Funky Owls Nursery is situated in the heart of Colliers Wood, just a stone's throw from the underground and local bus routes, making the setting the perfect choice for busy working parents. Behind their doors, you will find a beautifully sustainable, natural environment, where children are excited to learn, and practitioners are excited to teach.

At the same time, nestled amongst the Wandle Park, Colliers Wood Recreation Ground, and on the doorstep of Merton Abbey Mills, there is an abundance of opportunities for children to extend their learning beyond the setting on their daily excursions. The team believe children should have the opportunity to explore their local surroundings and be involved in their local community.

Funky Owls Nursery's ethos is to follow each child's lead to enhance their learning, so they can become their best self.                

The rooms are set up as follows:

Yews (3mth – approx. 18mth/ walking)   
Sycamores (approx. 18mth – 2yrs)            
Willows (2yr – 3yr)

Funky Owls Nursery is open 7.30 - 18.00, Monday - Friday, closing for all public Bank Holidays, and 4 staff training days per year.

Funky Owls Nursery benefits from an onsite kitchen, where fresh food is prepared daily by their qualified Early Years Nursery Chef; they do not buy in ready meals from an external supplier.         

Funky Owls Nursery uses EYLog, an app for smartphones which provides you with all the details about your child’s day including sleep times, nappies and meals/ amount they have eaten. Each day you will receive an observation – either a photograph or video – of an activity they have particularly enjoyed.

Almost every month, parents will be invited to attend themed events, where families have the opportunity to spend more time with the wonderful team and get to know others.

Funky owls has looked after both of my children, for the past 5 years. Both children despite having totally different personalities have loved their time here. Although the nursery doesn't have a garden the children go out daily for enriching adventures, which I actually think is so much better than
them being stuck on nursery grounds and looking at the same ole garden area. The kids here go to farms, museums, china town, explore all of the local parks and rivers, do street walks at Christmas to see all of the lights. It has a real community feel and I'd happily recommend this nursery as a great safe place for your children to learn. There's also sports coaches, musicians, reptiles farms that visit the nursery and each year they hatch their own chicks. The staff are amazing to pull all of this off.

Overall, we have had a very positive experience at Funky Owls. Our room leader had kept us informed, as well as the daily diaries. She is very good at remembering any changes to routines. Our little one started at Funky Owls at 8 months old. She absolutely loves it - she has big smiles for her key worker(s) on pick up and big smiles for me and her dad at pick up. They offered a really comprehensive settling in week (increasing by an hour each day) which really helped me feel confident
when it did come to leaving her there for her first full day.
They arrange lots of trips and activities which she seems to really enjoy, and the activities they do in the baby room have really influenced her skills in all areas - for example, crawling / climbing safely down steps / brushing a dolls hair / using a sippy cup. It's lovely to see her enjoying herself and we like seeing the photos of her day on the app.
Her room leader did a "parents evening" with us after a few months, and we were really impressed by how detailed and structured their assessment of her was, and how well the team knew her. We really got the impression they care about her!
Very happy with Funky Owls!

Our daughter started at Funky Owls at 9 months and has now been there for around 4 months - she absolutely loves it. The staff are friendly and our daughter always comes home happy and fulfilled at the end of the day. She naps well there, eats well and has a wide variety of activities with other babies
and teachers to keep her stimulated and excited.

Funky Owls Nursery Colliers Wood is a wonderful, unique nursery. My son attended Funky Owls from 10 months old until preschool and thrived there. It's a nurturing, caring environment, and while they don't have an outdoor space, they make up for it with daily trips to local parks, helping my son build
his independence and strength through walking. They also take the children further afield on the tube and bus, visiting the local Theatre, Park and museums in town, such a brilliant offering!
Their food options were always varied and healthy, they regularly listened to parents to obtain feedback and updated us daily through their app with pictures and write-ups of all the activities that day. They also provided development feedback each term along with inviting us parents into the nursery on special occasions like Mother's Day to spend time with our children in the setting.
We were very sad to leave Funky Owls and still miss it. It is a lovely nursery setting.

The nursery is great and my child thoroughly enjoys attending. My child has developed great relationships with their teachers and this in turn has aided in their personal and social development. They have a wonderful range of activities that they do with the children on a daily basis and despite not
having an outdoor space they make good use of the nearby parks and facilities such as the library. They also do trips for the older children farther afield which helps develop their independence and use of public transport.

At Funky Owls Nursery my one-year-old son has settled in well thanks to the very well-trained and loving staff. They are very patient and able to create a warm and nurturing environment. They do a variety of activities and children look really happy and engaged purposively. The premises are clean and
safe. They do not allow mobiles inside and they do not have any plastic toys, furniture or equipment for the children to use. Everything they have is wooden which is really appreciated.

