Located in the heart of the town, Tops Bretonside is an ideal nursery for parents and carers living or working in the centre of Plymouth.

Placed within a thriving arts community, the nursery is in close proximity to the Theatre Royal and the Mayflower House of Arts. Children’s natural curiosity can be well catered for with access to numerous sites of historical interest such as the Mayflower Steps Memorial, as well as museums and ancient buildings.

In the nursery itself, stunning activities are arranged with the children in mind, stemming from the their own creativity and imagination. The carefully selected staff team provide excellent care and promote independence and encouragement continuously.

This nursery is part of a group that provides the most eco-sustainable childcare and education in the UK, being respectful of the environment and acting to reduce, re-use and recycle resources is an important part of the culture and routine for the children and staff.

Tops Bretonside was the first nursery I viewed and after viewing others, I couldn't enrol in Tops quickly enough! My baby has been attending for around 9 months. I was very nervous about her being so young but circumstances meant it was necessary. She is now 15 months and is full time at the nursery.
The staff take the time needed to get to know her and me. I always find them very respectful of my values and requests as well as being really flexible. I am extremely confident in the care they provide and that her well being is always their priority. They share information about the day and the activities and it is great to see the variety of things that they do that are both educational and fun. It feels like a genuine partnership between parent and key worker, working together to meet her needs. My baby absolutely loves attending and despite being born in lockdown, she is thriving emotionally, socially, and developmentally. I do not doubt that the nursery plays a big role in this.

The staff gave my lactose-intolerant son a cup of milk. Both kids have food diaries as one has an allergy, the other rarely seems to eat their food or has just been given fruit on occasions. Food diary either updated late evening or we don't get one at all. Brought this up with several staff members
with no improvement. Allowed someone to collect them without a password. Luckily it was their grandparent but could have been anyone! Kids seem to enjoy the setting but a lot of other things need looking at especially important ones like allergies!

My little boy has been with Tops Day Nurseries: Bretonside Nursery since he was 10 months old. The staff are amazing with him. We love the new forest school. He makes great friendships and is always happy when I collect him.

I have been attending this nursery for over seven years with three of my children. I have so many positive things to say. There are always helpful, caring and putting the children first. They always contact you with any issues so you're always first to know.
My daughter is currently attending the
nursery and she loves it, she’s always asking to go nursery and play with all her friends and the staff. She loved it when they did yoga and when they sing songs and dance and she even loves to learn everything else via the educational curriculum they teach (colours, numbers, etc.) She’s always full of beans when she leaves nursery, always a happy smile on her face and that's what it is all about.
Highly recommended nursery, it’s the best start to a brighter future.

Since joining the Nursery my daughter has developed in so many ways. She is more confident and balanced and looks forward to going into nursery every day. She enjoys coming to nursery and always asks if she is going. She has made lots of friends and enjoys seeing the staff and talking to them. The
staff are all friendly and will talk to you about how she has been and what she has been doing.
My child enjoys coming to nursery, he gets excited when we are on our way. He is well looked after and gets along with most staff. They respect my wishes as a parent and I fully trust them with my children. I also have a son in babies and he always holds his arms out for staff to get him as soon as we arrive.

Without a doubt, I’d recommend this nursery!
Extremely polite and helpful staff, my son enjoys the setting and has a great day! He is always learning and developing with all the play.

My daughter is very happy and content in nursery, she has been attending since she was 15 months old and is now in pre school. Staff are approachable, knowledgeable and supportive. I feel extremely confident leaving my daughter with them when at work. I would high Likely recommend this nursery.

I have worked in the early years sector for the past 12 years and have been a nursery manager for the last 4 years.


3.   Hobbies/interests
I love to be outside, exploring the coast and moors teaching my three children about the environment.
I am interested in baking and trying out new recipes.
Furthering my own knowledge and experience by completing additional qualifications and training.


4.   Fun fact
Before working in the early years sector I was a swimming teacher, teaching from the ages of 3 months to 85 years old.
