The Woodside Centre is a nursery located in Tiverton, Devon.

Woodside Nursery is managed by Early Years Alliance offering early years care and education for children aged three months to five years, alongside they are a recipient of the government funding for childcare for qualifying two-year-olds and all three and four-year-olds.

Their friendly and well-qualified nursery staff give children exciting and stimulating learning opportunities. Within a safe, friendly and fun environment, including indoor and outdoor play areas, children are supported by qualified staff in developing a wide range of skills and interests. Each child is supported by a key person who understands their individual needs and offers special support to them.

The Baby Room, with the team's nurturing natures, have created a calm area for the babies to play and explore in. The small area also means the babies get space to have one-to-one time with their key person, babies individual routines are followed.

The Toddler Room provides a stimulating, fun learning environment for the children. Children have the opportunity to explore the environment through creative and imaginative play and have opportunities to work in small groups with their key person, to extend personal, social and emotional skills, enabling them to develop independence and a 'have a go' attitude.

the Pre-School Room recognises that children need to be in a secure environment to grow and learn. Before they focus on getting the children school ready, the team develop relationships, seeking to understand how they learn and what inspires them. Within this area, the children’s learning is extended through a range of resources and activities. It focuses on letters and sounds as well as numeracy and independence. The ethos of learning through play is continued within the pre-school room and activities are targeted at children’s interests.

Our son started at Woodside nursery in January 2021 after being born just before the first lockdown. As he hadn’t met many people, we were concerned about how he would react to so many new faces and cope without his mum, but all the staff are so welcoming. He has settled so well we couldn’t be happier.
He gets to try different foods and activities which we may not have thought of at home, which is great, an added bonus is he always sleeps well after a day at Woodside.

Always met with a smile, kept informed every day via the app and in person. My son is always happy and excited to attend the setting. The whole staff have been absolutely amazing throughout the whole pandemic and should all be extremely proud of themselves for continuing to provide amazing care, well-done
ladies!

The team at Woodside nursery are amazing! Each member of staff is welcoming, friendly, approachable and so good with all the children. My little boy was a little behind with his development, which since being at nursery, he has progressed very quickly. He has such a strong bond with the staff that when
he does get a little worried, he'll approach them for cuddles or reassurance. He absolutely loves being there. And they update you with the child's learning journeys, how they do at the sessions, what they've eaten, what they're achieving. Would 100% recommend this nursery!

Our son started at Woodside in September 2020.
He really enjoys going to the nursery; he’s so excited to get in that he doesn’t even say bye! He’s off!
The staff have taken the time and made extra effort to get to know him, as he has a development delay and suspected autism, and it really shows
that they know him so well. After only a few weeks, it was clear that he had started to pick up new skills, and is continuing to thrive.
The manager is so professional and extremely supportive, to me especially.
I've found all the staff very friendly and approachable.
Our younger son is due to start at the nursery over the next month.

My son has just started at Woodside and I couldn’t be happier with how he has settled in. He looks forward to going every morning and can’t wait to get out of the door to get there. All the staff are so welcoming and my son is happy to go with all of them at the door. The family app they have set up
is fantastic. I can see exactly what my boy has been up to all day with photos and very detailed messages from the key worker. So happy I sent him here. I am looking forward to seeing how he progresses in his time here.

Our daughter was previously with another local nursery, but we weren't happy with her struggling to settle in and their cleanliness amongst other things. Woodside was a breath of fresh air, she has settled in since day one, comes home chatting about her day and excited to return to the nursery. Found
all staff happy and helpful, more than happy to leave my child in their care. The app used helps me see what she's been up to each time she attends.

We currently have two Grandchildren at Woodside, they have been going since September last year and they absolutely love going.
There's always loads going on for the little ones, and all the staff are fantastic.
The two girls have had a lot to deal within the last year, and I can't praise the manager
and the team highly enough for their support.

My son has been going here for about four months now and loves it. It's a lovely nursery and the staff are friendly, welcoming, enthusiastic and have done a brilliant job at settling him in. He's developed a great bond with his key worker who is lovely. Communication is brilliant with the use of the
app. Being able to send and receive messages is so convenient, and having updates and progress reports along with photos are great and it's so easy to use. Overall, I'm so pleased I've sent my son here and highly recommend it.

My daughter has attended Woodside for approximately 18 months. During that time I have had contact with almost all the staff at the setting. I have found them all to be professional, quick to respond to queries and extremely child-focussed.
My daughter loves going to nursery and is supported and encouraged
by the enthusiastic staff. At the time of writing, we have just gone into lock-down for the Covid-19 pandemic and through a difficult time for the setting, they have kept good communication going with the parents, keeping us informed as the situation progressed. I am also very pleased that they have introduced the use of the app which makes communication very easy and enables us to receive pictures and video updates of our daughter's progress.
Overall I'm extremely happy with Woodside and would recommend them to anyone looking for a nursery in the Tiverton area.

