Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust owns and operates three nurseries in Berkshire which are open to everyone; parents do not need to work for the Trust in order for their children to attend.

Little Dragons opened in 2003 in a purpose-built single story building on the Bath Road in Reading. The nursery accepts 64 children aged from three months to five years and is conveniently located within 1.8 miles of the town centre.

Children are cared for by experienced and highly qualified staff who offer an interesting, educational environment full of experiences which allow the children to explore and grow.

Each nursery has stimulating outdoor play areas and children are encouraged to spend time outside developing their gross motor skills and having fun with their friends. Inside you will find warm, cosy environments which are perfect for children to take part in numerous creative and entertaining activities.

The nursery offers the 30 hours funding and is registered to accept Tax Free Childcare payments.

Funding & Fees

  • The nursery is open to all families who wish to use the service.


    We have 3 options for attendance.


    •   Option 1 Combination of free* and paid hours for the 15 and 30 hours funding stretched over 51 weeks = 11 or 22 hours free per week with all other hours charged for, based on a 10-hour day. Minimum attendance of two days per week. A month’s deposit is required, and fees are charged monthly in arrears.


    •   Option 2 All hours are paid where children are not eligible to receive funding, based on a 10-hour day. Minimum attendance of two days per week. A month’s deposit is required, and fees are charged monthly in arrears.


    •   Option 3 Free hours only* for the 15 and 30 hours funding = 11 or 22 hours free per week for 51 weeks per year with no charge made for this attendance and no deposit payable.


    •   *For options 1 & 3, the times of the free hours are as specified below ONLY
    •   15 hours = 11 hours. 5.5 hours free on days one and two between the hours of 9.30am-3.00pm.
    •   30 hours = 22 hours. 7.5 hours free on days one and two between the hours of 9.00am-4.30pm and 7 hours free on day three between the hours of 9.00am-4.00pm.


    All attendance is over the 51 weeks that we are open. We do not offer term-time only places.


    There is a 9.5% discount for full time attendance of 5 days per week. A 9.5% sibling discount is offered against the eldest child's fees.

Little Dragons Nursery is a very nurturing and caring environment for all the children that go there. Both my children love it there and I can't recommend it enough. The staff all truly care for all the children and go above and beyond to ensure they have a good experience whilst they are at nursery.

My son loves going to the nursery. The staff are very warm and friendly. There is a wide range of activities each day and I can see that the staff are very talented and creative. I am amazed by the crafts they make with our little treasures. When I leave my son I know he is in a good hands.

All four of our children have attended Little Dragons Nursery over the years and all of them have been happy there. Our younger two are currently attending with our four year old in blue room and two year old in red room. We have been so impressed with the staff over the time we have sent our children
here. They have demonstrated that they know our kids by talking about them in ways we could identify well with. The staff are friendly, approachable and turnover of staff seems low. The blue room leader has been the key worker for three of our kids to date! Really happy with how our kids have developed and are developing here in preparation for school.

We have had three children at Little Dragons Nursery and they have all thrived there. The staff are what makes it such a special nursery. They all have genuinely cared about our children much more than just the job of looking after them. I have never felt bad about putting our children into nursery
three days a week because I know they love it and have a great time, it feels like a family. There is lots of time outside which is good and healthy meals are provided. The parents are kept well informed of what the children are doing. The work the staff have put in to keep the nursery open during the Covid-19 pandemic has been very impressive and we are very thankful.

My child loves Little Dragons Nursery. All the staff are very informative, they spend time with the parents even in Covid-19 times when so many things changed, they were always willing to answer calls of concern or emails regarding more information for parents. The nursery manager is very friendly and
prompt in replying to emails or concerns you may have and takes on board any suggestions parents have made, this reassures parents. They assist with transitions for children and are supportive to parents for example, classroom changes and potty training. The kids have a big playground outside and are always involved in activities and learning new things for example, gardening and learning about different cultural holidays. I look forward to receiving my child's portfolio of progress and all her amazing art work that we are given usually at holidays. Overall my partner and I would highly recommend Little Dragons Nursery.

My two children have both been very happy at Little Dragons Nursery. The outside space is big and really lovely, lots of free flow options, mud kitchen and water play as well as a super playground with lots of outdoor toys. Inside it is as beautiful as some nurseries but the staff are very experienced
and caring. There is some turnover of staff but the majority have been there a long time and that provides great stability and expertise for the children. They are really the main assets and reason why we chose this nursery. The food offered is well balanced and healthy. My children have developed well and been very happy under Little Dragons Nursery care. The staff are responsive to the children and often adapt their learning to fit with the children’s ideas or recent experiences. They have animals for the children to care for and chicks in spring time. Pre Covid-19 there were optional paid for dance classes and visits from zoo and play companies. Management is professional and always run to government and NHS guidelines.

