We have had nothing short of an amazing experience with Essex day nursery. My son is now 4 and has been at the nursery from 14 months old. It has been such a positive experience for him and I am forever grateful for all the support, kindness and love the staff have shown him from day one. He always
runs to the door and is always excited to go to nursery/pre-school and has made wonderful friendships since being there. The activities the children get to take part in ie Forest School are so valuable and he adores being a part of it. He is such a confident and happy boy and Essex Day Nursery have played a vital role in that!

It is clear to see how supported, happy, and confident he has become as he greets us every morning with big smiles; excited and eager to start his day with his nursery friends, and it's clear to see that he truly enjoys experiences like Forest School.

Thank you also for your kind words about our staff's care, kindness, and dedication-they will be so touched to hear this.

We have changed to this nursery after trial and error with other local settings and couldn't be happier. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming, the food menu is well thought through and open to suggestions, and the kids have the most wonderfully adventurous yet safe surroundings. Also really love
the small groups that progress together meaning our little one is likely to start school with some of her besties.
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for your lovely review. We're really pleased to hear that you've found a home with us and that your experience since joining has been such a positive one.

It means a great deal to know that our team's warm and welcoming approach, our carefully planned menus, and our adventurous yet safe environments have stood out to you. We also love seeing the strong friendships form within our small, consistent groups-it's so special knowing those bonds can continue as the children move on to school together.

We have used this nursery for both of our children and are extremely happy with it! The staff are all knowledgeable and professional but also very warm and friendly. Furthermore they have a great ratio of older/more experienced workers and younger workers that I think makes for fantastic teams.

Their

forest school is great for older little ones, too, and they learn so much about nature and to be hardy in all weathers!

They supported my shy son as he came out of his shell, and are now supporting my chatty daughter as she grows into a toddler. If I were to have another child I wouldn't think twice about which nursery I'm choosing. I have no doubt this is one of the best, if not the best, nurseries in the area!!

If I have a single complaint is that it ca be hard to find a spot!! But that's just testament to how good they are. Get in the waiting list, you won't regret it.

Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for your wonderful review and for choosing us for both of your children-it truly means a great deal to us. We are so pleased to hear how happy you feel and that our team's mix of experience, professionalism, and warmth has made such a positive impact for your family.

It's lovely to hear how our forest school has supported your children's learning and confidence, and that we've been able to nurture your son as he found his voice and now support your daughter as she grows. Watching each child develop in their own way is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

I cannot fault the care my child receives at Wivenhoe Day Park Nursery. The level of care from her key person feels more like a family connection than childcare. Theodora shows my child a love and warmth that genuinely mirrors my own, and that means everything to me as a parent.

All of the ladies

speak so highly of my daughter, whether it's how funny she is, how confident her walking has become, or how bright her personality is. It honestly sometimes makes me wonder if she ever plays up while she's there!

The nursery has instilled such confidence in my child. She has never cried at drop-off; instead, she happily waves at the staff, all of whom (very impressively) know her by name despite the number of children they care for.

I have never once doubted that this is the right place for my child, and I feel incredibly grateful for the love, reassurance and care they provide every single day. Thank you Poppy room and Theodora.

Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for sharing such a beautiful review. Your words mean the world to us, and we are incredibly grateful for the trust you place in our team every day.

Building those secure, family-like connections is at the heart of what we do, and we're so pleased your daughter feels happy, confident, and safe with us.

We love to see her arrive with smiles and waves for everyone, and that her confidence continues to grow, is exactly what we hope for every child

My daughter absolutely loves going to this nursery, we couldn't be happier that she's in such a caring and creative environment. She's been thriving because of all the wonderful activities they do every day, has made so many friends and adores the staff. They also have additional things which mean so
much to my daughter, such as story sacks with books and accompanying toys, and a library where the children can borrow books to take home. Highly recommend WPDN!!
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for your lovely review and recommendation. We are happy to hear how much your daughter enjoys coming to nursery and that she is thriving in our caring and creative nursery environment.

It's wonderful to know that she has built strong friendships and feels such a close connection with our staff-that really is at the heart of everything we do. We're also so pleased that the extra touches, like our story sacks and lending library, mean so much to her. Encouraging a love of books and learning at home as well as at nursery is something we truly value.

