My son, who is now 18 months old, has been at this nursery since he was 9 months old, and he has also been attending a second nursery (due to scheduling constraints!) since 12 months. He gets on well at both, but he is far more cheerful and enthusiastic about attending Wivenhoe Park. He has a lovely
bond with the staff, and we are so pleased to read his daily reports from his key person Lodie - she puts such personal details into them and we can definitely tell she's writing about our boy! He surprises us with new skills, words and behaviours every day which we haven't taught him so he must have picked them up at nursery! We're hoping to move him fully to Wivenhoe Park in due course, and can't wait to see him thrive even more!

My daughter loves going to Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery. The staff are brilliant and really go the extra mile to make it a fun and educational environment. The outside space is great and it's lovely to see her playing in the garden when I pick her up in summer. I would highly recommend choosing this nursery.

Overall, we believe that our daughter's experience at the nursery has been great. The use of different learning material, as well as the skills she has been thought are great and for sure supported her into further developing the values we have been encouraging her to practice, a confident sociable
and caring child.
Receiving the daily report is very valuable in our opinion as it helps us understand her progress and follow what has been encouraged there too. We find the staff very helpful and her key person/persons in particular very caring and loving. And that for sure has helped her spend her hours happily at the nursery away from parents and home. Thank you for the love and support you sre giving to our children.

We have two children at Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery and couldn't be happier with the care they receive. Our eldest has come on leaps and bounds since starting 2 and a half years ago, thanks to the amazing opportunities the children are offered, the dedication of the staff, and the cooperation and relationship
they've built with our family. We are always astonished at how every staff member seems to know the name and parents of every child! The relationship our daughter has formed with each of her key workers has been beautiful. They've helped us reach milestones and overcome hurdles, and are always just as excited as us when we achieve one of these. They've made the transition from one room to the next really smooth, and she's settled quickly each time. We were so excited for our youngest to start a few months ago as we are confident he'll have a similar experience, and can't wait to see what his years at the nursery bring.

Our little girl has been attending WPDN for a year and we could not have chosen a better place! The staff are always caring, patient, and organize the most exciting and fun activities for the children (both indoors and outside in the garden). Our daughter has truly flourished since starting at WPDN.
She has become more sociable and confident, and has learned so many new things. When we drop her off she smiles while waving goodbye, and we know she is in great hands.
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for sharing your lovely review. We're pleased to see that your daughter has been so happy and confident since starting at nursery over the past year despite how shy she tries to be when she arrives, it doesn't take long until she gets stuck in to play with her nursery friends and the staff team.

Seeing her smile and wave at drop-offs to the room is exactly the reassurance we hope every parent experiences, and it's heartwarming to hear that you feel she is in great hands.

Thank you again for your trust and for letting us be part of your daughter's journey - it's a privilege to watch her grow.

Since my daughter started the nursery in January 2026, she has been having a great time and enjoys every bit of it. She looks forward to going to nursery every day and sometimes reminds her mum and me of nursery. The staff there (all of them that I have had dealings with ) are very lovely and kind.
I particularly like the engagement activities for the kids. I have seen significant improvement over a couple of weeks since my daughter started the nursery.
A fantastic place.

This nursery is just the best!! My daughter went from the age 2 and my son now goes, his 3 but started at the age of 2 also. Firstly the staff and manager Dawn are amazing!! The staff are attentive to the children, kind, caring and always happy. The children are always doing so much, they take them
for walks, lots of outside play, they have an excellent forest school. They taught my daughter how to write her name before she started school. They really prepared her for school which was great so the transition was easy. The food is amazing such variety and all home cooked. The nursery is always clean. This is defo the best nursery ever. My daughter and son both went to different nurseries before this one and nothing compares as too how good it is. Not forgetting the amazing outside space and also the surrounding grounds at the uni.
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for sharing such a glowing review! We are absolutely delighted to hear that both your gorgeous children have had such positive experiences at our nursery.

