  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for City Child Day Nursery and Preschool in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.773 for City Child Day Nursery and Preschool is calculated as follows: ( (123 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 154 Ratings = 4.773

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.463 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for City Child Day Nursery and Preschool is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 10.8 positive Reviews (54 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 10.8 Target = 0.463

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I have a child in the toddler room since October 2017, it has been amazing to see how much he has developed over the last few months and his confidence has grown a lot since attending the nursery. The care he receives from the nursery is first class, the staff has done an amazing job with him and I cannot thank them enough for being so brilliant! It is very difficult to find a nursery in London that offers such a huge outdoor space for the children to play in and this is very important for us as our child loves playing outside.

Katherine O'Brien, Digital Marketing Coordinator at City Child Day Nursery and Preschool responded to this review on 22 Feb 2018:

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review and thank you for your positive comments. I will ensure they are fed back to the Nursery Team.

With regards to your rating on the food section. I will ask the Manager to ensure you see the weekly menus so you aware of what the children are eating on a daily basis. Our Bright Horizons menus are carefully planned and freshly prepared by our chefs, in consultation with nutritionists and a daily menu should be displayed at nurseries. In addition to a balanced lunch, our children also tuck into a morning snack, afternoon tea and in some nurseries we also provide breakfast. Please do feel free to speak to the Nursery Manager at any time.

Kind Regards,

I have a toddler and a baby at this Nursey, it’s a very safe place to leave your child, the management and staff are absolutely amazing, they treat my two girls as if they were their own. The staff will always update you on the process of your child, they accommodate every need my children require. The Confidence my toddler has is all due to her being so happy when she goes to the Nursey.
Thank you to everyone at City Child. You are one of the best.

Both of my children go to this nursery and they both love it. The most important thing to me is that my children are safe and happy and they are both of these things at City Child. The staff are great and really supportive. The hours the nursery is open makes juggling working and pickups/drop off easier.

We are with City Child to great satisfaction for 3.5 years now, with both daughters (4 and 2 years old) attending. City Child is a little children's paradise hidden in a small alley near the Barbican. Fantastic garden that was completely renewed 4 years ago and a cosy atmosphere, with very attentive, caring staff who immediately made our daughters feel at home.

The nursery has it's own chef, catering for breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. Whilst every nursery goes through times of staff turnover, City Child has always managed to keep its lovely character. Management is very active in organising activities, both inside and outside curriculum, for both the children (eg. piano lessons, sports, Spanish/French) and parents (eg. first aid).

Communication is proactive, with regular newsletters and specific updates when needed. Our daughters absolutely love it, with the eldest already having made great friends whilst going from the baby room via the toddlers to pre-school. Highly recommended.

There are a lot of positive things I could say about City Child Nursery, but in the end it comes down to the fact that my daughter is (and has always been) extremely happy to be there - that's enough for me!

Our son has been attending City Child Nursery for almost one year, starting when he two years old. He has suffered developmental delays, had severe glue ear (which has delayed his speech) and is hyper mobile, all of which made us very anxious about sending him to nursery in the first place. However, since day one, the staff at City Child have helped him more than we could have hoped for. His development has accelerated to the point that he has almost caught up to the other children and he is content and happy in the bright, safe and clean environment of the nursery. Despite it's central location, the nursery has a larger outside space than others we visited and he loves it. The staff have only ever been helpful, courteous and accommodating when we have asked for help making changes to his schedule and so forth. We couldn't ask for more from the nursery and fully recommend them.

Our son has been attending City Child Nursery for 8 months now. Since he has started we have been amazed by his development both mentally and physically.
The staff are super friendly and really attentive to his needs. They have worked with us to put a development programme in place and they monitor his progress, which is reported on in his personal development book. At the end of each day we get a written report on what activities our child has participated in and what he has eaten, which really puts our mind at ease that they are really looking after him.
One of the reasons that we chose this nursery is the convenience for both my husband and I in relation to getting to work, and it's also open from 7:30 until 18:30.
Outdoor space was also important to us and they have the most fantastic play area. You wouldn't expect it being tucked away in the city.
We are really happy with our choice of nursery and seeing our son so confident and happy means the world to us.

Our son has been at city child for just over a year and we have been incredibly impressed by the genuine level of care and support staff have shown him (and us!). The nursery has a fantastic large out door garden which is unusual for central London nurseries. There are also a huge number of activities on offer for the children from trips to the library to song and move to water/sand/ paint play etc- our son is well entertained.

I have sent my son last year and have gone through the baby room and toddler room.
The only thing I can say is how much all of us love this nursery.
Location: conveniently located with multiple tube stations nearby, has lovely outdoor garden where they go out regularly,
Secluded place away from busy city and near to Barbican library where children are taken over there frequently.
Teachers: very helpful and extremely friendly.
Teachers from other rooms all know my son by name! They arranged gradual settling in period at the beginning and transitioning to toddler room.
Handover: daily detailed communication sheet so that parents can have a good snapshot of the child's daily life.
Parents' concerns and opinions are well listened to and quickly acted upon.
Events and activities: lots of fun events song and move, potteries, hatching chicks, summertime bbq
Overall, I think my son is in the best place he can be and would like to use this opportunity to thank all the staff at the nursery.

Our eldest daughter has been at the nursery since she was 13 months old (now 3.5) and our youngest joined a couple of months ago.
We have always been very happy with level of care and nurturing environment created by the friendly staff at the nursery.
Both our children are happy and content and have formed great relationships with their allocated key people, which makes it easier leaving them each day.

They are extremely flexible with his schedule as well which is a major plus and constantly giving us advice onhis wellbeing. Location and facility wise is top notch.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Description:

I joined Bright Horizons as a room leader and quickly made my way up and was promoted to a deputy manager, helping to support and guide the team. I have an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and I completed my courser in Nursery Management in 2014.

I previously worked for a City of London nursery where I began a nursery nurse. After a few years I joined Bright Horizons, supporting the baby room, helping new children and families to settle into the nursery environment.

I have always enjoyed being in the childcare and the sense of achievement it brings when you see the children in your care happy, confident and learning new skills ready for their school years. Just knowing that I have been an important part of their lives makes me feel very privileged and proud.

I hope to continue my journey with Bright Horizons and hope to be a manager in the next few years, so that I may continue to grow and develop my skills, supporting and making difference.