Extremely pleased with my choice to send my little one here. We had just moved back to England so have had a couple of unsettled weeks/months. I was worried my little one was going to find it hard to settle in. With only a couple session, she gets so excited every morning when I say it’s time to see
your key worker, as we walk through the doors she runs to put her stuff away and to the gate or to cuddle from her. It has made me feel so happy to know she has the best time and feels so comfortable. I always get a warm welcome by all the staff at every drop off and pick up, it’s so lovely. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

My daughter has been with Woodside for 3 months in the 0-2 room. She has an excellent relationship with her key person and other adults at the setting. I have seen her grow in confidence in the short time she has been there and it is evident she feels comfortable in that environment. The staff have
all made a conscious effort to get to know her and work with her, understanding her needs and responding to them well. My daughter has an intolerance to cows milk and the setting have responded to this without issue and at no extra cost to me. It is clear my daughter's welfare is their primary concern and they operate a warm and nurturing environment for all the children in their care. Not once have I dropped my daughter off and felt concerned about leaving her there. There is a parent forum enabling parents to be as active as they wish in the setting and they are always seeking continuous improvement to ensure parents are just as satisfied as the children. I couldn't recommend more highly.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.544)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.544) out of 10 for The Woodside Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 5.000 for The Woodside Centre is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.544 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Woodside Centre is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 number of registered child places is 10.2. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.294
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Assistant Manager

I am Jo, and I have been working at Woodside Nursery for five years, starting as a Nursery Worker then Senior Room Lead and now Assistant Manager with SENCO responsibilities.

My first experience in a nursery was when I trained in the Montessori method of nursery teaching. Before completion I had my first daughter and for work reasons moved to Italy. In Italy I worked as a language teacher, teaching five to eleven year olds.

After eight years living in Italy, we, five children and I returned to England and I completed a Level 3 in Early Years and Childcare. Five years later on completion of an initial teacher training course, I taught Music and Drama in secondary school for almost nine years. Caring for the elderly, for a while bought me to Woodside when I visited with a parent and liked it so much, I now work here.

My life’s experiences with children of all ages, has helped me to nurture and teach children using my strengths. I also use a lot of musically inspired activities, teaching the children mathematics and literacy using their favourite songs and playing instruments. As an artist, I fill the craft table with a variety of ideas enabling the children to be creative.

Each month, I like to introduce new subjects and books that match the activities as books and reading are vital to a child’s development. I also include activities in the garden and tell the children all about growing vegetables and show them insects that live under logs of wood.

I have worked with parents through the development of their children and enjoy supporting any special needs. I support other nursery workers by suggesting ways of learning or creating exciting activities to help our children develop and grow.

Job Title: Nursery Chef

I have worked here at Woodside for just over 6 years, and I have 2 roles within the nursery. My main role is as a nursery Chef Whereby I plan and produce health, well balanced and nutritious meals catering for all allergies that need to be taken into account.

When Ofsted inspected in December 2022, they observed that my meals were homemade and wholesome, and the Food Standards Agency agreed in January 2023 by awarding me another 5 star rating!

My other role is a Flexi Worker so that I can work on the floor with the children whatever age as I am qualified to Level 3 with a Diploma in PreSchool Practice.

When I am not working, I love exploring the beautiful southwest beaches and going for walks among nature in the woods and on the moors. But spending time with my lovely family is the thing I love doing the most.

Job Title: Nursery Assistant Joined: 2023

Hello, I’m Jessica! I started at Woodside nursery as the 2-3 lead in January 2023 after working as toddler room lead in an Exeter nursery for the last 4 years although I spent 9 months of this time on maternity leave after having my first child, on Christmas Day 2021! I have recently moved to Tiverton with my daughter and partner after living in Sidmouth all my life! In my spare time I am enjoying exploring the local areas around Tiverton and getting to know my new home town. I also enjoy going for runs in the evening to recharge and I am currently working on the couch to 5k with the ambition of running a race at the end of the year! When I’m not at work or running around Tiverton I enjoy switching my brain off by baking yummy cakes or doing a paint by numbers! I trained in level 3 childcare with Exeter College which bought lots of opportunities to gain work experience with 0-7 year olds and I’ve worked with children ever since. Working with children brings me so much joy and truly is my passion in life, there is nothing better than seeing the smiling innocent faces and watching the next generation grow! At work I love reading stories and getting messy in the sensory tray! At work my colleagues would probably say I can be quiet at times, reliable and professional but my friends and family would say I’m a bit crazy.

I’m Adelaide and I am the Nursery Manager at Woodside. I’ve been at Woodside for a year now and love it here. It is a fabulous nursery with a great space for children to play and learn. It is such a warm and friendly environment to work in and the staff are lovely. I am excited to see what the future holds here since we had our Ofsted inspection in December 2022 where we received a Good rating which we are all delighted with.
I have worked in childcare for the last 15 years. I have worked with all ages, from Early Years to age eleven. I love all ages but my real passion is the Early Years. I am fascinated by how different the children’s personalities are and how they develop and grow.
I have 2 children, Ava and Daisy, 14 and 9 respectively. Our family loves to spend days out in the countryside with our dog Herbert. Since moving to Devon 14 months ago we try to make the most of being outside and like to visit the beaches as much as we can rain or shine!
My partner and I share a love of gardening and we are starting to grow our own vegetables in our garden. I have recently bought a greenhouse and am awaiting its arrival. I cannot wait for it to arrive! I am hoping it will be full of plants by the summer!
