences which allow the children to explore and grow.

Each nursery has stimulating outdoor play areas and children are encouraged to spend time outside developing their gross motor skills and having fun with their friends. Inside you will find warm, cosy environments which are perfect for children to take part in numerous creative and entertaining activities.

The nursery offers the 30 hours funding and is registered to accept Tax Free Childcare payments.

Funding & Fees

  • The nursery is open to all families who wish to use the service.


    We have 3 options for attendance.


    •   Option 1 Combination of free* and paid hours for the 15 and 30 hours funding stretched over 51 weeks = 11 or 22 hours free per week with all other hours charged for, based on a 10-hour day. Minimum attendance of two days per week. A month’s deposit is required, and fees are charged monthly in arrears.


    •   Option 2 All hours are paid where children are not eligible to receive funding, based on a 10-hour day. Minimum attendance of two days per week. A month’s deposit is required, and fees are charged monthly in arrears.


    •   Option 3 Free hours only* for the 15 and 30 hours funding = 11 or 22 hours free per week for 51 weeks per year with no charge made for this attendance and no deposit payable.


    •   *For options 1 & 3, the times of the free hours are as specified below ONLY
    •   15 hours = 11 hours. 5.5 hours free on days one and two between the hours of 9.30am-3.00pm.
    •   30 hours = 22 hours. 7.5 hours free on days one and two between the hours of 9.00am-4.30pm and 7 hours free on day three between the hours of 9.00am-4.00pm.


    All attendance is over the 51 weeks that we are open. We do not offer term-time only places.


    There is a 9.5% discount for full time attendance of 5 days per week. A 9.5% sibling discount is offered against the eldest child's fees.

My child has been extremely happy at Little Dragons. The staff are so caring and take real time to get to know each child. They always go above and beyond to help both parent and child. Activities are well planned and varied, supporting child development. My son has grown in confidence since attending.

Little Dragons is amazing at putting parents at ease and has great managers. My son loved going and loved the pre-school blue room. The staff were great at settling him in and looking after him. I recommend this nursery to all parents. It has a lovely new outdoor garden too.

My son joined Little Dragons Nursery in May 2017 and goes one day a week. Since joining his speech and social skills have improved immensely, and he always has such a lovely day!
The staff are friendly, approachable and professional.
My son had only been looked after by family, and we were apprehensive
about how he would settle in but he has settled in so well.

We are really pleased with Little Dragons, the service is excellent and represents value for money. Our little boy has been at Little Dragons for around six months now and he seems to love it. Really happy with the service from Little Dragons Nursery. My daughter has been going there since May and whenever I pick her up, she always seems to be playing either happily on her own or cuddled in the lap of one of the carers. My daughter settled very quickly and within a month she was happy to
go to the nursery. The daily report I get, helps me know what she's been up to, how much she ate and when she slept, which helps me plan for the evening as I know if I've got a tired or hungry toddler to deal with. All the staff are so lovely and I have absolute confidence leaving my daughter there. She is definitely becoming more confident and sociable. I would recommend this nursery to everyone who wants their child's development to come first.

Little Dragons is wonderful. The nursery staff are kind, caring and very creative. My daughter has progressed through all of the different age groups and loves going.


Food is cooked onsite and she regularly has second helpings! There's plenty of fresh fruit etc. for snacks. I get a full rundown

of her day, every day. Couldn't wish for a better nursery.

What a great place to be comfortable to leave my child for the day. Great smiles and always welcoming. The staff and managers are very friendly and engaging, really value each child and interested in them. I'm really pleased with Little Dragons and my son really enjoys it. The staff are all really friendly and reassured me through every stage of getting him settled in. I was impressed at how they remember everything you tell them. I've never felt rushed or pushed away or like I was being a pain when calling

My daughter has been at Little Dragons for 16 months and she has thrived there. She learns new words daily and her vocabulary amazes me sometimes! The outdoor garden is fabulous- it's a safe environment with tons of space for the kids to run around in. The family events that are held there regularly

We are very pleased with the Little Dragons Nursery. Our daughter loves going there (Full Time) and always comes back very happy. The nursery's staff are very friendly and helpful. I couldn't be happier with the level of care provided - there are plenty of stimulating activities, lots of creative play,
good and nutritious food, the nursery has a good size garden with slides, bikes etc. The staff are very helpful in supporting children's development and in helping to achieve milestones. They know children very well and at the end of the day always provide a very detailed handover to parents. They maintain children's folders very up to date with a lot of photos and artwork. The staff makes sure kids get exposure to a variety of experiences - to mention just a couple - farm animal visits to the nursery: e.g chickens, bunnies...etc. The fire brigade visit which included photos taken in the fire engine. Our daughter joined nursery at 1.5 years and now is almost 3, would highly recommend to other parents!