It's wonderful to hear that our team, have made such a lasting impression with their care, attentiveness, and kindness. We're also so pleased that you appreciate the variety of our home-cooked meals (the Chef will be pleased to get a mention), the cleanliness of the nursery, and the beautiful outdoor spaces both within the nursery and across the university grounds. Creating a safe, engaging, and inspiring environment for children is at the heart of what we do, and it's incredibly rewarding to hear that it has made such a difference for your family.

My daughter is in the Buttercup room and will be soon moving on and I can't explain how grateful I am to the team for not just caring for her, but building a strong connection with her! I know she will deeply miss the team and so will I! Most days she wakes up telling us she's off to nursery when in
fact she isn't, and it gives me comfort knowing it's somewhere she wants to be, really removes that mum guilt! She is so ahead of her milestones for a 2 year old and the team play a huge part in that.
On another note, another thing I love asides from the team in buttercup is genuinely the experience from even walking in. The security on the door knowing my child is protected and the friendly faces when you enter the building makes a huge difference. The environment is clean and colourful, perfect for little ones to enjoy. All round 10/10 for everyone in the team.
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for sharing such a lovely review. We are incredibly grateful for your kind words and for allowing us to be part of your daughter's journey in the Buttercup room.

It truly means the world to hear about the strong connections she has built with the team and how much she loves coming to nursery it feels a huge compliment. Please trust that she will enjoy her time in the next room just as much, despite how bittersweet this next step feels, and please know that she will be deeply missed by the Buttercup team, who have clearly loved caring for and supporting her.

We're also so proud to hear about how well she is progressing and reaching her milestones, it's wonderful to know this has helped ease that "mum guilt" - that reassurance means everything.

Once again, thank you again for your trust, your gratitude, and your incredibly kind words for the nursery.

WPDN is a wonderful, nurturing and positive learning environment for my children and others. My first child attended from 2020 (from 10 months) just after the peak of the pandemic, and the team have been nothing but amazing, even through adverse times, showing excellent communication on all areas.

My

daughter has been through each stage, now school, and she loved going to nursery everyday and we have been fully supported with everything, consistency with potty training, proactive support for some social and emotional needs from the SENCO Teresa. There is amazing SEN support that is fully inclusive. My son is also having a wonderful experience.

We have consistently been impressed across all areas such as the app updates, termly reports and excellent engagement from the finance and the admin team with support navigating the early years funding options.

They nursery go above and beyond what they need to and I am so grateful for this positive and safe experience with both children.

Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for taking the time to share such a wonderful review. We are incredibly grateful for your continued trust in the nursery.
It means a great deal to hear that our communication, consistency, and care helped provide reassurance and stability during the pandemic period and beyond.

We're pleased to hear your daughter's positive progression through each stage of the nursery and her transition to school, which we are sure she is enjoying now. Your kind words about the SEN support, particularly Teresa's proactive and inclusive approach, is so appreciated. We're equally delighted that your son is now enjoying his own positive experience with us.

Early years funding can be a bit of a minefield to navigate for parents, so we are thankful for including the admin team in your review. We do our best to help parents chose the most cost-effective ways to use your funding and glad we made that work for you.

Our daughter started at this nursery when she was just 9 months old and is now 3, approaching 4. In that time, the care, support and development she has received has been nothing short of exceptional.

As she grew, it became clear she needed extra understanding and support, and throughout her journey

towards an autism diagnosis, the nursery has been outstanding. They have been patient, proactive, and genuinely caring every step of the way. She has been supported as an individual, encouraged to develop at her own pace, and treated with warmth, dignity and respect.

The staff are incredible across the board. From reception, to the room teams, through to management, everyone is approachable, knowledgeable and clearly invested in the children they care for. Communication has always been clear and supportive, and we've always felt listened to and included as parents.

Most importantly, our daughter feels safe, understood and happy there - and that means everything to us.

