Jesters' beautiful, purpose-built, cedar wood Nursery and dedicated Baby Cottage specialise in nurturing under 3s with babies and children spending their formative years focusing on care, wellbeing and learning through play. The semi-rural, intimate setting overlooks the Essex countryside; and with nature on the doorstep, offers a truly 'home away from home' feel.

Jesters Bicknacre Nursery is part of the fully integrated co-location Nursery and Nursery School set up. Once children reach pre-school age, they transfer to the exclusive Nursery School located just 5 minutes up the road in the neighbouring village of Danbury. Jesters Danbury is the 'Home of School Readiness' and capitalises on and dedicates itself to preparing pre-schoolers for the transition to primary education, operating as a distinct and exceptional satellite Nursery School.

Once children graduate to primary School, the Jesters care does not end. Back at Bicknacre, the separate Jesters ‘Kids Club’ provides breakfast, after school and holiday care for children up to 12 years of age.

My little girl has been at Jesters since April and absolutely loves it! She settled so quickly and everyone has made the transition to nursery so much easier for us both! The communication is great and we get sent regular updates and photos. She has come on leaps and bounds since starting and comes
home beaming after her days at nursery. The staff are all friendly, welcoming and genuinely care. I couldn't recommend Jesters enough!

My child has been attending Jesters since Feb 25 and they have been amazing. I am kept up to date via the app & emails. My child is happy to go in & happy when coming out. They have dealt with my child's allergy so well. I am so pleased with all of the staff at Jesters and highly recommend. The location

Both my children have been at jesters Bicknacre since the age of 10months and the experience for both has been fantastic. It feels like a home from home and they are kind, incredibly caring and accommodating. The staff are easy to build relationships with and genuinely care. My son has just completed
his jesters journey finishing up at another branch and he couldn't be any more prepared for school. Thank you Jesters, i can't recommend this setting more!

We moved into the area and viewed two nurseries. Jesters stood out immediately from their ofsted rating, to their philosophy about being outside and their friendly staff.
Our daughter has settled in immediately and loves going there. The staff really care about the children and know them individually.
We would highly recommend this nursery

Fantastic 'Come and see my Classroom' event held at Jesters this evening.
Beautiful setting, professional staff and amazing campfire led by a professional forest school educator.
So lovely to see the nursery fully set up with the lovely activities and staff around to speak with about anything, at
drop off and pick up we collect from outside so it's perfect having the opportunity to 'go inside' on this event and similar, and see where they play and learn.
Really enjoyed the homely feel in the Baby Cottage and the role play hospital in the Squirrels room.
Delicious food on offer which is the same provided to the children!
Lovely autumnal evening followed by toasting a marshmallow!

For the last three and a half years my daughter has attended Jesters Bicknacre and Preschool at Danbury. From her first steps to learning phonics, Jesters has been the most amazing place which will hold a special place in our hearts forever.
Not only do Jesters do everything they can to ensure the
children are thriving and meeting the criteria for their age, they get so many real-life experiences - going on the bus, and visits from a dentist, picnics at the parks and much more!
We could not have asked for anything more out of a nursery.

My son is absolutely thriving at Jesters Day Nursery & Pre-School after being there for a couple of months! The girls in the baby cottage are so lovely and have a great bond with him. It's also so lovely to get the updates of what he's been doing throughout the day via the app. What sold it to me was
the large outside area for the children as my son loves being outside, no matter what weather.
It's not easy to leave your baby with someone else but the staff at Jesters has made the transition so much easier and smoother, there's a real family feel there.

Wonderful nursery with exceptional staff! My baby girl is thriving at Jesters. She loves every single day there! She's come along in leaps and bounds since she started (in January). She's grown in independence and confidence. Her language skills are developing fast: she's using (and trying to say) more
words, and her vocabulary is widening. Her days are both fun-filled and educational. This is thanks to the phenomenal team of highly skilled practitioners. I don't have the words to describe the dedication, warmth, positivity and thoughtfulness of this team. They've exceeded my expectations in every way! Communications with parents are excellent (in person, via the app, over the phone). The team has gone above and beyond to welcome and support us (e.g. with settling in). We feel like family. My baby girl clearly feels loved and well cared for. Her bonds with staff are strong. This is a special nursery in many ways. But for me, the staff make the setting, and here the staff are truly outstanding.

My daughter started at Jesters in October 2022 at 9 months old, and I could not have wished for her to have had a better start! She has settled in so quickly and made so much progress, and I know that is down to the hard work and amount of care from the staff. They were more than happy to follow our
home routines and give regular contact throughout the day through the app, and at drop off and collection, they always update us on how her day has been!
She has never been upset or worried to go in - she even cheers when she realises we are in the car park!
I couldn't recommend Jesters enough - I feel incredibly lucky to have found such a lovely nursery for my daughter!

My son has been at Jesters now for nearly 9 months and I am very satisfied with the way he is cared for. We are all protective of our children and I feel he is really looked after here and most importantly safe. His development is logged via the app so we are updated constantly which in modern times
is extremely helpful. I must say a particular thank you to my son's key person at Jesters as our son seems to have created a special bond with her and it seems she is genuinely interested in his development which is nice to see as a parent. All the staff are great and we are always greeted with a smile. Looking after children is a tough task and I am thankful that we have found a place like Jesters that do it so well.

