My daughter started the nursery in October 2016 after I had fretted and worried over leaving her for the first time while I went back to work after maternity leave. I can safely say that those worries are now a thing of the past as the team at Little Learners are simply amazing. I leave my daughter
at the nursery knowing that she is in the best care with staff really bringing her on with her development, confidence and eating. It has an open door policy where I can pop in any time or ring them to see how my daughter is doing. The day is structured well and my daughter is always being offered lots of lovely healthy meals and snacks. Nappies are changed on a strict timetable, milk is given promptly but most importantly, my daughter and the staff have built an incredible bond. I have peace of mind when I am at work and the nursery manager, is extremely professional and always goes the extra mile. Little Learners has given my daughter a head start in many many ways.

Our daughter has been attending Little Learners for about a year, and after a shy start, we are so happy to say that she now loves “school”.
The staff are so friendly and helpful, informing us of her progress, day to day and over the months she has attended Little Learners.
They’re so personable,
it feels as though our little girl is off to her 2nd family for the day. When we walked past Little Learners at a weekend, she was crying as she wanted to go to school. We purchased a couple of Little Learner t-shirts for her and it’s always the first choice of clothing, even at weekends! She loves wearing her “School t-shirt!!!”.

My daughter has been attending for almost 5 months. We are very happy with the setting, staff, and most importantly my daughter has settled in well and has grown in confidence and is very happy.

This is her second nursery (we changed due to moving house) and we are very impressed with the nursery

and can see many differences (for the better) compared to the previous one both in terms of her development and happiness, the friendliness and overall manner and professionalism of the staff.

Would recommend to anyone!

Our daughter has been attending Little Learners just over 8 months to date. We enrolled her at the age of 7 months after a welcoming reception from the Nursery Manager at Elm Park. Since she has been attending the nursery, we have seen key developments at home. The Key workers at the nursery are fun
and approachable making it comfortable and exciting for the children and reassuring for parents. We have had a good experience with the nursery communicating to us about changes to the nursery, upcoming events, plans for the coming month when our daughter was unwell and also the day to day activities carried out by the children via tapestry.

Overall pleased with the nursery.

May the good work continue and go beyond.

Slightly disappointed with this nursery on a number of points:

- We stated clearly in our forms and verbally that our child should not be given pork. But they gave him sausage and mash and wrote this in his diary. We raised this with staff and they just said sorry.

- Sadly staff members, including

the manager, often smoke outside during their breaks. This is disappointing as cigarette smoke still stays on the body and clothes when they go back to the children.

- There seems to be little interaction with the children. Often you'll see children just crying in the corner. The staff members hardly interact or play with one-year-olds, they just sit on the floor and hold them.

- Our son comes back very hungry from his day in the nursery, which probably amounts to him not eating very much while he is there.

However, they do have painting activities and sent photos of our son trying to paint. There is also a pet hamster which the kids can seem to play with.

Reply from Julia Ward, Quality Manager at Little Learners Nursery & Pre-School (St Nicholas Avenue)Thank you for bringing these points of concern to our attention. We work very hard to ensure that our Nursery offers the highest standards of care in a nurturing environment and so immediately addressed all these concerns as soon as they were raised to us in order to bring improvement.

•    We apologise unreservedly that your child was fed sausages. This error should have never occurred and we have reviewed our procedures to make sure it can’t happen again.
•    There appears to be a case of mistaken identity as our Nursery Manager does not smoke. All staff members have been reminded of our smoking policy. This clearly states not only that staff must not smoke on our premises, but that they must not smoke while in uniform. We hope that an incident of staff smoking on premises or while in uniform never occurs, but should this happen our team is clear on our policy and likely consequences of such a breach.
•    We are unable to identify with the atmosphere you have described as this is in sharp contrast to the comments received from other visitors to our setting. Daily, age-appropriate activities are planned for all children. While from time to time children may become upset, at Little Learners each child is allocated a key worker who ensures that they are nurtured and comforted in those difficult moments. Nevertheless, we have taken all your observations on board and are providing some additional training to staff.
•    If parents are ever concerned about the amount that their child is eating during the day, we encourage them to speak to their child’s keyworker and ask to see the meal records.

We always find it best if we work in partnership with parents so that all concerns about a child’s welfare can be resolved quickly.

Very happy so far, my duaghter has been coming every Thursday for a month now. She has settled better than we expected. She is familiar and comfortable with staff. It is reassuring to know that she is being looked after well and is in safe hands. We have no worries.

Since Little Learners Nursery & Pre-School took over in June 2015 I've been very pleased and satisfied with the positive changes they have made.
My son loves not only all his friends but the teachers too which in my opinion speaks volumes.
So much variety of activities for the children and as a
full time working mother, it's lovely to know that my son is safe and well looked after.
The girls there are an asset to Little Learners and I'm just thankful they are a part of my son's life and learning journey.

Amazing nursery. Amazing staff. Couldn't fault one thing. My second daughter was there for 3.5 years until she left this month to start school. Staff genuinely care for each and every child in their care. Activities are always well thought out and my child has learnt so much.

My son came to this nursery from another nursery, where it was hard to get information on my child's development and what he did at nursery. I have no regrets in moving my son to Little Learners Nursery & Pre-School - it was the best decision!!

My son has formed really close bonds to the staff

and the other children. I'm always getting updates through their online portal on my son's development and each month information is sent back and forward regarding the theme for the month. Since starting, his language has improved, counting and now letters and writing. The thing I love about Little Learners is that all the children mix together at certain points during the day, so it's like one big happy family.

I love Little Learners and would recommend it to anyone!

Absolutely wonderful nursery. My daughter loved every minute of her time here and will miss it desperately. The staff are amazing and really do get the most out of the children. We were sorry to leave. They have set my daughter up for school perfectly and I cannot thank them enough.

My daughter, who is nearly 3, started at this nursery in October of this year. All the nursery staff are lovely. The food they offer is good quality and healthy. The nursery staff inform me of what has been offered to her to eat each day and if/how much of each option she has eaten. This is in her
home school diary, which the nursery provides, along with a short review of what my daughter has been doing that day. She Loves being at the nursery, she loves going on outings to the local shops, library and park.
The nursery staff do lots of different activities with the children and if you provide your email address they set you up with an account on Tapestry, where they put photographs and a few short words of what your child has been doing, along with any observation/milestone markers, so that you can see exactly what your child has been doing. The nursery send you an email link for you to view it. Its lovely knowing that she is happy and to be able to see what she gets up to while I am at work.
I cant speak highly enough of the girls who work at the nursery, they do a fantastic job and are very approachable if you have any questions or worries.

I would definately recommend this nursery to a friend

My daughter has attended the nursery since she was one now aged four. She really enjoys her two days and has lots of fun with her friends. Has developed into a confident and sociable girl during her time at the nursery. I think the staff have helped to develop her conversational skills and her confidence.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.911 for Little Learners Nursery & Pre-School (St Nicholas Avenue) is calculated as follows: ( (174 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 191 Ratings = 4.911
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Learners Nursery & Pre-School (St Nicholas Avenue) is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 number of registered child places is 7.6, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
