Alba - Early Years Day Nursery is the UK's first ever "Head Start - Joy Nursery". Every aspect of teaching has been adapted using the latest neuroscience research, to help pupils develop the most valuable of skills - the skill of wellbeing. Evidence shows that wellbeing, the long term joy that comes from within, rather than from external sources, is badly needed for modern children. Research also shows - it can be taught, making them happier in the long term, more emotionally resilient to stress, setback and stresses, happier and enjoying closer relationships in life. So they combined the latest available evidence to help pupils develop this amazing gift for life.

The unique environment and curriculum goes well beyond Ofsted's expectations for an early years provider. Emotional intelligence, mindfulness and compassion are at the core of everything they do. The vast outdoor space - 22 acres of land and garden - plays an important role in this process. From growing herbs and vegetables with the children in the summer, to building hedgehog and bug hotels in the autumn, to nature walks throughout the year - pupils learn to notice, appreciate and take care of nature around. They learn to listen, to observe and to respect their own feelings and those of others.

The nursery believes that nurturing a desire to learn serves pupils well for the rest of their lives, providing scaffolding for future learning. STEM experiments, yoga, and mindfulness play a key role in daily life, building on their curiosity and developing concentration. The sensory room provides a source of exploration and wonder. And activities are designed to nurture children's curiosity, while developing a range of their physical, social, emotional and creative skills.

Prior to April 2025 I had happy Children attending this setting, they were progressing and enjoying their days at the nursery. Then from about mid April Key staff members of many years left leaving children without Key workers until July 2025. Children have regressed in key milestones and fully potty
trained children are now wetting themselves several times throughout the day. Worryingly poor management have caused trauma and distress to many children and parents to the point of a group complaint being devised submitted. The settings appealing aspects such and yoga, meditation and nature walks have stopped. Different staff every day and impatient and not friendly permanent staff have contributed to a serious decline in the safeguarding of children in the setting.

The nursery was taken over by new owners 2 years ago and parents were encouraged to post a review, which I gladly did and rated the nursery 5 stars. The nursery was fantastic, and we were assured that the existing staff would remain, and the nursery would go from strength to strength.

In recent

months, all of the long-serving staff have been pushed out, and the quality of care has deteriorated dramatically. The nursery now runs on minimal staffing, often relying on staff brought in from other nurseries within the chain. Unfortunately, these individuals appear overwhelmed, unfamiliar with the children, and unable to manage effectively.

All of the fun activities that the children enjoyed like nature walks, cooking and yoga have stopped. The atmosphere has changed, and the children now seem unsettled and unhappy.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We had to dismiss 2 members of staff in the last 2 of months and our deputy was off sick. This caused a temporary disruption while we hire replacements. We have…read more

My daughter loves nursery, forming wonderful connections with the staff and her peers. The team has been amazing from day one, and after seeing the care our son received, we knew we wanted the same for our daughter. The staff nurture each child individually, ensuring they feel heard and valued. It's
incredible to see her growing into such an independent, confident little person. The team supports her well, maintaining great communication about her interests and home life, making her feel truly seen. She enjoys playing with older children, and the staff help her navigate different age groups. The outdoor space was another deciding factor, with a manager who is a passionate gardener, that enthusiasm is passed down to the children. Recently, the children have been learning about different cultures, and the staff make every effort to ensure inclusion. We can't thank the manager and her team enough, knowing our daughter is happy, safe, and excited to go each day brings us so much joy.

This is a fantastic nursery. Each and every member of staff is invested in the development of the children. The nursery has a great ethos and the outdoor space is unlike any other. My child has attended this nursery for just over 2 years and has come so far with her development milestones, social skills
and academic ability. The staff devote much of their personal time to making each day a new and exciting experience for the children. Events and trips are regularly organised to give the children something to look forward to in addition to gaining independence. The staff actively ask about and implement feedback from parents regarding their children, working as a team to meet each child's needs. I thoroughly recommend this nursery.

The nursery has rendered quality care since my daughter was enrolled there. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. They are supportive and helpful in raising the little ones under their care. The children are empowered to be well-rounded and not only learn about the standard and basic classroom lessons
but also about self-improvement and development. I am extremely satisfied with the services Alba Nursery is offering and I am eternally grateful for their support and help.

For us, my child and me as well, the nursery is more than just a place. This place is like our second home. The staff knows and wants to always know more about my child so it progresses well. My child is a SEN child and I've been welcomed with a pure heart. The staff provided everything for my child
so he felt safe and happy. My son goes and comes from the nursery with a huge smile. Always happy. The staff tells me everything that is happening during the day as my child does not communicate yet as he should in his normal age. I never had any worries even when he started a year ago because I had my two older daughters in the nursery too. Same great experience this time. I am overjoyed with the staff and this place and I am recommending the nursery to whoever asks for a good place. The Alba is the best place with outstanding facilities. I love the staff and the things they do for children. I can see how my child progresses from week to week. Thank you Alba!

Very good, helpful, very nice nursery. Helpful staff, who helped me when I needed it. They were very understanding and were there every step when my son needed. They taught him in a fun way and he comes home to show me what he as done that day and sings songs with me. Thank you very much.

Great nursery with an excellent outdoor space for the children.

Good staff who you feel really care about the kids.

The app they use is also good and easy to navigate.

Activities are also excellent and our son loves it.

