I think modernising feedback via an app so that you can see what your child has been up to each day would be a significant improvement. The Facebook updates are lovely but don't feature each room each day so you could feasibly go the full week without seeing what your child is up to if they are not in every day. Would love to see more crafts and pre-school learning to write also.
The outdoor space here is great, lots to do and encouraged out in all weathers
The effort that goes into celebrations and holidays is amazing - especially enjoy the kids learning about different cultures and faiths.
It previously had longer opening hours prior to covid, which was well suited to us, but they have never gone back to these, unfortunately.
I agree that the use of an app to form the profile/photos and reports of the kids would be a great addition and keep the nursery more paper-lite.
There is regular TV watching time, which I feel could be cut down on
Overall an amazing place for early years development and highly trusted, wonderful staff.
My older girl attended Southfield House Private Day Nursery from 10 months to 4 years old. My boy has been from 10 months to the present (3). I have had a few conversations with the nursery regards the communication especially regards what they have been up to in the day and the progress of learning. This is definitely an area which needs to improve. I do feel the staff do care about the children however as a parent I don't know very much about what my son is doing while he is at nursery. I like the smaller numbers in the rooms and will continue to have my son at Southfield rather than a council nursery.
I have had only great experiences with Southfield House. My older 2 still reminisce about the wonderful times they had there, just the other day my oldest came to collect my youngest and fondly remembered where he used to dig for worms.
Honestly can't speak highly enough of the staff and the outdoor facilities. The staff are so caring and compassionate and truly respect and adjust their care for each individual child.
Love the outdoor nature walks they take the children on.
All in all, a very nurturing and caring environment.
Would recommend it highly.
My child currently attends Southfield House Private Day Nursery and has done so since 2021. These past 4 years have been amazing, the ladies of Southfield House create such a wonderful, loving, nurturing and fun environment for the children to grow and learn. The communication between staff and parents is excellent. It is so reassuring to know that your child is cared for to such a high standard. I personally appreciate how they get the children involved in the community. They go above and beyond at Southfield House.
My daughter loves going to the nursery. She feels safe, loved and happy when she is there. Southfield House Private Day Nursery has been a second home for my daughter. She has made great friends there and enjoys spending her time there.
Absolutely fantastic nursery and I would highly recommend it. Both my children have attended here with my oldest starting in 2018. The continuity of staff has always been a huge positive for me, with no high turnover and I have built good relationships with everyone who has cared for my children. The genuine love and care all of the staff show towards the children has always been fantastic. Fresh homemade food every lunch, plenty of snacks and a wide variety of activities and outdoor play on offer every day. Five stars.
My son also attended and he loved it too. Cannot recommend highly enough.
My child started the nursery in January 2023 and was around 10.5 months old at the time. We had another offer of availability for a nursery closer to our house but we really liked the look of the outdoor space here. I've had a fantastic experience in the nursery to date and that's with my son starting in the baby room and moving up a level. The staff members are all so nurturing and warm - a very approachable bunch and you get the sense that they care about your child like they have established genuine bonds and relationships. This is exactly what you want from the people caring for your child in your absence. They provide healthy homemade meals and they give a good selection of snacks. For the younger kids, they buy the Ella and Organix brands. They get the kids playing outdoors, and they do a range of indoor activities from water play to arts and crafts to singalongs and reading and learning words. My son is kept busy which he needs. I don't worry when my son is in this nursery.
I am very happy with the values, love and positive energy they transmit to the children.
With tolerance, respect, normality, love and fun at the same time, the children learn a lot.
I feel me and my children have always received the support and guidance we needed at every stage over these early years.
Highly recommend this nursery and have done so multiple times. A wee gem of a place.
My granddaughter attends this nursery, it is a lovely homely environment. The staff are all so friendly and approachable. They have lovely outdoor facilities! I would definitely recommend this nursery.
My child has been thriving, which is definitely a result of her nursery experience, amongst other things. I feel very confident leaving her in the care of two members, in particular, they are both very friendly, loving and communicative! This is much appreciated. She has a good variety of food throughout the week which is great. The updates via social media are lovely to see. I also love that they try to get outdoors wherever possible.
My daughter has attended the nursery since she was 8 months old. She is now almost 3. She settled in well and has thrived under the care of the staff. I like that she gets outside time most days, the meals and varied and she participates in a number of different activities. She has been with the same group of children since she started and it's lovely seeing these bonds grow. She talks about the nursery at home and speaks about staff and other children with genuine warmth. A fantastic nursery.
Good experience overall. Time of opening and closing works well for us. Communication could be improved with the use app. Very happy with the staff and they look after our daughter well. We would recommend to other people
