My son has absolutely thrived since joining this nursery from another local one. His confidence has gone from strength to strength and he can't wait to go each morning. On the occasions where he has had a wobble about me dropping him off, the staff are always there to help and welcome him, so any tears never last long. The outdoor area is lovely and I love that he comes home messy, sweaty and covered in dirt, a true sign of a good day! The staff are brilliant, everyone always welcomes and says goodbye to my son by name even though he's not in their group. There's a real, genuinely warm feeling about the place.
My son will be leaving soon for school but we're not saying goodbye yet and are signing up to a place for our next one due in the summer we love it that much.
First class nursery. The minute I walked in to scout it out I knew that it would be the one! This is down to one factor - the staff. Down to earth, hardworking, friendly, honest, loving etc, etc. The staff are the reason for this nursery having such an influential reputation.
Friendly, courteous staff who obviously take pride in their work. My child comes home well looked after and clean. Seems to like the food. Good focus on getting outside when possible.
I have been present at mealtimes and have been impressed at the level of independence shown by the older children helping themselves and eating together.
I'm incredibly impressed by this nursery.
My grandchild always comes home smiling after a fulfilling day. The facilities are excellent and the staff first class. They always take time to go over the day and explain all the activities they have done, discuss their development and answer any questions we have. My grandchild's core worker has been an absolute star during their time there and I can't recommend them enough.
Great nursery with lovely staff. Our son started in August 2017 and his key worker worked with us to create a tailored settling in plan over 2 weeks to get us all used to the new surroundings. We've all settled into the routine now and our son looks forward to going to nursery each day and has made loads of new friends there. The nursery room has loads of space, regularly changed out toys and an outdoor space dedicated to the littlest ones.
Optional extra activities are offered.
The only negative is that the nursery will not administer medicine (e.g for teething) which we know some other Edinburgh nurseries will do.
We have found that our daughter's learning and development at the nursery is very good. She has been involved in activities that have provided a wide range of skills and advancement.
We appreciate the level of effort taken to get the children outside playing together and carrying out tasks. The web portal updates are really enjoyable to see.
The staff are very friendly and supportive and my daughter has a great time there.
I was worried when she first started as her eating and drinking wasn't very good, but the staff reassured me that she'd be fine and she was.
It's a huge comfort to be able to go to work and not worry about her at all.
All the children are clean, dry, fed, watered and entertained to the best of the staff's abilities as far as we can see. My daughter squeals with excitement sometimes when we arrive which is so reassuring.
It would be nice to see or hear about some outdoor time, but aside from that, we are very happy. The staff seem pragmatic and deal with incidents appropriately (our daughter has been bitten a couple of times)
The staff are very lovely and caring. They get to know the children very well and always give abundant details of the child's day at pickup time. They are regularly teaching the children about different cultures and languages, particularly those of the nursery children attending. One request would be to further encourage/assist the picky eaters.
I think this is an excellent nursery. It is well managed, and all the staff I have interacted with over the last year or so have been professional and enthusiastic. I would have no difficulty in recommending this nursery to others.
Brilliant nursery. My son started at 9 months old and has bonded really well with the staff in the baby room. Lovely carers and great surroundings and he is so happy to be dropped off, would definitely recommend this nursery to anyone.
The staff have been excellent in helping our daughter settle into Pooh Corner, and she has developed a rapport with her carers. We appreciate the support and cooperation staff have shown with regards to continuing our daughter's nap routine. We are grateful that meals are provided; perhaps our only criticism is the lack of greens/pulses/vegetables and variety. Our daughter loves playing outside and we are happy that she has a fun environment outdoors in which to play. Our daughter seems content at The Corner House.
I am very happy with the nursery and my daughter has settled really well. The staff are friendly and approachable. The menu is varied and nutritious. I would recommend to any friends thinking of sending their child to nursery.
Staff are all friendly, caring and approachable. My son has always seemed happy and engaged at the nursery. He has learnt a lot especially in terms of speech. I have had no negative experiences there at all.
Care of children is first class, all staff are very good at knowing everything about all the children.
Give detailed reports at the end of day.
Very loving and friendly environment.
Lovely, warm welcoming and always smiling staff. Great variety of activities for the children to keep them busy and capture their imagination on daily basis. Fabulous commitment to keep the parents informed of what the children have been up to during the day and on special educational activities online. Strive to offer healthy food. Fantastic garden which is regularly upgraded and improved. Highly recommend nursery.
I have used this nursery with my two sons and have nothing but high praise for this establishment. Staff are helpful and nothing is ever too much. They have been taken over in the last year but have noticed little difference, which is a good thing and anything new introduced had been an improvement.

Meet the Team (2)

I have worked in childcare for the last 20 years and it is truly my passion in life. My focus in early years is to improve the outcomes for all children and families in the nursery. I love to see the joy on a child’s face when exploring all that nursery life can bring. Looking forward to Gillsland, I am excited as to what the future holds.

I have worked at Gillsland for the last 5 years and have a strong passion and love for this nursery. I have a strong focus on and take joy in improving and developing provocations and areas for children to explore. I feel strongly about getting our families involved at any opportunity and enjoy arranging or organising open/family days for our team to build on these strong relationships.
