Hartford Old School House Day Nursery operates from a beautiful, old building in Hartford, Cheshire and aims to offer local parents a professional approach to childcare and an environment that is ideal for early years learning.

All education is age-specific with a wide range of resources to suit progress through the early years. There is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, as well as active play. They encourage a natural, open-ended environment and are currently working towards an award for Surfers Against Sewage, which is a plastic free pledge to reduce the amount of single use plastic they use.

There is a large outside play area, with a separate 'growing area' for the children to learn about the world and grow their own vegetables.

The nursery has access to 2 minibuses and they are regularly used to transport children for trips out to various places and they are also used to take and collect children from local schools who access wraparound care.

There are weekly visits during term time from Development First Coaching who provide sports activities for the Pre-School. Diddi Dance come weekly and provide a dancing class for the Saplings and Little Blossom room. Rhythm time visit the under 2's children once a week too.

The nursery also runs a thriving before and after school club and holiday club (wraparound care) supporting there local school, Hartford Manor and Hartford Primary School.

We cannot recommend Hartford Old School House Day Nursery (Paintpots) highly enough. Both our children attended from their early years through every stage and received exceptional care and preparation for school. The balance of learning and play, along with the fantastic indoor and outdoor facilities,
helped them grow in confidence and independence.

Now aged 8 and 10, they still attend the before and after school club. The team manage drop-offs and pick-ups and are always flexible with our busy, shift-working family life. From forgotten water bottles to last-minute changes, nothing is ever too much trouble.

The staff are professional, caring and truly invested in helping children thrive. Great timings, great value, and a genuine family feel - we are incredibly grateful for their continued support.

We cannot speak highly enough of the Old School House nursery. We were very nervous about our daughter starting nursery last year but the best decision we have ever made was sending her to Old School House. The staff are absolutely wonderful. They love and care for the children in the nursery as if
they are their own. We receive daily updates, photos and videos on the app which, as anxious parents, really does help to put our minds at ease. The nursery do so much with the children, like crafts and trips out and our daughter has developed so much since she started. She has clearly become very attached to the staff there and has made some lovely friendships too. The nursery have also been extremely flexible and will always do everything they can to help us. We absolutely love the nursery and would fully recommend it to anyone considering where to send their children.

Sarah, Emma and all the staff are incredible! The nursery is clean, my twins are learning and entertained every day with no plastic toys and no screens but lots of interactive learning and even walks/trips outside of the nursery. The food is fresh and diverse, lots of fruit and veg. All shown to us
through the app which is great as it's always up to date with activities, photos and nap times etc. Couldn't recommend a nursery more!

Hartford Old School House has been a fantastic nursery for my daughter. She has absolutely thrived in the care of the dedicated staff. Sarah and team always respond to any and all queries quickly and my daughter is greeted with a smile every morning. My daughter was born with a complex medical need
and the nursery has fully supported us every step of the way. We love hearing about her day on the way home and would happily recommend Hartford Old School House.

We couldn't be happier with this nursery. Our daughter Maya is now 2.5 and has been attending since just before her first birthday. She absolutely loves going in, which says everything about how safe, happy, and cared for she feels there.

The team are incredibly warm, nurturing and they always take

the time to listen to any requests or concerns and are consistently responsive and supportive. Nothing ever feels like too much trouble!

We're especially grateful for how flexible and accommodating they are, which has made balancing working family life so much easier. We highly recommend Hartford day nursery to any parent looking for a nursery!

My son has been attending the nursery full-time since 2024 and has been very happy. He's now at Preschool and enjoys going every day and often talks about his teachers and friends.
We've seen wonderful progress in his learning, confidence, and social skills. The environment is warm, supportive, and
engaging.
We're very grateful for the care and dedication of the team and would highly recommend this nursery/preschool to other parents.

