Review of Sancton Wood Nursery from Emily S (Mother of Child) published on 2 September 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Could not recommend this nursery more highly. Both my daughters have attended / still attend, and we are very happy with it, and have been for the last 4 years. The staff are the gem of this nursery - absolutely brilliant, responsive, kind, proactive, honest and caring. Perfect balance between letting my girls grow in themselves and by themselves, but supporting where needed. They love going in, and are happy on collection.

Today is our last day at Sancton Wood Nursery, and it is an emotional one. To say goodbye to the kindest people, who care deeply about your child and who are also a huge support to the parents. Over the last two years, I have seen my daughter flourish and grow under their care. I could not recommend this nursery highly enough. I will be forever thankful to the staff and the good memories made by the wonderful people we have met. The support, care and positive energy at this nursery shows on my child's happy face every day. The best start in life you could possibly give your child is at Sancton Wood Nursery. I will miss this time in our lives.

We couldn't be happier with our experience at this wonderful nursery! From the very beginning, the team has been warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring. It's clear that the staff truly love what they do, and that makes all the difference.
Our child has grown so much in confidence, independence, and social skills since starting here. The activities are creative, engaging, and thoughtfully planned, giving the children opportunities to learn through play in a safe and nurturing environment.
We especially love the opportunity for forest school in Mighty Oaks. It's such a fantastic experience for the children to explore nature and develop practical skills outdoors. Seeing our child come home excited about this has been so special.
Communication with parents has been excellent. We are kept informed of daily activities, milestones and any updates.

We wholeheartedly recommend this nursery to any parent looking for a safe, stimulating and loving environment for their little one.

We are so pleased we chose The Acorn, our child is always so happy going and leaving with a smile. The teachers are caring and fun and we love that the children learn with play as toddlers should. I think the Acorn is a wonderful community for both children and parents.

We have absolutely loved our experience at The Acorn Nursery. The staff are genuinely like sunshine each day, greeting every child with such warmth and care. The nursery has a wonderful community atmosphere and feels very inclusive. We especially love the range of activities and clubs on offer, as well as the lunch options provided. We were also thrilled to see that there is a piano and singing in every room. It truly feels like an extension of your family, which is exactly the kind of nurturing environment children aged 2-4 need in their early years.

We're so happy we found Sancton Wood Nursery!

After visiting several nurseries, this one felt right as warm, caring, clean, and professional. The classrooms are clean, and the staffs have been amazing from day one. More than a year later, we're just as happy with our choice. The spacious, tidy backyard is another wonderful bonus.

I've also had the chance to chat with two other mums, and they're equally happy with the nursery , which says a lot about the care and consistency here.

The nursery's app has been a great help. It gives simple yet important updates, like whether our son napped and what he had for lunch. These details make it easier to plan the rest of the day and feel connected with his routine.

We're deeply thankful to all the teachers for creating such a nurturing environment where our son feels loved and cared for.

The head of the nursery, leads with both heart and skill, and it's clear the management had a great eye in choosing the right person.

Overall Experience

Our son has been in this nursery since September 2024 and his progress has been truly astounding. The head and deputy head teachers are amazing, early years education is very clearly their passion and they recognise the strengths in each child (well they definitely did for our son). We receive regular feedback both formal and informal. Our son has progressed with phonics, reading, numbers and language to reception level and he has only just reached 4. He goes in happy every day, enjoys the lunches and comes home tired but happy talking about his friends and teachers. Honestly we couldn't recommend it enough.

This school is everything I wanted from a nursery - I cannot praise Bassett Bear House enough! My daughter is bilingual, she started school for the first time in September 2024 at Bassett Bear Nursery and within just three months she was thriving! From the moment we walked in we felt like part of a loving family, the staff are incredibly kind, attentive and genuinely passionate about nurturing young minds. The warmth, care and dedication they show to the kids is phenomenal! The environment is beautifully designed-bright and the teachers go above and beyond to ensure that every child feels safe, happy and encouraged to grow at their own pace. Communication with parents is fantastic, giving us peace of mind that our little one is in the best hands. It's heartwarming to see our child so excited to go to nursery each day, making wonderful friendships and developing confidence. We couldn't have asked for a better place for our little one to learn, play and thrive. Highly recommended!

Our daughter has had a wonderful experince at OHS Nursery. They provide a lovely but gentle atmosphere for play and learning. The staff are very experienced and has really allowed our daughter to excel in phonics, reading and maths.

