My son has attended Lydstep for almost three years and I've been really happy with his time there throughout, both in terms of how the staff has encouraged his development, as well as his having enjoyed it and made friends. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone with a young child seeking nursery
provision.

We, as parents are really satisfied with Lydstep Nursery. Our daughter attends here, started last year as a baby and now in the toddler room and she 99% of the times gets excited in the morning when we get ready and goes through the door with a big smile. All the staff throughout the rooms are very
friendly and caring and we couldn't be more grateful for them to help our daughter thrive and keep her excited about nursery with all the fun activities.

I would not recommend Lydstep nursery despite my daughter attending for nearly 2 years. Staff turnover was extremely high, with heavy reliance on agency staff. Although a cap on agency numbers was eventually introduced, this still took a real toll on existing staff and seemed to drive many to leave.
New staff were rarely introduced, so parents often arrived to a room of unfamiliar faces. Communication was consistently poor, especially when our baby's place-secured over a year in advance-was cancelled with only 2 months' notice due to staff shortages, forcing us to find new places for both children which with local wait lists being well over a year was a nightmare. Outdoor space was poor, we were told that regular almost daily visits to the park would happen but in reality were very rare. While the majority of the staff working with the children were kind and caring, management and admin was disorganised, the toddler room often felt chaotic, and overall the nursery was very poorly run.

My son has been going to Lydstep since he was 9 months old (now 2.5) and has generally been very happy. Credit where credit is due and most of the staff at the nursery are lovely and you get a sense they are very involved with the children.
However, I feel in recent months, things have gone downhill.
They seem to be having staffing issues & repeatedly ask parents to keep children home. If there's not enough volunteers, some children may be refused. The prices have been raised multiple times (prices displayed on this website are not correct) & often at short notice. Nursery closes twice a year, for staff training & these days are still paid for. Communication is slow and whilst they provide you with regular updates on development, important things such as your child suddenly no longer napping, or anything re potty training are often not mentioned.
My son really loves going there but for the eye-watering prices and constant cost increases, I would have expected a better service.

We are so pleased that we chose Lydstep, it's such a lovely nursery and our little boy really enjoys his days there.
The nursery was newly built in 2022, so we knew that all the facilities had been specially designed with children in mind. Our little one is in The Cottage, which has lots of montessori
toys, a sensory room, a sleeping room and an outside space. It was important to us that he has a separate place to sleep as naps are so important, and most nurseries in the area just have a 'space' in the main room with soft mats for sleeping.
We really like and appreciate all the staff, and even though it took our little one a couple of weeks to settle, we knew he was having lots of cuddles. He's now so content at nursery and every time I pick him up he seems so happy playing. The staff are brilliant and you can really tell when he comes home how much he has learnt. We love the app so we can see what has happened in his day, as well as receive updates and pictures.

Such an amazing environment with really friendly and knowledgeable staff. My little one is currently in preschool at Lydstep and the key workers are amazing at planning and setting up activities for him to learn through play and through trial and error. They also learn about the different cultures through
activities and books which I think is very important in this day and age. The team also make sure that preschoolers learn to be independent in readiness for school. I am blown away by the skills my little one has grasped and mastered since starting at Lydstep. I would definitely recommend this nursery to all parents!

We have been so impressed with the communication and dedication of the team at Lydstep. Their use of the app to keep parents and carers informed of the children’s day is exemplary - friends with children in other settings don’t get anything like the detail we do. Our daughter has some additional medicine
needed during the day which is administered without issue. The care and attention shown to the children are lovely to witness and reassure us that our little one is having a great day.

My son started to attend Lydstep in May 2023. At first, I was sure he would not stay more than half an hour, to be honest, and I thought the settling session would be hard for him.
After the first week and a few meltdowns, he was looking forward. He missed some time, even 2 weeks and still was ok when
he returned. Now, after 5 months once we enter the door I do not exist. He will go straight to play. He is at preschool and the teachers are amazing. Both of them are lovely and will do anything to make sure meet any child's needs and that I think is important. The building is new and is comfy and warm, they have numerous places with activities and every day is something new.
The park is in front of the building and because of the tall trees, in the summer you can be in the park because you have nice shade to run from the sun. About the food I cannot say much as my son only eats snacks, rarely food from them as we are not British and he is also picky with textures. I am happy I will have him here this year. Thank you.

My daughter has had a tricky time settling into the nursery, but Lydstep has been wonderful and supportive. They have plenty of activities and resources which are really age-appropriate. They are caring and kind, and genuinely want to make sure the children in their care are happy and safe. Lots of
communication from the nursery about my daughter's day and her key workers are fantastic. Would recommend!

Our child had a difficult start to nursery and has taken a long time to settle. The staff at Lydstep have been incredibly patient, kind and caring in helping them to feel more confident and happy about attending, and have often gone out of their way to reassure us as to how they are doing. It has been
lovely to see them taking part in activities with growing independence. The staff have taken the time to really get to know our child and their interests and used these to help them in feeling settled and safe. The room lead has always made time to discuss any worries we might have and they have been excellent in keeping us informed about what they have been up to in the day.

Since our son started at Lydstep Nursery we have noticed changes within his words, he is saying more and he’s just loving it there. We noticed the bond he has with the staff, especially one member of staff, he runs into her all the time. Mum knows more than me, unfortunately, I don’t get to see much
of it, but thank you for all you do for our son, it’s a pleasure to bring him to a lovely nursery filled with love and joy! Keep up the good work guys.

Amazing teachers with great approaches. So far, we received valuable support in the settling-in process. Staff always keeps us updated regarding the main insights of the day, and how the baby was doing during the day. Their app allows checking when the baby slept or had lunch. 100% recommended.

We absolutely love Lydstep Nursery and everyone who works there.
We moved our daughter here in August from another nursery due to a house move, we were nervous about moving her as she had settled so well at the old nursery but from day one she loved it.
The environment is lovely and calm, staff are
brilliant, always comforting to us and our daughter as well as really fun!
She naps well, eats well and always leaves full of energy and really chatty.
The management are brilliant, very transparent, clear communication and reassuring.
I could not recommend it highly enough! Thank you to everyone at Lydstep.

Excellent experience so far at Lydstep Nursery, our son has settled in very well having never been to nursery before. There is alot of space for toddlers with different areas to explore in a big light environment with access to a courtyard. The best thing about our experience so far is the nursery team
who are warm and welcoming and have been excellent with our son.

Current Review Score: 7.4 (7.367)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.4 (7.367) out of 10 for Lydstep Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.167 for Lydstep Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (26 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.167
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.2 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lydstep Nursery is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 134 number of registered child places is 26.8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 26.8 = 0.075
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
