Little Steps Childcare provides high-quality care and education for children up to the age of five years, with out-of-school provision offered for children up to the age of 12 years. Children are cared for in a secure, friendly and stimulating environment by a supportive staff team who are well-qualified and receive ongoing training to ensure their approach and practice is compliant at all times.

The nursery has three separate, age-appropriate areas for babies, two- to three-year-olds, and children over the age of three, where they can participate in activities and learning to fully prepare them for full-time education. The nursery’s outdoor area is ideal for enhancing the children’s learning, with climbing equipment, a muddy corner, a bike track and an outdoor classroom.

Children at Little Steps are encouraged to develop independence and social skills at mealtimes. Menus are regularly rotated and provide children with the necessary nutrition for their age and development.

At Little Steps Childcare Centre Ltd, the quality of care and the happiness of the children is their main concern. They feel that enjoyable and interesting experiences are the key to positive attitudes towards learning, so the emphasis is on learning through play.

A wide range of toys and resources are available to encourage the children to reach their full potential. Observations of the children are undertaken during their play to enable the staff to plan activities based on their interests and to widen their knowledge.

Daily activities are based on the Early Years Foundation Phase Curriculum and cover the seven areas of learning:

•        Personal and Social Development, Well-being and Cultural Diversity
•        Language, literacy and Communication Skills
•        Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
•        Knowledge and Understanding of the World

The Review Score of 8.4 (maximum of 10) for Little Steps Childcare is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5 out of 5 from 2 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Little Steps Childcare in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.958 for Little Steps Childcare is calculated as follows: ( (23 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.958

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.467 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Steps Childcare is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25

    2. Target of 9.2 positive Reviews (46 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 9.2 Target = 0.217

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My 3-year-old son enjoys attending little steps nursery in Ystradgynlais and I am confident in the care he receives there. The staff are friendly and approachable and provide plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to help him learn through play.

Both our children have been looked after by Little Steps from the ages of 10 and 12 months until they went to school. Both have absolutely loved their time there, really progressing and mixing well with others. One has a serious medical condition and the other is intolerant to a few foods and the staff have coped with both excellently. The range of activities, food and environments have been spot on for both our chatty but chilled boy and our busy little action man. We wouldn't hesitate about putting other children into their care, just might hesitate about producing any more!
