A heartfelt recommendation for Linskill Nursery, North Shields

Our daughter has been part of Linskill Nursery since 2022, joining at just 14 months old and progressing through every stage with confidence, joy, and remarkable development. From her very first day, it was clear that this nursery is something special. Now, as she transitions to school, our whole family feels a deep sense of gratitude-and a touch of sadness-at leaving behind a setting that has offered so much care, safety, and support.

What truly sets Linskill apart is its incredibly nurturing environment. The staff are warm, attentive, and consistently go above and beyond to meet each child's needs. Their professionalism and compassion have earned our full trust-from the day-to-day routines to more complex transitions and milestones. The management is equally impressive, fostering a culture of care, flexibility

What a lovely nursery! Our son has been attending Linskill since January 2025 and he absolutely loves it. The staff are amazing, so caring and welcoming, and they have a great connection with the children. They are very attentative, and the children in the class always seem nice and settled. They provide good regular updates through the app which is always lovely to see. There are lots of different activities, and attending nursery seems to have supported our sons development greatly.

My daughter has been attending this nursery since the Bunnies group and is now in the Foxes group. She absolutely loves going each morning, which is a testament to the welcoming and nurturing environment the staff provide.
I've noticed remarkable progress in her development on the days she attends, from her social skills to her confidence and creativity. The staff are attentive, caring, and dedicated to ensuring each child thrives.

Thank you to the entire team for making her nursery experience so enjoyable and beneficial.

We have nothing but positive things to say about Linskill. The staff are extremely friendly, great with the children and provide a loving, warm and caring environment for everyone. I felt confident leaving my daughter here from the very first day when she was 9 months old and she has loved every minute since. The resources, access to outside space and extracurricular opportunities they provide are fantastic. We really loved it here!

Linskill is a home-from-home for my daughter. The staff are so nurturing and she felt at home straight away. They’re also so knowledgeable and direct all activities to encourage development. They regularly do outings, take the children to the garden on-site or think up creative messy play. Food is outstanding - I’m often quite jealous of her meals - and communication is exceptional. It’s so lovely getting app updates on all her activities throughout the day. Couldn’t recommend this fantastic place enough.

Linksill has been exceptionally transformative for my daughter and I cannot recommend it highly enough! After considering multiple of nurseries within the same area we decided on Linksill based on their general approach to teaching, child welfare, ethics and culture. Our daughter is always engaged, happy and confident - she is constantly learning new things and her general demeanour is bright and joyful. She's made friends and looks forward to going. In terms of teaching, there's always a variety of activities which the staff clearly put lots of effort into and encourage them to explore. They are taken out to different places and I know she's safe and happy. Communication is consistent and the quality of information shared to each parent is of a really high standard - you can tell they take the time to write about each child individually..something I know not every nursery does! The menu is varied and healthy with lots of options and the children are encouraged to try new things. Its exceptional!

Linskill Nursery is a wonderful place! Our son really blossomed during his time there. We've only just moved away a few weeks ago and he talks about the teachers and all his friends at Linskill nearly every day still.

The variety of activities and engaging play are outstanding. We loved seeing pictures and updates via their app. It really showed how involved the children and staff are in all activities.

During Christmas, our son came home and tried to teach us Christmas songs along with the corresponding sign language. It was wonderful to know they're learning skills which will be inclusive to others.

We could always sense how much the staff cared for our son and it made us feel so safe with him in their care. I wish we could've stayed in the area for many reasons and Linskill Nursery is one of them!

My little boy has been at Linskill for 2.5 years and he loves it. The staff are great and they create such fab things to do daily. My little boy particularly loved being outside and they spend a lot of time doing this, helping building, planting and learning. Wonderful experience. Looking forward to sending my youngest there.

The staff at Linskill Nursery are amazing with my little boy. They are caring and patient and I feel like they genuinely care about my child. My son has additional needs and is non-verbal, yet they always try and include him in activities. He often chooses to be on his own as he likes his own space. They always greet him warmly, call him by his name and ask all the other children to say goodbye upon leaving although he can't talk back. The other children try to comfort my little boy if he becomes upset and I think this demonstrates that the staff teach the children to be kind and include others. I was extremely nervous to put my little boy into the nursery as he struggles to communicate his needs. I one hundred percent made the right choice choosing Linskill Nursery. They have an incredibly supportive Special Education Needs Coordinator team. Their outdoor play area is great too with lots of space and things to explore.

I can't rate Linskill highly enough! My little one joined at around 9 months old having moved from another nursery and joined the Bunnies room for babies. I was nervous about how he'd settle given his sporadic napping but the staff are brilliant and met his needs with absolute ease. He loves nursery and I love knowing he is safe, happy and content whilst there. We get regular updates about his meals, activities and nap times which is great too. I would absolutely recommend it to anybody worried about leaving their little one because Linskill will make you and your child forget those worries very quickly.

My daughter has been going to the nursery since a year old (last September) the staff have been brilliant all the way through, she started in Bunnies class which is for the younger kids with naps and messy play (much rather at nursery) and soon went to Squirrels as she needed fewer naps and was toddling around more, she loves going and is excited running to grab her bag and coat. They do great food which she loves as well as outdoor play at the park and with the trees and see the ducks which she loves. I know all of this as the staff have been brilliant with taking photos of her progress and letting us know about every stage of development. Really happy with how she's getting a good start to life and enjoys getting out of the house to make friends.

