We chose St G's as we love the size of the school & feeling that you get whenever you approach the school-it is so much more than just a place of learning-there is a real tangible sense of community &belonging all around.

The nursery learning approach is very much child lead & play based. There

is a very Montessori feel to the approach but with a mix elements which is a credit to the staff & a reflection of their experience. Classes like baking, ballet, gym days, regular performances, gardening are all about encouraging /developing fine different motor skills. The size & use of the school grounds is superb as they base a lot of the learning on playing outdoors which we love hearing about from our daughter & following in her online learning journals.

Ultimately, no matter where your child goes on to primary school, the time they will have spent at St G's nursery will give them a lot of happy memories and leave them well rounded and ready to start both P1 and the rest of their life.

Wonderful nursery, we have been delighted with everything. The inside and outside spaces are first class, especially the garden - a real home from home environment.

The staff are outstanding - they really got to know our son and the style of communication and care is extremely personable.

I couldn't

recommend St George's highly enough.

My daughter has been at the nursery for a term now and I am very impressed. In particular, she has clearly been learning a wide range of topics, and her individual interests are also being very much encouraged. The welcoming atmosphere and staff have made her big move to Edinburgh much easier too.

This nursery has wonderful staff who work in excellent facilities. Our son is thriving in this happy, supportive environment. He runs to nursery every morning. We can see his progress through on-line learning journals as well as chatting to the staff daily.

My daughter has enjoyed a wonderful two and a half years at St Georges nursery. I cannot fault the incredible staff and the amazing nurturing environment they have created. The staff are always so welcoming, enthusiastic and accommodating-nothing is too much trouble. Every day my daughter runs in, desperate
too see her friends and teachers, so excited about the day ahead. She has so much fun but at the same time learns so much every day. The children are taken outside virtually every day -sometimes into the on site "Fantastic Forest" (which she loves). We have made life long friends and cannot thank the staff enough for giving my daughter the best start possible to her education.

I have been extremely impressed with St George's Nursery. My daughter has been at the nursery for just under a year (aged 2 1/2 when she joined). I was quite anxious when she joined as her language and communication wasn't as advanced as her bigger sister's had been at the same age, which I was worried
might be due to a (only partially diagnosed) hearing loss in one ear.
The staff at St George's were excellent in meeting with me to discuss the issue and agree a strategy to help my daughter if she was struggling to hear in class. As it turns out, she hasn't had any issues and her speaking (and singing!) has come on in leaps and bounds. The staff were incredibly reassuring and always available for a quick chat if I wanted to check up on how she was getting on, and they regularly added photos and short stories to the nursery website so that I could see she'd been up to. I am really grateful to all the staff.

The nursery is very clean and very well adapted for all children. All staff are very knowledgable about your child's needs. The staff are very approachable and very friendly and keep you informed/updated on your child's development.
The Early Learning Journals update is great to see what your child
does whilst at nursery and you can see their development weekly.

Incredibly well organised and operated nursery. Nursery nurses are highly professional, capable and of course, caring. They carry a daily log of my children's activities and their personal development has been outstanding. We're only leaving because it is a girls' school and therefore we have to! I
have only had highly positive experiences from St George's.

Our daughter started the nursery since last year and we can find her progress every day - mentally as well as physically. First of all, the nursery provides a good environment to girls. The girls can make the most of the forest/field/area around the school. They also often visit the library/music room
of the elder girls. Secondary, they offer well-structured, variety of daily activities. The class is diversified therefore the girls can naturally learn different cultures, too. As a third point, they interact well with other girls at Primary school etc. I can see the elder girls take a good care of nursery girls and they connect each other very well. I think it is one of the best advantages for a relatively small school like St.George's - it provides a family atmosphere. The school offers flexible breakfast club, after school care, holiday clubs so I really appreciate such a scheme as a working mother. Overall, I am very happy with the school and my daughter surely enjoys her days.

Our child is in the nursery from 7:45 to near 6 including breakfast and after school club. As we work full time, we are grateful for the length of the care and supply for the lunch (hot meals). The nursery runs holiday club from 9 to 5 for school break. Regarding the curriculum, outdoor activities
is one of the selling points. My daughter likes to climb trees. If this were a co-ed school, boys probably would dominate such an activity and girls skirt around them. But this is a girls' school (nursery accepts a few boys) and girls have a chance to experiment adventure. Because they have a primary school annex to the nursery, sometimes teachers and pupils of the school visit the nursery and introduce music and languages. The children can use the indoor facilities for PE and music. The nursery encourages parents to read stories to children. Our daughter has been the nursery for 7 months and she has developed well in terms of mental health, physical activities and dexterity.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.921)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.921) out of 10 for St George's Nursery Edinburgh is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for St George's Nursery Edinburgh is calculated as follows: ( (54 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.021 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St George's Nursery Edinburgh is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 number of registered child places is 9.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.521
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
