Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust owns and operates three nurseries in Berkshire which are open to everyone; parents do not need to work for the Trust in order for their children to attend.

Little Dragons opened in 2003 in a purpose-built single story building on the Bath Road in Reading. The nursery accepts 64 children aged from three months to five years and is conveniently located within 1.8 miles of the town centre.

Children are cared for by experienced and highly qualified staff who offer an interesting, educational environment full of experiences which allow the children to explore and grow.

Each nursery has stimulating outdoor play areas and children are encouraged to spend time outside developing their gross motor skills and having fun with their friends. Inside you will find warm, cosy environments which are perfect for children to take part in numerous creative and entertaining activities.

The nursery offers the 30 hours funding and is registered to accept Tax Free Childcare payments.

Funding & Fees

  • The nursery is open to all families who wish to use the service.


    We have 3 options for attendance.


    •   Option 1 Combination of free* and paid hours for the 15 and 30 hours funding stretched over 51 weeks = 11 or 22 hours free per week with all other hours charged for, based on a 10-hour day. Minimum attendance of two days per week. A month’s deposit is required, and fees are charged monthly in arrears.


    •   Option 2 All hours are paid where children are not eligible to receive funding, based on a 10-hour day. Minimum attendance of two days per week. A month’s deposit is required, and fees are charged monthly in arrears.


    •   Option 3 Free hours only* for the 15 and 30 hours funding = 11 or 22 hours free per week for 51 weeks per year with no charge made for this attendance and no deposit payable.


    •   *For options 1 & 3, the times of the free hours are as specified below ONLY
    •   15 hours = 11 hours. 5.5 hours free on days one and two between the hours of 9.30am-3.00pm.
    •   30 hours = 22 hours. 7.5 hours free on days one and two between the hours of 9.00am-4.30pm and 7 hours free on day three between the hours of 9.00am-4.00pm.


    All attendance is over the 51 weeks that we are open. We do not offer term-time only places.


    There is a 9.5% discount for full time attendance of 5 days per week. A 9.5% sibling discount is offered against the eldest child's fees.

Both my daughters have attended Little Dragons, both have loved their experience there.
The team, are brilliant, many having been there for years - which offers continuity and stability. All through Covid they worked their socks off to stay open and take care of key worker children.
The three rooms
offer a stimulating environment for little ones to learn at their own pace. The blue room for older children prepares them well for school, giving them the skills and confidence needed to thrive.
The children benefit from caring for classroom pets, outings and learning about different cultures and form lasting bonds with their key workers. The nursery benefits from having an onsite kitchen and cook, who ensure the children are offered varied healthy meals - alongside handmade tasty treats for pudding.
Every child is celebrated for their individuality.

My little boy went to this nursery from 7 months to the day he left at age 4
He had the best time and learned so much from the staff at Little Dragons.
He used to look forward to going and I did too because the staff are amazing.
They keep you so informed on the child's progress and things that
can help you with it at home.
You can ask them for advice and they will always support you and help. An amazing place to send your child.
I could not recommend this nursery enough.

Great facilitators in allowing a conducive environment for first time mothers. Activities are varied and educational. Food is healthy and varied. The team leader for the two to three year-olds has a wealth of experience and has really made my son and myself feel welcomed and informed.

We are so happy that we picked Little Dragons Nursery for our daughter. The room always looks bright and welcoming and they take the children into the garden to play whenever possible. I feel confident dropping her off each morning knowing that she is well cared for. It feels like all of the staff know
and care for our daughter, not just her key worker. The staff always take the time to give us a thorough handover at the end of the day and answer any questions that we have.

The team at Little Dragons Nursery are fantastic! Our eldest moved into the nursery from another and our youngest was a new starter, they have both settled in so quickly and are so excited to go every day.
They are both so full of beans at the end of the day talking about all the stuff they have been
up to through the day.
The staff are great at handover and pick-up, very welcoming and you get a real sense they pay attention to each child's day very well in the feedback of the day.

We recently moved here from another country and I was very scared for our son to start nursery here. A new environment and a new language, I was so very nervous. I didn't need to be - my son has adjusted in such a short time and it absolutely has to do with the amazing staff at Little Dragons Nursery.
He loves going to nursery and always tells me what a great time he's had playing with his friends. I am thrilled that we were able to secure space for him at Little Dragons Nursery, I don't think he would've adjusted as well as he has at another nursery. Amazing staff, amazing management, just an amazing nursery overall. Your child will be well looked after and nurtured here. I cannot recommend them enough.

Our daughter has been attending Little Dragons since January, and she is thriving there. We could not be happier with the nursery staff and the care they provide for her. She loves coming to nursery each morning and has built up wonderful relationships with the adults in her room, especially her key
staff, who she's thrilled to see each day.
The end-of-day catch-ups are so reassuring as staff highlight things she's been doing or they've noticed and to see their knowledge of her and genuine interest in her progression and wellbeing is all that we could ask. She is learning so much from her time in the nursery, her vocabulary and skills are developing through the wide range of activities she engages with, and there is a clear focus on embedding learning seamlessly through play.
Our daughter has additional health needs, and the nursery has been fantastic in their provision for those, going above and beyond to ensure she is safely cared for.
We can't recommend them highly enough!

My daughter attended Little dragons for fifteen months and in those fifteen months grew to such a happy little individual. She started in the Green Room and recently did a few months in the Red Room before we moved. Both of which she loved and was always so excited to attend. The staff are fantastic
and my daughter still says their names with excitement when we say we are going to nursery. I talk about little dragons and how great they are at every opportunity I get and would highly recommend them to any parent sending their child/children to nursery.

Both my children attended the Green Room and then a short spell in the Red Room.
Both boys absolutely loved/love the nursery and thrive in the environment provided.
All staff are so attentive and caring to the children and help with their developmental needs.
There are lots of toys, colour and
garden within the nursery which my children loved and have often quoted “I love nursery”.
I would highly recommend this nursery and the only reason why my children aren’t continuing through the years is due to a move.

My child has been a Little Dragons since he was a non-walking, non-talking baby. Over time with support from Little Dragons staff he has developed physical, mental and cognitive skills in an extremely positive and happy environment.


He has made friends and has learnt about nursery boundaries and

routines. The nursery staff have always been very focused on the children’s welfare and have given 100% attention to the children.


During covid19 the nursery put all measures in place to minimise risk and keep as many children in nursery as possible.


I would highly recommend the nursery to any parent looking to send their child to nursery.

I can honestly say I don't know what I would do without the amazing team at Little Dragons.
Just knowing my son is happy and safe is one of the most important things when trying to manage a full-time job and being a single parent.
My child has been with Little Dragons from 1 and he's now 4 with not
long till he starts school!
With Little Dragons' amazing support he has developed essential skills I would struggle to teach.

My little boy has been attending Little Dragons Nursery since February 2020. We have never had any issues only positive experiences. It's been lovely to see his learning and development grow so much since his time at Little Dragons Nursery. All the staff are so kind and my little boy has built great

I must say that my child has always been very happy to go to the nursery. This is an indication that he has been cared for properly. He also has a very good rapport with his key teacher and others at the nursery. I have seen a lot of positive development in my child. I am so delighted that my child