My daughter started this nursery in July 2020 when the nursery re-opened following Covid. I was really apprehensive as she was very upset leaving me and had been nicely settled in her previous nursery, but the staff worked really well to make sure she was settled and adjusted and kept in contact with
me, so I knew she was okay once I had left.
The communication on the apps is great - and something I never had with my son at his previous nursery - so this was a huge plus to me when we moved her here as it is great to be able to see what she has been doing all day and what she has eaten.
She absolutely loves coming to nursery and seeing her friends, as well as the teachers, and they have helped so much with starting to be ready to go to school, and she will be sad to leave in August.
Thank you to all of the team, and will always recommend you to any friends if they are looking for a nursery.

My wife and I couldn’t be happier with Jesters. It’s a lovely small nursery with small numbers of children, and the outdoor space is wonderful. We actually drive quite a distance for our son to attend Jesters. We’ve been able to have conversations with staff around our son’s learning plan, and he has
a lovely relationship with not only his key worker but the other staff too. He always comes home telling us about what he did and showing us the yoga moves he has learned. The menus there seem to be really nutritious and so varied. Our son has been at Jesters since the end of 2020, and all through Covid restrictions and requirements, I feel it was managed really well.

Our daughter is very happy at Jesters. She has been going since she was a baby and is going to school next term. Our other baby is going there too into the new baby room. The staff are fantastic, and we have never had any problems which makes us feel safe that our child is very well cared for and learning
lots of new things every day. The nursery buildings are lovely, and it's just like a children's village as all the buildings are around big central gardens next to fields, so they get to play out in the fresh air every day in a safe and natural environment.

Unfortunately, I have just removed both of my children from Jesters. Their standards have fallen below what I deem acceptable, especially in relation to the fees being charged. There have been several staffing changes which have meant that at one point my daughter had 5 different 'key workers' in just
5 months. Since we joined in August 2020, only 3 staff members remain. Moreover, I do not feel the staff considered my son's needs when changing his key worker just 3 months before he is due to start school. The teachers work hard and we have been appreciative of their individual efforts. There is a good variety of food offered but this has been inconsistent over time. The car park is a nightmare at drop-off and pick-up times.My experience with the management (both senior and at the setting level) has been poor. I tried to stick with the nursery as long as I could because the idea of changing was overwhelming but I wish we had left months ago. There is much better out there.

Our daughter has been attending Jesters Day Nursery since November 2021, and we couldn't be happier with our decision. I was really apprehensive initially, but our daughter has settled in so well and enjoys her time there. She is always happy at drop off and collections and loves her nursery teacher.
The baby nook is a fantastic space, and they have a wonderful outdoor area. All the staff are so kind and caring, which makes it that little bit easier knowing they are so well looked after. Our daughter's confidence has come on leaps and bounds since starting, which is amazing to see. We couldn't recommend Jesters more!

I joined the Jesters team back in 2016 and have worked my way up through various positions to the Bicknacre Nursery Manager, sharing the role alongside Jessica and am also Servicewide Compliance Manager overseeing all Jesters settings.


Outside work
As well as my full time job at Jesters I am a qualified personal trainer and fitness instructor and work alongside my brother at The Mobile PT. I completed my qualification in 2018 following my own fitness journey at Bootcamp. In my free time I enjoy socialising with friends, spending time with my family and watching Musicals.


Favourite children’s book
As a child I really enjoyed reading the Tracy Beaker collection. Now I have two nieces, I enjoy reading to them and we enjoy sharing the Julia Donaldson books together, in particular The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child.

Background
Hello my name is Jessica, I am the Nursery Manager, alongside Becky, here at our Bicknacre site. My career within the childcare sector started in 2012 upon completing my Level 3 qualification. In 2017 I progressed and achieved my Level 5 Diploma in Childcare and Management whilst holding a Room leader role and have since worked my way to Nursery Manager.


The Jesters Family
Since returning to Jesters after a career break and the birth of my 1st daughter in September 2023 and have gravitated back to that feel of belonging. My own childhood was magical and I wish to offer those unique experiences with the ethos and opportunities I’m invested in.


Outside work
Socialising with friends, coffee meet ups and baby groups have become my new hobbies and I cherish every moment! I have a Chihuahua called Wills who loves to be spoilt, and why shouldn’t he!?


Favourite children’s book
My favourite book, again relating back to my childhood is The Famous Five collection by Enid Blyton. The imagination, adventures, family feel and challenges bring lots of excitement and wonder.

Hello, I’m Rachel, Head of Education at Jesters. I have over 12 years of experience in childcare and education and have taught in both nursery and school settings. I am passionate about child development and will always go above and beyond to ensure that all children are provided with exceptional learning and care opportunities.


I am part of the leadership teams at all Jester's settings. My role is to shape education and the curriculum across the service. I have Early Years Professional status.


I love helping children develop and grow and often seek inspiration from one of my favourite quotes “Do not compare your child to others, there’s no comparison between the sun and the moon. They shine when it’s their time” – I look forward to helping the children shine.

Hello, I am Hollie, the Servicewide Nursery School & Curriculum Lead developing and nurturing our Jesters pre-schoolers. I have always had an immense passion for helping others and making a difference, and because of this, I always knew I wanted to work with children, positively impacting their lives and helping them thrive and learn.


Growing up, I always admired my teachers and couldn’t wait until I could inspire other young children too. I completed my University Degree in Early Years and Primary Education and QTS Qualifications, and have been working in childcare and education since 2014. I have loved every minute and continue to do so here at Jesters.
