Ofsted Outstanding (June 2022) Harlequin is a homely nursery where children have the freedom to play and learn in a safe environment.

The nursery features inviting and spacious, open-plan play areas that are well resourced and all the rooms open directly onto the gardens, allowing easy access to outdoor play and to the woodland surroundings.

The children are able to grow their own flowers and vegetables and have fun in the giant sandpit and a specially designed bird watching den.

Staff at Harlequin work with parents to support each child's learning and there is the opportunity to become involved in nursery events.

The nursery hosts 'Stay and Play' sessions that are popular with parents and grandparents, allowing them to enjoy the activities that children love to do.

My son has attended this nursery for roughly 2 years his experience of this nursery is exceptional, he has quite a few needs emotionally and now coming to the end of his nursery journey I feel like they have gone above and beyond for him meaning I am 100% confident in him entering his school journey
and all thanks to harlequin they are an excellent nursery and I would recommend them to anyone sending their child to a nursery setting

Harlequin nursery has been a hugely positive and developmental experience for both my 4 and 2 year old.
The open planned nature of the smaller nursery lends itself for a environment that allows children of different ages to interact.
Key workers are excellent at communicating issues and achievement.
We have also been appraised of educational and foundational milestones of our children.
Management has been flexible where possible when we have requested extra days.
All staff from the manager to domestic support staff all seem to genuinely care for the children. I am also impressed with the fact they employ apprentices to give people starting out the chance to learn in a supportive environment.
Facilities and food are varied and of of a high quality.
All round 5 stars would recommend.

My 4 year old daughter and nearly 2 year old son attend Harlequin - my daughter has been going since she was 17 months old.


We have had such a wonderful experience with Harlequin. It's a warm and friendly nursery and the staff are very caring. My daughter runs in happily every morning, and they've

really helped my son settle who goes in happily too.


The food is fantastic, they get lots of time outdoors which they love, and both of my children have come along in their development and social skills since attending.


I would happily recommend this nursery to anyone and am so pleased we chose here for our children.

Would definitely recommend harlequins. The staff are fantastic and our little boy talks about them non stop. The nursery itself has lots of things for them to explore both indoors and outdoors. Communication is fantastic and we look forward to seeing updates on the app.

My daughter has been attending this nursery for a year now, whilst she has struggled with a bit of separation anxiety the improvement over the last few months has been amazing and that is partly to do with the nursery. The staff are great and she loves her days in nursery and even gets exited at the
mention of it! Thank you to all the staff for their continued support and care.

Our daughter attends Harlequin nursery and absolutely loves spending her days playing with her friends and her key worker. She especially loves the outdoors area, exploring in the sandpit and the woods, what ever the weather. Her key worker is fabulous and has a great connection with our daughter and
has really spent time getting to know her likes and dislikes.
As parents we love knowing that our daughter gets lovely nutritious food whilst at nursery.

All my 3 children have attended Harlequin Nursery. I am particularly pleased with the level of care my son has recieved and is continuing to recieve. The staff have helped my son ease into potty training they have also supported me with his speech and continue to do so. We have regular reviews which

Our son attends Harlequin nursery and loves his days there. He is always entertained with different themed activities with plenty of outdoor play in all weathers. The staff are all friendly and take the best care of him. He always eats well with varied and healthy meals! We get a daily update with lovely

Our daughter attends Harlequin and she loves it. The staff are really friendly and she loves her key worker. The menu is fantastic, lots of fresh fruit and veg and they often eat outside. The outdoor ethos is our favourite part, exploring the forest and playing outside in all weathers!

We've had a wonderful experience with our daughter's nursery. The staff are incredibly friendly, caring, and knowledgeable, which made us feel confident from day one. My 20month old absolutely loves it at Harlequin, all of the staff are so lovely and friendly - and I love that the staff from the toddler/preschool room also interact and play with my daughter, who is in the baby room.
My daughter's keyworker is very attentive, fun, and thoughtful, which makes a big
difference. The facilities are great, including the outdoor space, and it's always lovely and clean. The meals provided are always very healthy, which is great.
The ethos of Harlequin is really lovely, I couldn't have chosen a better nursery!

Harlequin has been my top recommended nursery since moving to Huddersfield 10 years ago. Both my girls were under their care and now my boy has his last few months there before going onto infant school. The quality of care and compassion for the children is impeccable. The children feel safe and loved
by all members of staff. The staff are personable with all the parents too and I look forward to our chats at the end of the day. My boy and I always leave with a smile. To send your child to Harlequin nursery is an honour and I can say hand on heart that you will not be let down. The best experience your child will have!

Our daughter's absolutely loves this nursery and so do we! They settled in really quickly and have both come on loads since starting. The staff are lovely - always friendly, really caring with the kids and have created a genuine bond with our children. One of the highlights for our eldest is the outdoor
play, especially the time they spend in the forest - she always comes home with amazing stories about it! It's great to know she's getting fresh air and learning through play. The nursery is really safe and well run, and we always know what she's been up to thanks to the regular updates on the app and communication during pickups. Couldn't be more happy with this nursery

Harlequin is a fabulous nursery, it's a wonderful community for children to flourish in. My eldest son who's now 12 years old went to H, so when we had another child in 2022 despite living on the other side of town, this was our preferred nursery.


There is a variety, of food, activities and resources.

Our daughter enjoys her 2 days a week at nursery. She's never in a rush to leave and happily starts her day.


The staff and always on hand to answer questions and share stories about the day.
Staff are very well trained and take time to find activities to encourage personalised development.


The outside space is great - lots to do and varied textures and areas to play in.

Both my son and daughter currently attend Harlequin nursery and I couldn't recommend it enough!
The setting is perfect - small and cosy but lots of room to play and learn! The garden and forrest area is brilliant for both my children who love to be outdoors.
The food menu is varied and healthy and
I feel very reassured my children are getting a balanced diet every day they attend. Most times I am informed they have asked for seconds (and thirds!) at dinner time so it must be very tasty!
The staff are so friendly and have great relationships with both my children (baby room and pre school room). All staff are very friendly, professional and take the time to talk to me at pick up about my children's day.
Both my children love going to nursery and its very reassuring knowing my children are in excellent hands when they attend Harlequin Nursery. Would highly recommend!

Both my daughters go to
This nursery and it was the best decision I have made. They are both thriving and love going to nursery. The staff are amazing and so friendly and I love the choice of food at meal times! Overall amazing setting.

I joined the team at Portland Nurseries in March 2024


I have significant experience in childcare across several nursery settings, most recently as Deputy of a large nursery. My previous roles have included being Lead SENDCO and Safeguarding Lead.


I recently started my own family and have a real understanding of the importance of what we do as childcare professionals and the reward it brings.


My favourite thing to do is spend time with my family, and garden in my allotment. a hobby that I love to incorporate into the activities on offer for the children at Harlequin!