Funky Owls is absolutely brilliant. Our daughter started nursery there at 10 months and the staff were amazing at making both our daughter and us as comfortable as possible with the transition. They were very thoughtful in terms of settling techniques and what is most comforting for each child. Our
daughter now loves nursery. She is very happy around all the staff and loves waving to them when she comes in in the morning. She enjoys all of their outdoor excursions and I'm always very impressed by the variety of trips they go on, which definitely makes up for the lack of outdoor space. The nursery has also really helped her development. Since being there, she has started walking and her speech has really improved, which is down to an engaged and interactive staff. I couldn't recommend the nursery and its team more highly.

Our experience with Funky Owls has been brilliant. The staff there are super friendly and genuinely care for the children. Our daughter really enjoys her time there and is in great spirits afterwards. The food is great and varied and always lets them taste new foods and cuisine. There is no outside
space but they make up for this with daily outside trips - helping our daughter be a competent and confident walker. She loves the activities they put on and her learning and development have really been supported by the staff there.

Funky Owls is a small nursery that brings out the best in each child. My daughter has been there for 3.5 years and my son has been there for 9 months. In that time, the staff consistently made the effort to get to know their personalities and preferences and have helped them both to develop in confidence
and skills.
The children go out on trips every day, which has helped with walking skills, stamina, and knowledge of the local area. The food is varied and nutritious and both of mine love it!
One of the best things for me about the nursery is the way that they build a community with the parents - we have regular parties for main events, regular parent evenings to catch up on how they are doing, and parent reps for feedback and suggestions.
The only downside is the staff turnover, we hate to see our favourite staff move on!

My son has been at Funky Owls since he was just 9 months old. I have seen him grow with the nursery every day especially now in the Willows room. The nursery is lovely warm and inviting. Every day there is a new activity on experience planned and he seems to be really thriving from the variety. Our
regular catchups with the nursery workers are informative and reassuring. They are very good communicators and efficient.

My son started at Funky Owls when he was just 6 months old. From the beginning it was easy to settle, he was always happy to stay there and they took such good care of him. Fast forward and he is nearly 4 years old now, sadly leaving for his big school, but for sure he will miss so much the time he
spent with his pals at Funky Owls. They supported me when I needed extra days, shared concerns and supported my boy to be the best he could be. I could not recommend more.

We are only in our 3rd week for Funky Owls but so far have been really impressed by the quality of care provided for our daughter. The staff have been brilliant and earned our trust in them quickly and the range of activities meals etc appears to be good. They don't have outdoor space but this seems

Our daughter has been attending Funky Owls for 2 months now, settling in was a smooth process and all the staff are, and have been lovely. We were invited to the cafe next door which was a lovely touch whilst our daughter had some time in her room without us.
2 months in and the smiles and excitement
at drop off are so warming. She really gets excited to go to nursery. Our daughter has developed so much in the short time she's been attending Funky Owls and I'm excited to hear more songs which she's learnt before bed!

My little one is so happy going to Nursery and I can see from pick-up the other children feel the same way. From the reports we get and what we hear from the staff, the children have a range of activities every day. Feedback is really important to the management team and all concerns raised at parent

Zuzanna founded Funky Owls Nursery in July 2013 and is responsible for implementing the nursery's childcare provision. She describes herself as, "A snowboarding instructor with a passion for childcare, a love of books, a fondness for coffee with a huge attachment to family."

Emily partnered with Zuzanna in 2016 as a Co-Director, responsible for finance and business development. She describes herself as, "A mum of 4, with an addiction to coffee, WhatsApp and Netflix, dreaming of a few moments of peace."

Sharon Lee

Sharon joined Funky Owls Nursery in June 2022 as Nursery Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the setting. She describes herself as, "a calm and organised person who loves long walks in the woodlands and spending time with family."

Rahima Begum

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2022

Rahima joined Funky Owls Nursery in April 2022 as Deputy Manager and is responsible for supporting the Management team in the day-to-day running of the setting. She describes herself as, "someone with a vision and goal that’s looking to learn and grow. Counting myself lucky to be able to add more unique experiences to my journey."

Joanna Coomber

Job Title: Yews Manager (3 month - 18 month) Joined: 2023

Originally from New Zealand, Joanne joined us in July 2023 as a Level 3 practitioner and was promoted to Yews Room Leader in February 2024. She describes herself as "kind, empathic, keen to travel the world, and see and learn new things."


What makes her happy? "Seeing and spending time with my family and friends"

Federica Sollazzo

Job Title: Under 2s Manager Joined: 2014

Federica is one of our longest-standing members of the team, joining Funky Owls Nursery back in 2014. After a year in a different setting in 2018, she rejoined the company in May 2019. She describes herself as, "An enthusiastic traveller, with a passion for exploring new places and looking for the next adventure."

Vanessa Willoughby

Vanessa joined Funky Owls Nursery in April 2021 as an Early Years Educator in preschool, before being promoted to Room Leader of Willows (age 2-3) in November 2021. She describes herself as, "Fun, loud and silly; making me perfect for looking after fun, loud and silly children!"
