Welcome to Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School and Pre-School. Their mission is for every child to be happy and healthy, enjoying their early years at the setting, and to work closely in partnership with parents to provide quality education in a nurturing environment for two to five year olds. The nursery school follows the Montessori philosophy which promotes independence, a child’s love for learning and a respect for self, others, the community and the world.
The experienced teachers are passionate about child development and follow the “Birth to 5” Matters curriculum which ensures that the unique child’s needs are met. The team constantly challenge a child’s abilities to ensure that they are well prepared to move on to their next big step when transitioning to primary school.
They have regular visits from ‘Boogie Beats’ and they also are proud of their close relationship with Banstead Manor Care Home where the children are regular visitors and are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities with the residents. They also provide weekly Forest School sessions for children aged three years and upwards to experience new challenges in an on-site outdoor environment.
In January 2022, they will be moving to new permanent and purpose built premises at 40 Brighton Road, Banstead, which is just a short distance from their existing location and which will provide a large, bright open plan environment with a large outdoor play area incorporating a forest school area and a variety of modern equipment providing children with a stimulating environment in which to thrive.
The team look forward to meeting you at Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School!

About this price
How funding is applied, how the monthly figure is calculated.More info
- Working parents of 2 to 3 year olds can usually claim up to 30 funded hours a week, and some families on qualifying benefits can claim 15 hours regardless of working status. The working-parent hours depend on each parent meeting the minimum earnings rules and earning under £100,000 a year. This nursery applies funded hours during term time only. You've selected 30 funded hours.
- This nursery applies up to 6 funded hours per day, used only during term time. With your selected funding, 18 hours are covered each week. Hours beyond this, including the early and late parts of the day, are charged at the standard rate.
- We work out the total cost across the year and divide by 12, so the figure shown is a smoothed monthly average. In practice, nurseries bill in different ways. Some bill monthly at this average. Others bill weekly, or charge for what happened that week or month, which can vary across the year. Confirm billing details with the nursery when you enquire.

We have had two children attend Burgh Wood Montessori and since the manager has taken over the nursery the setting has been transformed from great to truly exceptional, and the changes which have been implemented have had a positive impact in every area – from improved equipment, creation of a...
As a family, we were sad that our journey at Burgh Wood ended (apparently there is a requirement to start primary school – much to my daughter’s disappointment) but love that we remain part of the wider alumni family! I would highly recommend this setting to anyone looking to give their children the best head start in their education in a warm, friendly, caring and supportive environment!
Thank you for taking the time to send a review of the school which is much appreciated. We miss you all very much and hope your child is enjoying big school!

Jo holds the Montessori Diploma Qualification to complement her BA (Hons) Degree and has worked with children and families in various establishments for many years.
Before taking over Burgh Wood Montessori Nursery School in November 2016, Jo worked for a charity focusing on vulnerable children and adults and was involved in delivering literacy, drama and parenting workshops. Jo’s career history before taking time out to raise her two children involved working in the City, being actively involved with various charities and running a Beaver group for girls and boys in London.
It has always been a dream of Jo’s to run her own Montessori school and to provide a stimulating and happy environment for children to learn and play.

I have 30+ years of experience in early childhood education across both the UK and Australia, and I am passionate about creating a nurturing, enriching environment where young children can thrive. Throughout my career, I have remained deeply committed to a child-centred approach, ensuring each child feels valued, understood, and empowered in their learning journey. My practice is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which complements the Montessori Approach, where learning is made visible through meaningful documentation and observation. As Nursery Manager, I am committed to leading a team that shares these values.

Early Years Level 3 Qualification
Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL)
I have worked in early years for around 20 years and honestly couldn’t think of anything else I would rather do. I love watching children develop and grow, knowing that I played a part in helping that development. I did leave Early Years for 3 years to help my best friend in her coffee house but really missed being with the children, so I returned!! I have an amazing family: my partner, 1 daughter, 2 boys and 2 dogs, so most of my free time is spent running around after everyone or helping out in the coffee house.

Early Years Level 3 Qualification
I am married with 2 grown-up girls now in their 20s! how time flies…
I worked in the bank for 10 years then left the banking world to stay home and raise our family. Once my girls went to school, I found an interest in child development and wanted to delve further. I completed my Diploma in preschool practice and started working as a practitioner in a Montessori preschool, I found the Montessori method fascinating and so rewarding to see the children gain so much independence and important life skills at such a young age, which will stay with them forever.
After a year I took over as Manager and stayed there for 13 years. I have also had some experience working in Children's Centres and in a nursery within a private school. I am now pleased to be back in a Montessori setting.
My hobbies include anything creative, party decorating, organising and spending time at the beach.

I have worked in childcare for over 20 years. Since leaving school it is all I wanted to do. I have worked in lots of different environments from looking after children in the home nannying to working in early years settings. I love being part of helping a child grow and develop, which is such joy.
I am married and have two children of my own who are both at school. We recently got a puppy so all of this keeps me busy at home.