The warmth, expertise and dedication of the staff at this Nursery makes it an excellent place for little ones. My son has been attending since August 2021 and we are so happy with the nursery. My eldest attended until August 2018 and the fact the staff remembered him and his specific habits says much
about how much they focus on the children. Activities are varied and are focused on set themes for the week. Parents are kept up to date through an app with a daily diary and more focused golden moments around how the child is developing. The focus on mental wellbeing in early years (yoga, mindfulness) is extremely welcomed for establishing good habits early. The concept of the 'kindness jar' is excellent, not least because of the positive impact it has had on behaviour at home. As a parent, I am especially grateful for the flexibility of nursery staff. They, more than anything, are what makes this nursery such a good choice for my children. The nursery is situated in a sports pavilion and the outdoor space is well utilised through a play area in which there is a bug hotel, gardening area and before harvest they even had a scarecrow! It is a nice touch when children prepare food they have grown to have as part of meals and snacks. Many celebrations are marked at the nursery, from Christmas, Diwali, Eid, bonfire night and Halloween. For the latter, the staff put on an excellent party for the children including spooky snacks and face painting. They mixed fun with opportunities to learn and the children had a great day. Parent voice is taken on board - for example, they recently introduced an option to send a packed lunch or have a pre-prepared paid-for meal. This flexibility allows parents to do what suits them best. Overall, a gem of a nursery which does all and more that you would want an early years setting to do.

I only have good things to say about this nursery, I have my two children in this nursery, the oldest is almost 4 years old and the youngest is 1 year old, both started around 7/8 months in this nursery. This nursery may not be very big inside but I can say that there is nothing missing, the children
have lots of toys, they do a lot of activities, they learn a lot and most importantly, the employees are very loving, they treat our children and parents like family, we all work together for the children's well-being. The outdoor space is very spacious and children love exploring there. I recommend this nursery without excitation. I'm very happy to have made the decision to put my children in this nursery.

My son attended the nursery aged 18 months - 4 years. He was really happy there and we both liked the fact that there were plenty of opportunities to use the massive field and trees in the rugby pitch grounds. He would often come home and tell me about things he got up to as part of his learning. There
were many opportunities for parents to come in and see their children in various parades/singsongs and I have many happy pictures taken there during his time. I now have his development folder which is filled in in such detail and full of milestone pictures. He is now more than ready for full-time school in September 2023. I would recommend the nursery to any parent that wants their child to enjoy the great outdoors. The food is excellent value and a very good range and of course nutritional too. The staff are experienced and have been there for a good number of years but are still young enough to run around after the children in that big field!

Highly recommended. I am very happy that I chose this nursery and my son was delighted with the activities for children, which were very attractive. They can plant their seeds, flowers, make cupcakes, a lot of manual work. Thank you for your work and support.

We have both our children attending the nursery (aged 4 and 2 years) and we are generally very happy. Both are keen to go and spend the time with the nursery staff and friends, they are caring and have the best interest for the children. Though they are not a pre-school, they help prepare the children
for school: hand washing, toilet ready, dressing up on their own, reading and writing alphabet/numbers depending on the child's pace, reading and writing their name. We feel they have been really good with our eldest son and challenged him more than we anticipated in a positive way. What remains challenging is communication: wanting to know more about the child's progress. We had to request a meeting instead of it being organised/proposed in advance.

My son left this nursery today as he starts school in September. He has attended for the past 3 and a half years since he was a baby. He has enjoyed going to the nursery and been really happy here. When we were potty trained him at home the nursery supported this when he was there and it was a great
joint effort. He engaged in various activities to develop his skills and generally have fun! He often came home with stories of what he had learnt as well as pieces of artwork he had produced. He really enjoyed the food and complimented the chef often at home. The staff and managers are really friendly and helpful and I felt confident leaving my son with them as they are kind and considerate towards children. There are regular events and celebrations parents are invited to attend such as sports day and a Christmas party. My son made lots of friends. My husband and I highly recommend this nursery as does my son!

The Early Year Day Nursery is a lovely environment for the children. The staff are like family. The children interact with each other as a community. The open space outside feels like you are in the countryside, and the children can take long walks exploring nature. The activities are very creative,
and it is easy to engage with the teachers as they are kind and open.

All staff at The Early Years Day Nursery are great with my son. They are kind patient and encouraging. He loves going in every day and comes home telling me what fun they had, each week they learn something new and their recent activity of watching caterpillars turn into butterflies has been one of
his favourites.

Lovely nursery. The staff are all really nice, take care of the children well and form a bond with them. This was our first nursery and their efforts to help settle my daughter at a slightly older age than the norm were brilliant. She developed communication skills and also learnt to mix with her peers.
I felt she flourished.

My daughter has been at the nursery since she was a few months old. I cannot recommend this nursery highly enough. The staff are amazing and absolute experts in all areas of childcare. They helped me to get my daughter to vary her diet, learn the necessary social skills and hit every development milestone.
My daughter is going to school shortly and I will be so upset to say goodbye to the staff, kids and the overall environment. The owner is phenomenal and really cares about all the kids and knows them all personally. She also knows all the parents. It is a safe environment with a perfect outdoor play area, due to the huge playing fields. Overall, I have absolutely loved this nursery and the staff, parents and kids have all been so lovely and warm. I wish them all the best of luck and would have no hesitance in recommending it to anyone with small kids. Thanks to everyone at the Early Years for your care and all your efforts.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.142)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.142) out of 10 for Alba - Early Years Day Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.242 for Alba - Early Years Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (95 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (18 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.242
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alba - Early Years Day Nursery is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 number of registered child places is 6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