Worst place ever to send your child. My child started when he was six months old and was there for roughly a year. Every other week we were getting phone calls to pick him up after an hour or so because the staff couldn’t do their job properly and he was always screaming hysterically when we picked him up. We still had to pay for the full day. Soon as my son arrived for the day the staff looked very unwelcoming and couldn’t be bothered. My son is now in a different nursery and loving it. We have never been phoned up once and he is full of smiles when we pick him up. Linskill nursery is still pestering us now with emails and phone calls so we are having to go through Citizens Advice to sort this matter out. Awful place stay clear.

Louise Cervantes Job Title: Children and Young People's Manager Joined: 2016
Louise Cervantes

Hi, I am the Children and Young People’s Manager for the Linskill Trust.

I have worked with children and families for over 20 years and an experienced playworker, childcare practitioner and family support worker.

My role is to lead the nursery as we strive to be one of the best childcare providers in the area, regularly looking for new ways to improve the offer and develop the service. As part of the Senior Management Team for the Trust, I also have responsibility for the wider Family Programme which includes Squiggles N Giggles (an activity programme for families with under 5s), and the development of the Family Support offer.

Protecting and promoting good mental health of both children and parents is one of my main motivators in this work to help ensure children are happy and healthy. I am passionate about supporting the whole family so that all children have access to a fair and equal start in life so by the time they start school, they are ready to learn and achieve. I’m really into play in the outdoors, getting out in the fresh air, particularly in a woodland type environment since being out amongst the trees and nature is proven to have a wealth of health benefits both physically and emotionally.

I have a teenage daughter who keeps me busy at home and I enjoy keeping fit (well, trying!).

Thanks

Louise

My name is Debra and I am a Nursery Manager with over 20 years experience of working in childcare.

I had a career change after having my own children, as I was amazed watching my children learn and develop and it inspired me to become an early years worker. Once in childcare, I realised that working and supporting children with additional needs was an area I wanted to pursue and after more training, I became a nursery SENCO.

I love books and feel it’s very important to introduce books to children at a very early age, a particular favourite of mine is ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’. I enjoy reading stories to the children watching their faces light up when their favourite book is chosen and listening as they join in with the story.

I have been married for over 40 years and have 2 grown-up children and when not in nursery I like to spend time with my family which includes a naughty little dog who loves getting very muddy.

Karen Kelly Job Title: Deputy Nursery Manager Joined: 2023

I have been in childcare for over 27 years in a variety of roles from Nursery Assistant right through to manager of a day nursery. Here at Linskill, I am in the role of Deputy Manager. My qualifications consist of EYP status level 6 and Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, with a wide range of additional training. I have had approximately 18 years of experience in the role of SENDCo which I thoroughly enjoyed doing. I love to read, and I make lots of story sacks for the children to enjoy as the love of books/stories starts from the Early Years. I am also creative and love making things, which I will be sharing with the preschool children on a weekly basis, passing on my skills.

I have been with my husband for 32 years, married for 24 years with 5 grown-up children.

Hi, my name is Sam and I have worked in childcare for 9 years and have a level 3 in childcare. From leaving school I knew I wanted to work with children and attended college to gain my childcare qualifications.

Working with children and babies is so rewarding, watching and helping them grow in their development. I am passionate about my work to provide support and encourage children’s learning and development.

Growing up I was around lots of children and when I became an auntie I loved watching my nieces and nephews develop from being babies and helping them along the way to achieve goals. Now I have my own little girl whom I love spending time with outside of work.

I am the Foxes room senior and the SENDCo – the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator. I have specialist training to support me in this role. It is my job to support children and their families to ensure the curriculum can be accessed by all children and that all children make progress.

I have worked in the early years sector for 12 years, previously working in schools, and have been at Linskill Nursery for 8 years

I thoroughly enjoy working in the Foxes room, each day is never the same and the children always keep me on my toes!! It is always a pleasure watching the little ones grow and develop.

In my spare time, I enjoy day trips with my boyfriend– favourite places include York and Durham, doing all the touristy things you can do on UK city breaks. I enjoy going out to eat with friends, with Tapas a firm favourite.

Ally Richardson Job Title: Early Years Practitioner Joined: 2018
Ally Richardson

Hi, my name is Ally and I have worked in childcare for over 20 years and have an NVQ level 3. I have 3 grown-up daughters and 2 grandsons.

From leaving school I knew working within a childcare environment was my vocation. I have experience of being a nanny, working in a crèche facilitating a variety of family groups, from bumps to babies to boogie bunnies. I began working in the nursery when my youngest daughter started school.

I currently work in the Owlets room. I find my job so fulfilling as our daily routine is a very busy one. Observing the children as they explore new activities with such enthusiasm is so rewarding - whether it be messy play (we do lots of that) or exploring the wild garden, learning to balance, climb and jump. The children in our care have lots of opportunities during their nursery day.

The relationships built with the children and parents and carers are so rewarding. To see the children coming into the nursery happy and smiling is wonderful, as they wave goodbye to parents and carers and begin their busy day at nursery.

I am passionate about supporting children and families with additional needs as my grandson was diagnosed with ASD in 2018, opening up a new world to me and a pathway I knew little about. I am proud to say I can help and support parents and carers through this journey and welcome any questions or enquiries at any time.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my grandsons aged 10 years and 7 years. I have a mischievous tortoise called Dave who is 7 years old and loves to give me the runaround hiding in the most hilarious places.