My child has developed massively since being at nursery and this is in no small part to the care and attention that she receives from the staff at Little Dragons.
My child is able to participate in many activities and the volume of craft things to bring home is testament to this.
Staff are always

This nursery has been absolutely amazing with both our children. We firstly fell in love with the feel of the place but it is the staff and their commitment is what takes it above and beyond. During the last year, they have all been amazing. The support they are giving the children is great and the
learning has never faulted. My child loves going to ‘school’ as we call it and seeing their friends which they name some children but mostly staff. Food is great my child eat well each day and has more when they need it. During the lockdowns, they have been great and as a key worker, they looked after my child as though nothing was happening. They made my child feel at ease and comfortable with current situations. The staff are great. We hope more people choose this nursery as they are amazing. We love little Dragons

My daughter attends Little Dragons nursery 3 days a week. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They give positive feedback every evening when am picking my daughter.
The teachers are very polite, pleasant and very supportive to the children, in particular, they were able to identify that my
daughter had a problem and they were able to advise me and recommended to contact the right team for help.

The nursery staff have created such a great environment for little people! My little girl loves going to nursery every morning and does not even say 'bye-bye, mummy!', because she is just so busy to rush in. She has learnt so much from nursery, so early in her life! It's truly amazing to see how caring
and passionate all the staff are! I would not send my girl anywhere else and I'd highly recommend Little Dragons to anyone!

I trust them completely - it is a very safe, fun, positive and kind environment, with trained and skilled carers. They are very thoughtful and the management is very approachable, professional, down-to-earth and flexible. They take feedback very seriously and do whatever they can to accommodate each
family situation and personal needs of every child. We had a difficult time with our son when he simply wanted to stay with Mummy more and the ladies in his room were extremely careful, kind and loving towards him (cuddling him and keeping him close). I am confident they are offering them all the appropriate experiences and they have a good, balanced schedule, encouraging them but also being very careful with manners (politeness and table manners). In the current situation, they have been really communicative and open, requesting feedback and keeping everyone informed. I would recommend them to anyone. Thank you for all your hard work and keeping everyone safe.

My daughter attended Little Dragons from 2009 until starting school in 2013 so when it came time to find a nursery for our son there was no question as to where we would send him. The staff at Little Dragons are amazing with the children and always greet you at the door with a smile. They have been
brilliant during this last year. With everything going on they have always remained positive and reassuring, especially with the children.

Both of my children have been to this nursery since they were about 9 months old. With my first, I was very wary about putting him into childcare, but within a week of being there I was more than happy for him to be there, and I had absolutely no issues when putting my daughter into the nursery as well.
They were both well looked after and well-loved. The staff are wonderful and so caring and I really couldn't ask for more! I'm just upset that I don't have another child to put into the nursery when my youngest leaves!

Overall one of the best nurseries. My son started back in 2018 this was his second nursery. The previous nursery was shut down and my experience was not good. I was recommended Little Dragons by a friend, and have never looked back. Staff are just amazing, lovely to talk to and always has my sons best
interests. The rooms activities are overall good. The whole atmosphere from senior staff is lovely. My son leaves for school this year. I will be so gutted when August comes. Everyone is like an extended family. If I do have any more children there is only one nursery on my list Little Dragons!

We have been using Little Dragons for both of our sons, older graduated 3 years ago, and younger started nearly 2 years ago. Both of them never had a bad day in the nursery and older one is always happy to go back there to pick up his brother and just to say hi whenever he can. Staff are extremely friendly
and helpful with any issues that may come up. Both of boys had to be on a special diet due to allergies and nursery kitchen chef made sure that their meals met their requirements and any replacements they received were as exciting and appetising as the items other kids have received. Each day is filled with fun and different activities so be warned, your child will come back tired, but it would be due to having a lot of fun in there.

Our son has been attending Little Dragons since he was a year old (now 4 years old) and he absolutely loves going feeling safe and cared for like a 2nd home. Staff have taken time to get to know him, his likes and dislikes and the best way to engage with him, he is always talking about the friends he
has made there and the staff and what they have done! He loves the garden and the rooms covered free flow areas. They have been amazing in the last year with the pandemic putting measures in place to keep everyone as safe as possible while ensuring the children have a great time. I couldn't ask for a better place for my son to go when we are working and we will be sad to leave to start school!

We have been using Little Dragons for 6 years with our 2 daughters. They have supported both our daughters through some incredibly tough times for our family and have remained their constant, reliable, safe place. Our 3 year old currently attends and feels like it is part of her home. She talks about
her keyworker as if she is family.
