The prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation has been awarded to Kiddi Caru Day Nursery and Redhill, which is a part of Grandir UK.
The Eco-Schools initiative was founded in 1994 with the aim of empowering children and young people to connect with important environmental issues and get actively involved in making their nursery or school a more sustainable to be.
Its simple seven step programme features ten topics which break down global issues like climate change and recycling into more manageable themes, so children can implement meaningful change in their setting, local community and beyond.
The Eco-Schools report commended Kiddi Caru Redhill’s approach to the award. They chose age-appropriate topics for their Eco-Schools action plan which provided the biggest opportunity to make a positive impact.
To help drive the project forward, they also set-up an Eco-Committee which consisted of “like-minded” children and nursery team members who had expressed enthusiasm and a “love for the planet.”
The examples Kiddi Caru Redhill provided of their environmental education “were described as a “masterclass” by the report.
“They are practical and fun examples of eco-education with a real-life context that all young people at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery can engage with. Your nursery garden ensures that education is centred around environmental issues. This will certainly help them form a deep connection with nature at an early age!”
The report also gave additional praise to how the nursery had “adapted the programme to achieve the maximum impact for the young people you work with.”
“This is reflected in your greatest success, which is stated as the children’s enthusiasm. They only have this enthusiasm because of your creativity, passion, and tenacity, you have created a group of enthusiastic young planet protectors – and you should take great pride in this.”
Children are engaged in similar activities like planting, growing and nurturing fruits and vegetables, and learning how to be environmentally aware through one of Grandir UK’s bespoke education programmes Sow & Grow. To learn more, please book a visit at your local Grandir UK nursery today!
Tara Coulson, Nursery Manager at Kiddi Caru Day Nursery and Preschool in Redhill, comments “The children, team and I are so proud to have achieved our Eco-School Green Flag award! This award is exactly what is needed in Redhill, Surrey: a nursery that puts emphasis on the environment and eco-friendly action. I want to thank my hardworking and knowledgeable team, our parents and families for their support, and most importantly, the children who made passion really drove this project.”