Both of my children have attended for several years and I highly recommend it. One child is still in nursery, while the other uses the wraparound care, including the breakfast, after-school and holiday club.
The staff are friendly and go above and beyond to ensure the children are happy, safe and content.
We receive detailed information at handover each day, along with regular updates, photos and key information shared via the app.
They offer a whole-child approach, with enriching experiences including trips out, swimming lessons, learning Spanish, and even a visit to see the aeroplanes at the viewing park with a picnic!
My daughter has food allergies and the entire team, from the cook to the room leaders, are vigilant and ensure she is safe. The nursery and SENCO have also worked closely with us to support my son, including accommodating an outside agency for extra intervention.
The team are inclusive, caring and accommodating. I would thoroughly recommend this nursery to any family

We moved to the area around 18 months ago when our daughter was just turning 3 and our son wasn't quite 1. We visited several nurseries in the area before settling on Hartford Old School House Day Nursery.
They always seem to be making small improvements and upgrades to the facilities to keep things
fresh.
From an admin point of view everything has been really straightforward and the communication around billing and other housekeeping is great.
The staff at the nursery are amazing. They are all so friendly and welcoming with the kids, my wife and I, and my parents and in-laws who often do the pick ups. My daughter is in school now but often comes along for drop off or pick up and all the staff she knows chat to her and seem genuinely interested in how she's getting on.
The food seems great in terms of variety and the little one always eats well. They do loads of crafting and themed days to keep things fresh. They even take the kids on days out sometimes which is great.

My daughter has been attending Hartford Old School House since last April and I cannot put into words how pleased we have been with our choice of nursery. I was really worried about my daughter starting nursery as she was very attached to us but she has settled so well, which has all been due to the
most fabulous staff. She absolutely loves going to nursery. The staff go above and beyond everyday with both parents and the children. There are a range of activities that the nursery organises for the children, from crafts and sensory play to trips out to Delamere Forest and the local area. We have been so impressed with the amount of things they do with the children.
The nursery provides pictures and updates throughout the day, which really makes us feel at ease that she is having a great day. The rooms are clean and tidy and a really lovely environment for the children to thrive.

My Daughter went to this nursery from 6 months old until she was 3 and a half years old and absolutely loved it!
The management team are wonderful - very approachable and attentive.
The team leaders communicate well what your child has been up to that day and the app allows parents to be kept informed
into the important things too such as what they have eaten, nappy changes for babies and whether they have napped and for how long.
The nursery promote culture so the children enjoy celebrating events such as Chinese new year through arts and crafts and the in-house cook provides multicultural cuisine so the children get to sample different food.
The food is all cooked on site and the menu is healthy and balanced.
Children's dignity is respected and the staff's mobiles are not on person when working with the children.
I am so pleased with this nursery that I have already signed my younger daughter up for when I return to work.
I strongly recommend this nursery to all parents.

Our baby started at old school house day nursery in November for 4 days a week when she was 6 months old and is thriving there.
The care and love from the staff is above and beyond. We could not have asked for better peace of mind returning to work.
We feel like the staff truly know our daughter
and are invested in her development. It is evident that her days are packed with fun, stimulating activities. Her development is coming on leaps and bounds from attending and it is clear that the stimulation from being around other children as well as care from staff are driving this.
It is evident that staff are really committed to the nursery and creating a loving environment for the children. Our daughter doesn't even look back when she is dropped off in the morning as she is so excited to be spending her days at nursery.
We couldn't be happier with our decision to send our daughter to old school house and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone in the area.

We couldn't be happier with this nursery and their afterschool and holiday club provision. Both of my children attend, and they absolutely love it.
The staff are warm, caring and genuinely invested in the children. They create such a safe, nurturing environment while still making it fun and engaging.
My children are always excited to go and come home full of stories about what they've been doing.
The afterschool club is brilliant for working parents - flexible, reliable and well organised. The holiday club is just as fantastic, with a great mix of activities that keep the children active, creative and entertained, along with day trips to parks, libraries, beaches.
It's so reassuring knowing they're somewhere they feel happy, supported and included. The communication from staff is excellent, and you can really see the passion they have for what they do.
I would highly recommend to any parent looking for quality childcare with a genuine family feel.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.669)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.669) out of 10 for Hartford Old School House Day Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.969 for Hartford Old School House Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (186 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 192 Ratings = 4.969
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hartford Old School House Day Nursery is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 100 number of registered child places is 20. 16 Positive Reviews ÷ 20 = 0.8
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