My little one has been attending Wivenhoe Day Park nursery since he was 9 months old and I could not have wished for a better place for him to be. Over the last months I've seen my child thrive under the care and attention of the nursery staff. The staff are so kind, experienced and generous - just
what I'd hope for when leaving a big part of the care of my little on in their hands. I also feel very well informed on what happens at the nursery, for instance the activities they do, and I like the transparency they offer. Also - my child follows a vegetarian diet which has been fully accommodated and my child loves their meals and gets seconds. A great place to develop alongside peers - and it's a home away from home!

When I first looked into nurseries for my eldest I was a bit apprehensive about placing him somewhere. However very quickly I realised placing him at Wivenhoe Park day nursery was the best choice I could have made. He loved every minute of being there and now my youngest is enjoying the nursery also.

My son is under the amazing care of Gemma whom has a beautiful presence and it is so clear to see how much she both cares for and adores the children in her room. Every day I am met with lots of enthusiasm around the day my child has had, their achievements and Gemma communicates outstandingly when it comes to any 'toddler issues' that may have occurred during the day. Likewise Sadaat has shown so much kindness to my son and it's so lovely to see how all of the staff really understand him and his character, and enjoy seeing him progress as a little person and enjoy play.

The nursery has fantastic outdoor settings which is essential for two boys that love exploring outdoors.

My cousins, aunt, sister and myself went here as kids and now my son! He was 5 months when he started and has been attending for a few months now. I honestly have no bad words to say about this nursery. They feel like family! From the second you walk in the door you're greeted with a warm smile from
the ladies on the desk who are always happy to answer any questions or have a chat.
Kate has been amazing over the winter months, bringing in the prams for the kids and parents so that they aren't all cold for pick ups.
The ladies in poppy (my son's room) are so friendly and always seem so happy and proud to be there especially Ffion who also makes the cutest end of day report notes! I love to read them!
The chefs are amazing at making a diverse range of meals found all over the world so all the kids can be included! They also always make a dairy free version of all meals so my son can still have the same as everyone else.
Thank you to everyone at the nursery for all you do!

We have had a wonderful experience with this nursery and couldn't recommend it highly enough. Our son attended until August 2025 and received exceptional care that supported his confidence, independence, and school readiness. The forest school sessions were a real highlight, offering thoughtful outdoor
learning in the university grounds.

Our nearly three-year-old daughter currently attends and absolutely loves it. She is happy, settled, and excited to go each day. The nurturing environment, consistent care, and wide range of activities-especially dancing with Charlotte-have greatly supported her development.

Communication with parents is excellent, with daily updates via the app, photos, videos, and detailed termly reports. The nursery is warm, welcoming, and run by a genuinely caring team. We feel very lucky to have found such a supportive and inspiring nursery.

I cannot recommend Wivenhoe Park highly enough. The care, understanding and dedication shown to my child, who has SEN challenges, has been exceptional.

The staff, and particularly the SENCO and his key worker, have gone above and beyond to truly understand my child's needs and to create the right

environment for him to thrive. They have supported not only his development, but also me as a parent, working with care, patience and compassion. At times, the level of commitment and advocacy shown has been incredibly moving.

Over the past year I have seen such meaningful progress in my child's speech, confidence, learning and readiness for school, and a great deal of this is down to the passion and expertise of the staff.

Beyond this, the nursery itself is a wonderful setting, with a beautiful outdoor space and forest school experiences that have allowed my child to learn through nature, exploration and play. I will be very sad when he leaves, but I feel incredibly grateful to everyone.

We couldn't be happier with this nursery. Our daughter, now 4, has been with them since she was just 3 months old, and the care, attention, and support she receives have been exceptional. When searching for a nursery, we visited around 10, but chose this one because the children genuinely looked the
happiest.

We love the international environment, the bright, purpose-built spaces, and the continuity of staff - many full-time staff work 40 hours across four days, so we usually hear from the same person about how our daughter's day has gone. She especially enjoys Forest School sessions and walks on the university campus, which make learning fun and engaging. The administrative side is excellent too, with prompt emails and clear updates.

