Based in the Coin Street neighbourhood centre, minutes from Waterloo station, Coin Street’s 84-place day nursery and specialist baby care unit provides high quality, affordable childcare for children from 6 months to 5 years. The nursery’s highly qualified team has an informed educational philosophy that ensures every child develops at their own pace.

The practitioners choose activities to extend each child’s learning and development process and to broaden horizons. Their diverse backgrounds are celebrated and reflected in the activities they choose.

Coin Street nursery recognises that each child’s learning process is unique, therefore they support the natural disposition of each child to explore, investigate and discover the things that interest them and celebrate their achievements in portfolios.

The nursery has interactive areas for activities. A safe outside play area allows children to explore and enjoy their environment, while the Family Room offers privacy for parents. Children are taken on educational places of interest.

Recent trips include:

•        Weekly dance sessions at Rambert
•        Weekly football sessions at Colombo Community Centre
•        China Town to celebrate Chinese New Year
•        Tate Modern
•        British Transport Museum
•        London City Farm
•        Forrest School.

The staff develop strong partnerships with parents and offer sensitive support during the settling-in process and ongoing contact through a key nursery worker. Their sessions include at least two meals and snacks, all included in the fees and meals are prepared daily by an on-site chef, advised by a dietitian.

The nursery is part of Coin Street’s Family and Children’s centre. This is often a benefit to parents as they offer free programmes to help support your child and you along the way.

This is a fantastic nursery, great facilities, lovely location and amazing staff – from key person to office support. My daughter, who has been attending the nursery since she was a 1-year-old. During this time we have been extremely happy with her development, she has thrived there and staff couldn’t
be more helpful, enthusiastic and friendly. She has made a lot of friends and has a good relationship with the teachers. They learn something new every day and I love that they play outside in the fresh air every day (unless of high winds) which I think is extremely important. The programme of activities is well thought out, educational and engaging. Communication with parents is also excellent. It breaks my heart that I have to leave after 2 years but only because we are relocating to a different part of the town. I recommend this Nursery 100%, don’t hesitate your child will love it here.
Reply from Marie Kapszewicz, Senior Operations Manager at Coin Street NurseryAll the staff would like to wish you and your family the very best of wishes with your move and hope that your daughter continues to flourish and thrive. She has been a joy and we have greatly enjoyed being part of her learning journey. She will be missed by many of the staff in the nursery. Thank you so much for such a wonderful review.

Our son has been at Coin Street Nursery since he was just over a year old, he is leaving at the end of this summer to start school. We have been very pleased with the team at Coin Street and he has loved his time there, the keyworkers really care about the children, and the building and facilities are
great. For a central London nursery, they have lovely outdoor space, and it is a way back from any main roads which we felt was important. The staff turnover at Coin Street seems low which was a real positive for us, and they don't seem to need to use agency workers all that much. The kids all seem happy and they go on some great local excursions to the river or nearby parks and playgrounds. I am very happy to recommend Coin Street to any potential new parents, we felt it was right for our son straight after our first visit as we had a really positive feeling when viewing the nursery and meeting the staff.
Reply from Marie Kapszewicz, Senior Operations Manager at Coin Street NurseryThank you so much for such a lovely reflective review. The nursery team are glad that your son has had a wonderful experience whilst attending Coin Street and we will miss him greatly. Please let him know that we wish him all the best for his future learning journey, please keep in touch as we'd love to hear how he gets on.

First and only nursery needed for my daughter. All the staff were so accommodating when she started as settling was tricky and had to be repeated a few times due to long absences.
She loved being there and was hard to drag her away.
She often talks about the nursery and the staff still! Has made
some lifelong friends, we hope, in terms of the other kids and staff.
Full credit goes to all the staff and activities they did with her.

We sent our daughter (9 months) to Coin Street nursery, mainly due to the proximity to our flat but also after having attended Stay and Play sessions in the same building and hearing positive stories from other parents. She took a little longer than hoped to settle in but I think that was partly due
to specific age and illness and having not been left with anyone else before. Once she had settled in properly she thrived in the nursery, enjoying the toys, engaging with the other children and staff, and eating varied, freshly prepared meals every day. The Explorers room at Coin Street has so many toys and books and is often changed around so the children never get bored of the setup. It's unfortunate that her key worker left after a couple of months of her settling in but she had bonded well with other staff so it didn't impact her too much.
I would recommend Coin Street to any other parents!

Our daughter attended Coin Street Nursery from the age of 19 months until she was ready for school this September. I cannot speak highly enough of this nursery.
The staff were very attentive and understanding throughout the settling in phase and beyond. They always had time to talk and always fed
backstories from the day. She absolutely loved her time there and made a strong group of friends whom she is still friends with, the bonus being we get along with the parents too!
Coin Street is truly a great community to be a part of and the nursery was a perfect start to our daughter’s education.

My son was at Coin Street Nursery from 11 months, he is now four and in school.
His time at Coin Street was positive and he still talks about the nursery and the people who looked after him there. He reached all his developmental goals and exceeded in most of them thanks to the wonderful staff at
Coin Street, my son is a happy and confident child.

My son had a wonderful time at Coin Street Nursery! He was there only for 5 months, from 14 to 18 months old, but it was a very important and formative experience for him, being his first time in a nursery (we left because we are moving). My son settled in easily thanks to the care and warmth and thoughtfulness
of his key person and soon began to be comfortable with all the other practitioners of the Explorers Room. He loved socialising with the other babies and by the time he left he knew most of them by name. As parents, we were very positively impressed with the 1-to-1 care that the practitioners have for every single child, and with the many thoughtful verbal and written observations that they offered. We loved the variety of experiences and creative activities that they created for the children: from painting to building, to caring for plants, to seeing little ducklings hatch from the eggs and grow - What unique memories of his time at Coin Street nursery!
Reply from Angelica Brown, Early Years Manager ' Explorers Room at Coin Street NurseryThank you for your wonderful review of the care we provided for your son. We certainly enjoyed our time with him, seeing him develop from 14 months to now has been amazing. The key person and the rest of us will certainly miss him. It was also lovely getting to know you both as parents and we valued your support with his settling in and your partnership with the key person and the rest of the team. We wish you all the best with your move and please don’t hesitate to visit us at any time you are nearby.
Regards, Angelica Brown.

My baby went to the nursery as I was studying in King’s College nearby. The staff were always greeting us with a smile and my little boy learned so much! At only two and a half, he learned the different shapes, singing all the alphabet and to count to ten with lots and lots of vocabulary to express
himself! He bonded nicely with his key person but also with all other members of staff and he now teaches me all the nursery rhythms he learned there.

Coin Street staff are brilliant. That, the open, welcoming environment, good quality and variety of toys and activities made this our first choice and they haven't disappointed. Yes, it's not perfect, and I don't agree with having any screen (they have one large one they use for programmes), but both
our children have always felt safe, secure and, I think, loved here, which is most important to us. Their child-led planning and facilitation lets the children get on with the important business of learning through whatever play they are most interested in.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Coin Street.

Our little boy loves his time at Coin Street - it's a beautifully light, clean nursery with lots of space (indoors and out). The staff are so caring and the kids all seem to have great fun! There's messy play, a lovely safe outdoors space and cosy reading corners. The food is delicious and home cooked
on site. The management team are communicative and really welcoming - our little boy is flourishing there, I highly recommend it.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.398)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.398) out of 10 for Coin Street Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.935 for Coin Street Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (101 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.935
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.463 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Coin Street Nursery is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 number of registered child places is 11.8. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.8 = 0.763
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
