WHAT WE ARE LEARNING - WEEK COMMENCING 18TH MAY 2026

Clever Cats and Clever Kittens Next week in Preschool, we will be focusing on the story of Elmer and exploring themes around diversity, similarities and differences. The children will be encouraged to talk about what makes them unique and celebrate the differences that make everyone special, just like Elmer.

As part of our activities, the children will be practising repeating patterns and weaving using a variety of colourful materials, helping to develop their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills while linking to Elmer’s bright patchwork colours. The children will also be developing their fine motor and cutting skills by carefully cutting out rectangles to create their very own Elmer pictures.

Ladybirds Next week, the Ladybirds will be exploring colours in a variety of ways as we focus on Elmer! In the construction area, the children will use coloured blocks to build towers and structures, encouraging them to recognise and talk about different colours. On the craft table, the children will work together to create a bright rainbow using a range of coloured materials, supporting their creativity and fine motor skills. The Ladybirds will also enjoy mixing different coloured paint together to discover how colours can change when combined, promoting curiosity, sensory exploration and communication through play.

Butterflies Next week the Butterflies will be celebrating Elmer Day! The children will enjoy a range of colourful sensory activities including messy play, music and movement, story time and texture exploration. These experiences will support the babies’ communication, physical development and curiosity while celebrating how every child is unique and special, just like Elmer!