We wholeheartedly recommend this nursery to any parent looking for a nurturing, professional, and inspiring environment.

I have had both my children go through Wivenhoe Park Day nursery and I will be absolutely gutted when my youngest "graduates" this August. Wivenhoe Park has ensured that both my children have had the absolute best care and attention away from myself and their dad that I could possibly ask for. Both
of them have thrived in the nursery since day one, I have always felt that staff take the time to get to know the children and what they love/like and encourage them to be the very best version of themselves. We get regular updates, and the activities they encourage the children to do have always gone above and beyond. When my daughter graduated in 2023, as an August baby she was a young school starter, but she found the transition completely fine and her new teachers commented on how "school ready" she was. The nursery foster independence in the children, while maintaining the balance of a helping, comforting hand when they need it. I salute the wonderful staff and thank them!
Reply from Dawn Saunders, Senior Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day NurseryThank you so much for your amazing and thoughtful review. We feel truly honoured to have cared for both of your children and to have been part of their early years journey. It's wonderful to hear that they have thrived and felt supported from day one, and that our team's approach has made such a positive impact.

We're especially delighted to hear that your daughter's transition to school went so smoothly and that her teachers noticed how "school ready" she was-that's exactly what we hope for every child as they leave us as the very best versions of themselves. We will miss you all after August but feel certain your son is ready for his next adventure too!

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 50 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.945 for Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (568 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 600 Ratings = 4.945
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery is based on 50 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 132 number of registered child places is 26.4, which has been reached with 50 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Early Years Practice Manager Joined: 2016

I have worked in a variety of early years settings throughout my career, most recently taking on the role of Nursery Manager at Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery. I am a qualified early years teacher with over 7 years of experience working with the early years. I have a passion for learning through play, allowing children to take risks and make their own decisions as they question and understand the world around them.
I lead the implementation and delivery of the early years foundation stage (EYFS) working in partnership with practitioners and parents to ensure that children learn and develop the broad range of skills and knowledge that provide the right foundation for future progress through school and life. I am passionate about developing strong relationships with parents and understanding the needs of the individual children who attend our setting.
I keep up to date with new research and any changes in Ofsted regulations and I am an agent for change. I support the staff of Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery to develop their practice in order to offer excellent provision for all children, as well as also supporting the implementation of the pupil premium grant to support economically deprived children within our setting.
Developing outstanding care and education is at the forefront of all we (the management team) do here at Wivenhoe Park Day Nursery.

Job Title: Business Manager Joined: 2019

I am the Business Manager for the nursery, this role ensures the smooth running of the nursery, maintaining records, policies adhered to and that we are compliant with Ofsted and other regulations. I also work on ensuring the nursery remains an integral part of both the University and the local community that surrounds us, so that families find us accessible and welcoming.
My professional heritage includes training and working in early years environments all of my life. I have been an Area Manager for the government funded Children’s Centres for 15 of those years, forming partnerships with families from all over North East Essex. I have two children of my own that are growing up fast and I’ve spent time trying to juggle work and family and understand the challenges this can bring. In one of my previous roles I was privileged to be present at the birth of a baby and do not underestimate the absolute honour it is to be in a position now to care for your baby (they remain our baby’s no matter how big they grow). I understand that parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world, I want you to feel confident about leaving your child here in our care and if you ever feel you would like to discuss your child’s progress or even just tell me about what they did at the weekend, my door will be open.
From the perspective of the nursery, as a management team we remain committed to continuous development and feel passionate about fresh ideas and ways to build on what we do to set us apart from the rest, creating an atmosphere that is caring and positive. Our whole team ethos ensures our dedication to achieving outstanding care and development is achieved for every child, so that when they reach the time they need to go off to school, that they do so with confidence and independence with you safe in the knowledge of the sound investment you have made in their early days.