She comes home very happy everyday.

Our children have been extremely happy in the nursery this year. The staff are incredibly warm and attentive. The facility is clean, safe and comfortable. We would have liked to have seen a smaller class size but the school has managed the volume well.

Reply from Anne Serandour, Head of Admissions at Orchard House School

We are so happy to hear that your children are enjoying their time in our Nursery! Our spacious, fully-refurbished Nursery is designed to welcome a good size cohort who will continue to grow with us until they reach 11. This school is everything I want from a nursery - kind, compassionate and fun. Lets face it your kid learns when he enjoys the day. The teacher to pupil ratio is excellent. The facilities are second to non. Bear house has all the toys kids dream off. Behind the fun though there is some serious stuff going on with the kids already straight into there phonics. My eldest is at Bassett House and the transition from nursery to Reception is excellent as they are in the same building and used to seeing the older kids.

My daughter went from a private daycare to Bassett House Nursery and absolutely thrived. She started excelling in her vocabulary, speech, comprehension, reading, maths, and art. She has developed a lovely network of friends (the parents are great too) and has really blossomed into a lovely girl, working hard to always achieve her house points. I felt that Bassett was small enough to provide the community feel I was after, yet sructured enough to provide the education I was after, all with keeping in mind that my child is young and therefore learning should be encouraged through play. Loved having my daughter with Mrs. Hughes looking after her, and very excited to be having her little sister join as soon as she turns 2 as well!

Having moved both our children to Basset we are delighted about the school experience so far. The facilities are great but the teaching staff are what really make the school experience so wonderful.
Our children have excelled since joining becoming more independent and even teaching us a few things.

They are always happy to go to school which is something that we always feared in them starting somewhere new but often they are in such a hurry to get into school they forget to say goodbye.

We could not have asked for a better start to 'school life' than the one my child had at Bassett Bear House. The head of early years and nursery lead leads a fantastic team of staff that ensures a nurturing and exciting environment for all the children. They make learning fun and dynamic while getting the children well versed in the basics they need to start school. We were really impressed with how much my child learnt but also so happy with the community of friends he built. It is also wonderful how involved the nursery is with the rest of the school making it a great stepping stone before reception.

We couldn't be happier with our experience at Bassett. From the very beginning, it was clear that this is a place where children are truly cared for and nurtured in a calm and thoughtful environment. Our son has grown so much during his time here-both academically and personally. It's been amazing to see how much he has learned, all while feeling completely at ease.

The teachers are truly outstanding. They are kind, patient, and incredibly attentive, always taking the time to understand each child's individual needs. Their gentle approach created a space where our son felt comfortable, confident, and excited to learn every day.

One of the things we appreciated most was the calm and peaceful atmosphere of the nursery. It was the perfect setting for our son, allowing him to thrive without feeling overwhelmed. The thoughtful activities, creative play, and strong focus on emotional well-being made it clear that the staff truly care about the children's overall development.

A nurturing environment with fantastic caring teachers who seem to genuinely care about the children's development and wellbeing. The space may seem smaller than other nurseries, but they make such a good effort to take the children outside, as well as local trips to the library, fire station and theatre.

My two older children are at the school so naturally I was thrilled to learn that my youngest could join them in the Nursery and the progress through to the main school. The early years team are incredible, headed by the force of nature the Head of Early Years (a mother of one of the pupils herself). She is everything you want in a Nursery teacher; loving, nurturing and the perfect guide for little minds. Since my daughter started she has come leaps and bounds in her language skills, numeracy, imaginative play and social skills. She is able to interact with adults and children alike, and the best thing about Bassett in my opinion is that it truly feels like a family, so all 150-odd children and staff know each other and are friends.

The Nursery rooms themselves are a dream come true with soft-play and sensory style facilities, toilets made for tinies and every other need anticipated and catered-for. Thank goodness for Bassett!

Overall Experience

My daughter started at the nursery in January, mid-year, as we decided to transfer her from another setting that wasn't the best fit for her. Despite joining halfway through the year, she adapted incredibly well, and I'm so grateful to one lady for making the transition so smooth and welcoming.

Every time I picked her up, I saw a happy, playful child - such a contrast to our previous experience. She was learning something new every day, and what's been especially wonderful is how excited she's been to share it all with me. Seeing her enjoy nursery so much and thrive in this environment has brought me real peace of mind.

Thank you to the whole team for creating such a warm, supportive, and engaging space for the children!
