Little Tots Nursery Reading is a full-time private Montessori Day Nursery and has been running for over 16 years. It is located near the Central Reading area and has an excellent reputation for providing the highest quality of care and education for children aged from 2 to 5 years.

What makes them different?

Little Tots Nurseries offer the best foundation for life, the Montessori philosophy is to teach children independence from an early age, every child learns at their own pace and is treated as an individual. They also pride themselves on their Forest School which is an inspirational experience, that offers children the opportunity to achieve and develop confidence through hands-on learning in a woodland environment. To complement the nursery day they also offer extra curriculum activities e.g Secret Garden, Diddy Dance , Music & Dance, Science, Cooking sessions. Freshly prepared meals included.

Unlike many nurseries, they benefit from a smaller environment and take a personal approach, the children remain with the same staff and peer group throughout their time at the nursery, helping them form relationships and gain confidence. All the children are integrated benefiting from strong social bonds, stability and continuity of care. The Montessori ethos encourages “family grouping” where children aged 2-5 work together, with the older children acting as role models for the younger children and the younger children benefiting from learning by example from the older children. Little Tots put the child and parent’s needs first.

Little Tots recognise how important it is that parents have instant access to their child learning journal and reports. They use ParentZone - a smartphone and tablet app which brings parents closer to their child’s development at nursery. Parents will be able to see a timeline of their child’s day at nursery, with photos, videos and notes on their child’s daily activities.

My son has attended Little Toys for almost a year now and I can see such lovely qualities in him due to the wonderful things they teach to the kids. He’s very polite from modelling the good behaviour that they teach and it’s nice that they always encourage independence. He has required a little extra
attentiveness due to health issues, and the team have been very supportive. The staff are clearly attentive and supportive and the manager is clearly very hands-on. It has a lovely family feel to it, and I can see the team all working together so well. I especially enjoy the focus weeks where they hone in on the development journey of your child. The forest school is something we are also very much looking forward to. I’m so glad we moved to Little Tots!

My child has had the best experience with this nursery so far with zero regrets. They have tried to tailor their activities to every child’s peculiarities and I love they’re developing their social skills and building their independence in preparation for the future. Highly recommend!

Little Tots is an amazing nursery. Our son loves attending and getting involved in the numerous activities and learning experiences, including playing with the cars in the garden, building structures with all the toy building materials, 1:1 learning time with teachers, stories, puzzles, board games,
imaginary play with friends and going off-site to forest school or trips in the local area - I could go and on!
The teachers are so warm and inviting; they also show so much enthusiasm towards the children and seem to genuinely love what they do. Our son gets on so well with the teachers and often speaks about them at home and tells us about what they’ve done together during the day.
The Little Tots environment is very nurturing and encouraging. I love the child-led ethos.
Our son will be starting school in September, and we will really miss the nursery so much.

Our daughter loves going to the nursery! Coming from a non-English background, the level of language and communication skills she's developed is incredible. Couldn’t ask for a better nursery for my daughter.

My eldest daughter has been attending Little Tots Nursery since she was 2 and is sadly due to finish this year in July before starting at primary. Little Tots is great, the staff are amazing and have really helped my daughter through the years. She loves going, and even when we were on holiday she

Little Tots has been amazing with our two daughters over the years, our youngest is currently there and has been thriving in the Montessori setting. We love the garden and how the children get to explore it throughout the day, with no restrictions. Our daughter seems to really enjoy the hands-on learning
and collaborative play she gets to do with children of different ages (of the preschool age). She comes home talking about her friend who is a year older than her - we love this and believe both children get so much out of it. The staff are also amazing, so patient, warm and encouraging. Our eldest who is now at school loves picking up her sister and seeing her old teachers again. Little Tots also hosts summer and winter parties to get the families together for a gathering outside of nursery hours. This really helps to promote a sense of community and encourages parents to meet each other properly.

Our daughter loves going to the nursery every day! Due to covid she spent her first two years at home and was only able to go to nursery after her second birthday. At Little Tots we've seen her development accelerate. Coming from a non-English background the level of language and communications skills
she's developed in less than 6 months is incredible. The nursery staff really nurture the kids' skills and interests and empower them to explore the world around them. Our daughter loves going every morning and when I pick her up she's always smiling and eager to tell me about her day.


The outdoor garden is amazing, full of fun activities and areas for children to engage in. Indoors the children are able to move from one area to the other easily and pick their activity.

My son started with Little Tots Nursery - Reading recently and from day one has absolutely loved it. The staff have been nothing but lovely and the other children have been so sweet and welcoming. I have a very sensitive and attached boy who I thought would not manage the nursery setting well but the teachers at Little Tots have shown him so much love and support and he is thriving. He has not cried once during drop-offs and has adjusted very well to his environment. His key worker has been an
absolute pleasure to work with and is always willing to work with us to address any of his dietary restrictions and other health requirements, without ever making us feel like we are a bother. Overall highly recommended for anyone looking for a slightly different approach to a typical nursery setting. We love the Montessori ethos and looking forward to seeing what he can learn there over the coming years.

Absolutely amazing nursery for my son. We had a difficult year with a different nursery but this one has been supportive and managed to engage my little boy who had terrible experiences with his last. He's so happy going in and always has so much to tell me when I pick him up! I feel he is safe and
cared for. It makes the world of difference having staff that actually like and enjoy their work. You can see it through the children! Please never lose your ethics and maintaining staff quality.

Our experience of Little Tots has been fantastic from the moment of first contact with the Manager and the team. They were incredibly understanding and patient when our start date at the nursery was delayed. When our daughter finally began at the nursery nine months ago, I found all the photos, videos
and information on parentzone incredibly reassuring as I could see that my daughter was playing and learning and she was, most importantly, happy! She has benefitted so much from all the extra activities Little Tots offer, such as Forest School, dance classes, and cooking. She has formed good relationships with the staff, all of whom I’ve interacted with are friendly, helpful and kind. Regular news letters provide in depth information about all the topics, materials and ideas the children have been exploring which is great to know! We are so happy that we choose this nursery for our daughter and have loved seeing her independence, curiosity and empathy flourishing. Highly recommend.

We love the nursery! My son who started at age three was very shy. Teachers helped him to settle in and are still very supportive.

Lovely nursery setting and staff. My daughter has been attending for two years after switching from another nursery, and absolutely loves it. (She could not settle at the other nursery). She has bonded very well with all of the team, the activities are great and varied, she loves being able to use the
outside space throughout the day and the extra activities like dance, cooking, forest school etc are just great! Will be signing my little one up when she is old enough to join.