Thank you again for your kind words and support. We feel very lucky to have your family as part of the WPDN community

As parents and as a student who is juggling school with parenthood, we couldn't be happier with Wivenhoe Day Nursery. From the moment you walk through the door, you can feel how caring, welcoming, and nurturing the environment is. The staff are absolutely wonderful, kind, attentive, and genuinely passionate
about the children and their development.
The nursery provides a fantastic balance of learning, play, and creativity, helping each child grow in confidence while feeling safe and supported. Communication with parents is excellent, and it's so reassuring to know that every child is treated as an individual and truly valued.
It's clear that a lot of thought and love goes into everything they do, from engaging activities to emotional wellbeing. My daughter has been attending for 18 months and we couldn't be happier. Staff are conscientious and caring. Facilities are warm, safe and engaging. The curriculum is clear but not too onerous, just learning thru play and discovery. There's plenty of nutritious food that our toddler enjoys seconds of
most days.
A clearly well managed and valued workplace with low staff turnover and key workers who genuinely care about your children.
I am happy to trust everyone at Wivenhoe Park day nursery with my most precious people in the world and that's a very high bar.

My 4-year-old daughter loves WPDN so much, she enjoys going to school and after school, she tells me all about her day. The teachers and management are amazing. We get updates on her everyday activities through word of mouth and the app which is very cool. We get to engage with them. She tells us her
school friends are all great and she likes playing and learning with them. It is a great experience for her and she is happy. She learnt a lot here since she started in January 2023, she can talk confidently and knows potty very well. We are forever grateful for the nursery and the staff. It is indeed a wonderful nursery and we have been fortunate enough to get her in. She likes everything about her nursery and forest school is a hit.
We highly recommend WPDN

My little boy absolutely loves Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery. The staff are all very welcoming and have established great relationships with my boy since day one. The nursery offers great outdoor space to explore and a range of indoor activities suitable for each age bracket. I would highly recommend Wivenhoe
Park Day Nursery to anyone thinking of joining.
Reply from Faith Grainger, Marketing Officer at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you for your very kind review. We are very proud of how well the children have settled over the past 2 years during the pandemic, many parents have not been able to come into the nursery but we tried our best to involve parents as much as possible with garden visits and plenty of uploads on the online journal. The children have amazed us with their confidence and resilience.

We are also very lucky to have such a large outdoor space! We are an outdoor learning nursery and it’s the reason many of our parents choose us.

I couldn't be happier with the nursery! My son is so happy to go there. I am very happy with the range of activities on offer and especially the outdoor space/focus on nature etc. I love that he comes home having spent the day in a safe, happy and supportive environment where he has had the chance to
develop in different ways - whether through his own choice of play or other activities on offer. He gets to do so many things he would never do at home. The staff are amazing! My son has grown in confidence and in many other ways. I also feel supported by their advice etc.
Reply from Faith Grainger, Marketing Officer at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review. We have shared your kind words with the team and it has given them all a big boost (and made them blush a little as we re-iterate how proud we are of them all). We are always thinking up new ways to keep the children at nursery interested in their play environments and we get just as excited about staging those opportunities in preparation for the children’s enjoyment just as the children do themselves playing together. Never a dull moment that’s for sure.

We've had our son in nursery now just two weeks and we have been very happy so far - and so has he! He has bonded with his carers very quickly and can't wait to see them each day. The carers are very warm with him and also do a good job of keeping us in the loop. We appreciate both our verbal updates
at pickup and the daily written reports. Mom stops by to breastfeed when she's on campus, which is a really nice option! It's helped them both transition from being together all the time.

Both of my boys have attended Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery and had brilliant experiences. The staff are friendly and caring and work so hard to provide a stimulating environment. Reply from Dawn Saunders, Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you for taking the time and making the effort to leave us this lovely review. I think this pandemic has reminded us all about the importance of our communications with parents as we are always looking for new ways to keep you updated about nursery life. It is also important to us that we continue to find new ways to show that we are listening carefully so that we can learn about your child, your family and what life is like for them outside of nursery in order to get a holistic understanding of the best ways in which to offer care. Both of your boys are great fun and excellent company. They especially love the outdoors and we enjoy exploring and learning together.

Due to Covid, my 19-month-old daughter has had no interaction with baby groups, other children or socialising in any way. I was so nervous bringing her to the nursery as I wasn't sure how she was going to be leaving me and being around other people. Her key worker in Daisy room is amazing with her and
due to the understanding and care given to my daughter, she loves going to nursery, it seems. I always get the reports through on time with what has been eaten and what she has done and they really do look after the children so well. I would highly recommend this nursery if you are looking for somewhere to leave your child and have peace of mind that they are having fun and a good time.
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you for taking the time to leave this lovely review and for recommending us. I have shared this with the Daisy team – such feedback is great for boosting staff morale! Having so much time at home has caused many parents to be anxious about leaving their child at nursery, especially as they have only had their parent for company and stimulation within the same four walls 24/7 (thanks to Covid). I try to offer reassurances that the children will settle as I see lots of happy, content children. But your review really helps to show other parents feeling a similar way to you. The children are all settling well into nursery life and seem to thoroughly enjoy the company of the other children the same age as them. There is so much to do at the nursery in their child-centred world and it doesn’t take long at all to calm and distract a child that arrives a little tearful, to begin with. Soon enough they are happy to wave goodbye at the door and know you will return later.

Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery has been so wonderful for my daughter. She absolutely loves nursery and all of the staff. She has such a special relationship with her key worker too which has been one of the main reasons why she enjoys it so much. Staff always go above and beyond, and communication between
nursery and home has always been excellent. Fantastic nursery. The staff makes it what it is. The outdoor space is also amazing and the Forest School facility.
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you for taking the time to send us a wonderful review. We too value the role of a child’s key person and know what a difference it can make if that relationship works well. If we notice a special bond with a staff member and a child, we always try our very best to allocate that staff member to the child as a key person. We feel blessed to have the great team and wonderful nursery surroundings that we do and try to make the most of them in every way we can. We will be very sad to see your daughter leave us next year as she starts the next chapter of her childhood at ‘big school’, but we know she will be ready and raring when the time comes!

My son loves attending Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery. He has attended since he was 6-months-old. The staff there are brilliant, caring, and attentive. The range of activities is imaginative, creative and educational and the biggest bonus is the location - all of that outside space in nature: a lake, park,
and woodlands - on top of dedicated excellent gated play areas for the children (by age group) with fountains, and mud kitchens, and sandpits. They keep pets, and chickens, and collect the eggs and the nursery has a fantastic multi-cultural ethos - so celebrating Diwali is as normal as Christmas, and counting in Spanish, as normal as English. I am very pleased my son has a place here.
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryWow, thank you very much, Sharon, for our glowing review, it is so kind of you to take the time out to submit this for us. We are glad you are pleased with the nursery care and the facilities we offer. We do what we can to ensure all the children feel included and just as comfortable to play and learn as they would at home with you. Our nursery pets love all the fuss they get from the children too - we are sure! The Pre-school room is just about to gain some new tropical fish to have in their calm area as they make a great opportunity for discussion and distraction with all their bright colours and gentle movements.

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.945 for Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (568 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 600 Ratings = 4.945
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery is based on 50 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 132 number of registered child places is 26.4, which has been reached with 50 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Early Years Practice Manager Joined: 2016

I have worked in a variety of early years settings throughout my career, most recently taking on the role of Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery. I am a qualified early years teacher with over 7 years of experience working with the early years. I have a passion for learning through play, allowing children to take risks and make their own decisions as they question and understand the world around them.
I lead the implementation and delivery of the early years foundation stage (EYFS) working in partnership with practitioners and parents to ensure that children learn and develop the broad range of skills and knowledge that provide the right foundation for future progress through school and life. I am passionate about developing strong relationships with parents and understanding the needs of the individual children who attend our setting.
I keep up to date with new research and any changes in Ofsted regulations and I am an agent for change. I support the staff of Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery to develop their practice in order to offer excellent provision for all children, as well as also supporting the implementation of the pupil premium grant to support economically deprived children within our setting.
Developing outstanding care and education is at the forefront of all we (the management team) do here at Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery.

Job Title: Business Manager Joined: 2019

I am the Business Manager for the nursery, this role ensures the smooth running of the nursery, maintaining records, policies adhered to and that we are compliant with Ofsted and other regulations. I also work on ensuring the nursery remains an integral part of both the University and the local community that surrounds us, so that families find us accessible and welcoming.
My professional heritage includes training and working in early years environments all of my life. I have been an Area Manager for the government funded Children’s Centres for 15 of those years, forming partnerships with families from all over North East Essex. I have two children of my own that are growing up fast and I’ve spent time trying to juggle work and family and understand the challenges this can bring. In one of my previous roles I was privileged to be present at the birth of a baby and do not underestimate the absolute honour it is to be in a position now to care for your baby (they remain our baby’s no matter how big they grow). I understand that parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world, I want you to feel confident about leaving your child here in our care and if you ever feel you would like to discuss your child’s progress or even just tell me about what they did at the weekend, my door will be open.
From the perspective of the nursery, as a management team we remain committed to continuous development and feel passionate about fresh ideas and ways to build on what we do to set us apart from the rest, creating an atmosphere that is caring and positive. Our whole team ethos ensures our dedication to achieving outstanding care and development is achieved for every child, so that when they reach the time they need to go off to school, that they do so with confidence and independence with you safe in the knowledge of the sound investment you have made in their early days.
