My daughter was born 8 weeks early and she has been attending Banana Moon Day Nursery since she was 7 months old. She is now 21 months old and she loves going to nursery. She has been a bit unsettled recently when dropping her off as there has been a change of routine at home but she is quickly comforted
and reassured and always comes home smiling. She is developing and growing so well, we can certainly see the influence it makes on her development now that she attends the nursery. The staff are always smiling and caring which is also so lovely to see, therefore I would highly recommend Banana Moon Day Nursery in St Albans.

As a mother of two autistic boys, the nursery and the staff helped me a lot. They work so hard with learning his new things. Try to feel welcome and comfortable here. The nursery applied for EHPC play for my boys, for that, I am extremely thankful.

My son started Banana Moon during the lockdown, and I could not be happier with how the staff made me feel at ease and settle him in. They are all so welcoming, and no job is too much. You are all amazing.

My son always comes home from nursery in a bubbly mood and often brings home paintings, rockets and cards that he has made that day. There is a wide variety of fun and educational activities that fill his day, including games in the garden. The app which includes photos is great at showing me what he
has been up to and eaten each day. He has made a tight group of friends and the staff look after him well. Being at Banana Moon Day Nursery St Albans has helped his confidence and interacting with people outside of the nursery. Would definitely recommend.

My son has attended the Banana Moon Day Nursery St Albans for three and a half years. He is due to start school in September 2021, so I observed the nursery at close quarters over the past few years. I have always been very happy with the nursery and its staff. The nursery provides a varied curriculum,
whilst putting enjoyment at the heart of the learning experience. It has a very comfortable, welcoming feel about it and the staff have always been very friendly and helpful. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the nursery was quick to adapt to ensure it was able to continue to operate and the staff have worked hard to make the new practices work with as little disruption as possible. Which, during these difficult times, we have been very appreciative of. In all the time my son has been attending the nursery, I have never had any serious complaints but perhaps the best judge of the nursery is my son, who loves going to the nursery!

My eldest daughter is about to leave nursery and go to school, over the past 3 years she has loved going to nursery and adores the staff. She's not shy about proclaiming she doesn't like things, so her ringing endorsement of the nursery means I would recommend it to anyone. I also have a very good relationship
with several members of staff, and the owner, which I feel is hugely important. My concerns have always been adequately addressed and my emails promptly replied to. The effort that the staff went to, to provide a graduation ceremony for my daughter during the restrictions of Covid was outstanding, and meant a great deal to her, myself and my husband.

This is a lovely nursery with a variety of activities for my daughter to get involved with. Preparing her for transitioning to school in a fun and engaging way. Staff are very friendly and able to provide lots of cuddles if a child has fallen over or just needs some reassurance. Two of the staff have
made lots of great changes to the rooms offering the children to explore new ideas and themes. This includes a sensory room and cosy library area for quiet time.
Meals are varied and freshly cooked on-site and daily reports provided. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities planned as well as visits from external entertainers such as music classes, zoo animals, etc.

My daughter has been going here for months now and she seems to really enjoy it. All the staff are friendly and you get an update at the end of the day to see what she has done via an app. They also sometimes include a photograph or video of your child on the app as well (if you agree to this when you
join) Obviously not including any other children just your child. New management/owners mean the nursery have also just spruced up a few things including adding new sensory rooms, sending out new reports to parents with details on progress and are changing the menu. They also have plans for introducing a uniform for the older children to get them prepared for school life (the examples they showed us were from a supermarket design). I think there may have been other improvements as well which I've forgotten to mention. Pricing wise it's roughly average I would say, but you need to bring in formula from home if your child drinks formula. Nappies are supplied by them.

Our toddler has attended Banana Moon for nearly 20 months and he loves it. The staff are all friendly and will do their best to make sure our little one is happy. His key worker is brilliant and keeps us up to date with all his developments. This nursery has undergone a lot of changes since Dec 2018
but hopefully, it is settling down now and becoming more stable.

My son has been attending Banana Moon St Albans for almost two months and is in the baby and toddler room. He absolutely loves it and it's clear to see that he loves the staff already. The setting is large with lots of interesting activities laid out and it also has a lot of natural light coming in
which is nice. There is also outside areas that the children frequently use. I would fully recommend this nursery to friends looking for a nursery. My son has also started eating a larger range of food since attending as the cook makes such a nice range of different foods with different tastes and textures which has really helped him to eat more.

My son started nursery in September 2017 and so far he's really enjoying his time there. He loves playing with the toys and there are new toys in the nursery which he loves. The staff are really nice and very friendly. They focus on development for my son as well as play time which is really important.
I would definitely recommend the nursery to my friends or family. The new online journals are fantastic too!

My eldest daughter has just turned 4 and will be starting school in September.
She has attended Banana Moon St Albans since she was 10months old and my opinion now of the setting is still the same as it was when I first viewed it. Considering it has recently undergone a change of ownership and has
had different nursery staff come and go, Banana Moon St Albans has always been a nurturing, well organised, educational environment that my daughter has loved being part of and has thrived.
As a parent, I have always felt able to communicate openly with the nursery and my thoughts have been listened to.
I cannot rate it highly enough except to say that I will be enrolling my younger daughter to start there in a few months time.

Choosing a nursery can be a daunting prospect, and in our case, we visited about four before deciding on Banana Moon and we could not be happier. Each child is different and Banana Moon understand this, in our case, our little one was very shy and needed a lot of one to one attention. We thought she
would never overcome this, fast forward 18 months and she has blossomed, so much self-confidence.
This is down to the staff at Banana Moon, we can see how relaxed and happy she is around them and this is all down to how they interact and care for the children. They have the right mix of play and structured learning and the little ones are always engaged in a new theme or topic. Overall, we could not be happier with Banana Moon, it’s the staff that make this place and along with the facilities and the large airy rooms make for a great environment.

Our daughter started at Banana Moon at 8 months old and has been there nearly a year. She absolutely loves it - regularly asking to go and cheering at the door, which makes drop off a much more pleasant experience. We looked at lots of different places and chose Banana Moon, because although it doesn't
look that appealing from the outside, inside the purpose built facilities are far more spacious, light, clean and versatile than any other nursery we visited. We also felt that the staff were genuinely caring and interested in looking after her - not just ticking boxes to look good on paper. They do a really wide range of different activities (including lots of messy ones - don't send in clothes you like!). Access and parking is really easy. Food is varied and nutritious. Only negative was that she initially had quite a few changes of key worker but this seems to have settled now and I am happy that the new team are settled and committed. We have highly recommended it to several friends.

We are extremely pleased with Banana Moon, St. Albans as a childcare facility for our two year old boy. The nurturing environment has ensured his developmental and emotional needs are met. He has recently successfully transitioned from the baby room to the over two's. My son is very comfortable in his
new surroundings.

Activities are varied within the children's age appropriate rooms and the nursery benefits from a well utilised outdoor space, indoor/outdoor room encouraging the children to be active whatever the weather.

Children are provided with two snacks and two hot, nutritious meals that are varied. These are revised frequently and ensure children the are getting their 5 a day.

Feedback and interaction with staff is at an appropriate level, with daily diaries being discussed on collection, development folders available for us to take home and discussed as parent teacher evenings. I feel that I can access staff when ever I need to if anything arises outside of these times.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.196) out of 10 for Banana Moon Day Nursery St Albans is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.926 for Banana Moon Day Nursery St Albans is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.926
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.27 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Banana Moon Day Nursery St Albans is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 number of registered child places is 15.8. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.8 = 0.57
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
