At the heart of the Nursery is a commitment to each child’s happiness and development. The caring team builds strong relationships with families, ensuring every child feels known, valued, and supported as they grow in independence and thrive socially and emotionally. Pennthorpe Nursery is truly exceptional. Every single member of staff is caring, kind, and deeply committed to the children in their care. The pride they take in nurturing and supporting the children shines through in everything they do.

I genuinely couldn't ask for a better group of people to look

after my children. They do a fabulous job creating a safe, happy, and nurturing environment, and I feel completely at peace knowing my children are so well cared for each day. Pennthorpe Nursery is a wonderful place, and we feel incredibly lucky to be part of it.

Our daughter has had the most wonderful start at Pennthorpe Nursery. The progress she's made in such a short time has amazed us - she can already write her name and recognises so many phonics sounds, all through fun and engaging learning.

She's built a lovely group of friends and comes home every

day full of stories about her adventures. The woodland, playground, and extensive grounds give the children the most magical space to explore, play, and learn. One of her favourite parts is community time, when the older children come down to spend time with the nursery - she absolutely loves it.

The setting itself is beautiful, but what truly makes Pennthorpe special is the people. The staff, families, and children create such a warm, happy, and nurturing environment. It really does feel like a hidden gem, and we feel so lucky our daughter is part of it.

My daughter has attended 3 different nurseries (one for house move and the other as Pennthorpe doesn't start until age 2) and it was the first nursery that she didn't go in crying at least once on a weekly basis. The staff are caring and supportive and the children seem to have a wonderful time.

We couldn't be happier with this nursery. The staff are genuinely kind and caring, and there is always such a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a real home-from-home feel. The children enjoy a wonderful variety of fun and engaging activities, alongside fantastic opportunities to use the wider Pennthorpe
School facilities - from story time in the library, to PE in the sports hall, and even taking part in school productions.
Forest School is a real highlight, with beautiful woodland and grounds right on the doorstep for the children to explore. Phonics and early writing skills are nurtured in such a fun and creative way that the children don't even realise they are learning. Every child is treated as an individual and their achievements are truly celebrated, with thoughtful touches like certificates and awards that make them feel special and praised.
Since starting here, my child's confidence and independence have soared. I would thoroughly recommend this nursery and school to anyone.

Absolutely Amazing Nursery - My Son Thrives Here!
I can't recommend this nursery highly enough - it's truly outstanding in every way, and it's been an absolute game-changer for our family since my son started attending.
We felt so welcomed and at ease. The staff are genuinely warm, caring, and incredibly
passionate about what they do. They don't just look after the children; they truly nurture them, getting to know each child's personality, likes, and little quirks. My son (who can be a bit over energetic) settled in so quickly because of the gentle, patient approach everyone took with him.
The teachers are fantastic - they always make time for a quick chat at drop-off or pick-up, sharing lovely details about his day, what he enjoyed, and even sending photos on the app so we can see him having fun.
What stands out most is how much my son absolutely loves going there. Every morning he gets excited when we mention nursery which makes my life easier

I couldn't be happier with my daughter's experience in the Honeypot class. The nursery provides such a rich variety of resources, and I'm especially impressed by their wonderful Forest School sessions. The team also puts so much thought into planning exciting activities. Every member of staff we've
met has been both incredibly friendly and thoroughly professional. They create a warm, nurturing environment where my daughter feels safe, valued, and supported in her learning. We feel so fortunate to be part of this nursery community and couldn't recommend the Honeypot class more highly!

Our eldest child enjoyed every day he spent in both the Honey Pot and Beehive. He enjoyed water play, painting, forest school, baking and much more. He developed wonderful relationships with the incredible staff and children in his class. When he moved into Reception at Pennthorpe School the transition
was seamless.

Our youngest child has just moved from the Honey Pot into Beehive. She is loving it so much and it is amazing to watch her grow in confidence and independence daily.

We highly recommend Pennthorpe School!

Our son joined the Beehive (pre-Reception year) and settled in very quickly, making friends and feeling at home from the start. The Beehive year provides a great foundation for learning, introducing phonics, maths, and early writing in a way that feels engaging and age-appropriate, ensuring children
are well prepared for Reception.
The teachers have been wonderful at encouraging and nurturing each child's individual interests. In our son's case, embracing his love of art with many creative opportunities to develop his skills.
The children also benefit from the school's specialist teachers, e.g. forest school sessions in the school's own woods and PE twice a week.
Beehive children are also included in wider school activities e.g. assemblies, the Christmas Play and Sports Day. There are also lovely opportunities for parents to get involved in school life such as parents' football and netball. We've been so happy with the nursery - it's been a wonderful start to our son's school journey.

We enrolled my son into The Honey Pot to start just after his second birthday in September 2023. He had been at home for the first two years of his life so it was important to us he was somewhere small, nurturing and with great facilities so he could grow in his experiences and confidence. We were particularly
impressed with how the staff treat the children as their own, genuinely caring about our son and being so positive and enthusiastic about his time at the nursery. We also really loved his exposure to the facilities in the wider school and to be able to participate in assemblies and other activities with some older children, which really grew his confidence.
We kept our son in the nursery as he moved up to the next group The Beehive, after a year at The Honey Pot. This transition was seamless, he was so excited, and the excellent experience we had in his first year continued and grew. He is the youngest in the academic year but his development has been extremely impressive.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.600)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.600) out of 10 for Pennthorpe School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for Pennthorpe School is calculated as follows: ( (108 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pennthorpe School is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 number of registered child places is 10. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.9
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
