Townsend Montessori Nursery Herne Bay provides a stimulating and engaging environment for children, complete with a large outdoor area for exploration. Located in the seaside town of Herne Bay, it's the perfect choice for local families. The setting follows a Montessori approach to education, which prioritises the growth and development of each child, in a supportive and engaging space designed for them to learn and thrive.

The nursery offers exceptional care, enriched by unique learning opportunities for your child. One such experience is child-friendly cooking classes, inspired by the Montessori approach, fostering meaningful connections between children and the world around them and helping to equip children with valuable skills and deeper knowledge of the cooking process.

Inside the nursery, there are two large and well-equipped rooms with a calm and cosy atmosphere, offering plenty of engaging resources and activities. The large garden outside provides a perfect space for outdoor exploration, with a forest area at the bottom of the garden, where daily outdoor play is encouraged, no matter the weather. Children can play on the climbing frame, sand and water play area and get their hands dirty in the planting area.

Babies are nurtured in the Squirrels Room, where they can freely use their imaginations through heuristic play and sensory resources, and they also have a dedicated garden space for their exploration.

Older children progress to the Hedgehogs Room, where they continue to develop their independent skills, with structured activities such as self-serving at mealtimes and Circle Time tasks. They also begin to learn the necessary skills for their transition to school, with the help of their Key Carer.

An amazing nursery. My little boy loves it and has came so far since being there. All the staff are amazing and so helpful and he really enjoys going and they have been so helpful and helping us with his potty training as well.

My son is so happy there. He eats so good and he is developing so well. The interaction with other kids is so positive for his learning. Every carer looks after him with love and respect. The parent zone app is updated every day with his routine activities and some days they upload some pictures of
him and the activiy of the day. In general, the nursery really fit our needs and we feel happy to leave him as part of our days.

My little girl attends this nursery full time. The staff are extremely attentive, professional and warm and the setting is lovely.
My daughter is really flourishing here - best decision made to send her here.
The app is also fantastic as you can follow your child’s day to see when they’ve had a nappy
change, eaten, had a sleep or my favourite, the little snapshot pictures of their day to see what they’ve been up to!

My little boy started this nursery in 2021 after he struggled to settle at another local nursery. He settled straight away and has loved it ever since, the staff know him so well and he feels safe and happy at nursery. The staff create interesting and interactive learning activities based on the children's
likes (e.g Mario, ice cream, dinosaurs) this gives the children the opportunity to bond with the other children and form friendships. My little boy has made lots of friends at his nursery and is always excited to see them, the children are taught good manners, why diversity is good and why always being kind to others is so important. This nursery has shaped my son into the chatty, comical, friendly and confident little lad that he is today - I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone and often do!

Everyone is incredibly friendly at the nursery, and my son feels safe there. He hasn’t always enjoyed going in, but the staff were great at helping him in and would always message me to let me know he was happy and settled.
I really feel it’s such a shame that the nursery has moved away from the app,
as I feel like communication has gone down a lot since, and I know the nursery finds it frustrating too. I used to love looking at what the children had been up to, especially if there was a lovely photo of my son, and I miss that a lot.

My little boy started here in March and it's such an amazing nursery, he is doing so well and the staff are absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone, really would, so happy and my little boy loves it, always asking if he is going to play school.

Staff are lovely, responsive to my baby’s needs and he has settled quickly. I was pleased that many of the staff are familiar from when my older two attended the setting last year and felt very comfortable leaving my baby in their care.

My daughter really enjoys her time at nursery. She has come so far in making friends and communicating with others. Nursery has definitely been helpful for her. I did have to have a meeting with management as I was unhappy with some things but this has been resolved.

My children look forward to going to nursery and are always happy at collection. There is lots of outside space and my preschooler is able to move freely between inside and outside which suits him perfectly. The room staff and managers are always welcoming and friendly and take time to share new skills
and highlights from my children's days. The nursery can provide all meals and snacks which was an important factor when initially viewing nurseries.

They are so caring and really know my child. My son has allergies and they ensure he is always included in everything, and I never feel worried. He eats and sleeps so well there, and always runs in!
The only thing at the moment is they’ve changed the app recently and it’s not as good, probably just
teething issues. We’re just not getting pictures throughout the day and can’t message like we used to.

I couldn’t be happier with the nursery. All the staff are so kind and friendly and really understand my son’s personality. They always keep me informed about his day on the app and give a detailed handover. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.

My son has recently started at the nursery and has underlying physical health issues along with attachment/developmental delays. The staff at the nursery have been absolutely amazing I cannot fault the care that has been provided to him so far. They have taken time to understand his every need and areas
of development they can help support with and have actioned this straight away, communication with us as parents we cannot fault and we are so pleased we made the decision to change his nursery to Townsend Montessori as already he has shown an improvement surrounding his development and attachments.

Hi! I'm Natasha, the Nursery Manager at Townsend Montessori Nursery Herne Bay. I am also qualified for NVQ Level 3.


Childcare has been my passion from a young age, ensuring each child reaches their goal and strives to do their very best with the guidance of a strong and loving team, supported in a rich and exciting environment created by us. I work closely with all that are involved with the children's day-to-day care, from parents and carers to professional involvement, enabling the very best in life for each individual child who joins our nursery family.
