WHAT WE ARE LEARNING - WEEK COMMENCING 12TH JANUARY 2026

Next week we will be -

Clever Cats & Clever Kittens This week our word of the week has been new and into next week we will be talking about New Year’s Resolutions and setting goals and achieving what we set out to which is one of our characteristics of learning. 

This week we harvested beans from the garden ready to explore in Spring!

We are starting our new wellbeing story about Lala the Ladybird. We’re in the season of winter so we’ve been taking the opportunities to explore ice and wintery weather and this will continue as we use scissors to develop and practice scissor skills. 

Our older children have been practicing writing this week by putting their names on the lunch list themselves and they will be offered the chance to write their names on their peg card on the way into nursery to continue to have good reasons for writing. 

Ladybirds Next week we will be using soft white flour in our tuff tray to make winter marks and patterns, using different tools to see how the different tools make different marks. We will sprinkle it, swipe it and squish it with our fingers. We will be talking about how the flour feels soft like snow. We will be talking about the weather and different clothing we are wearing to nursery each day to keep us warm.

Butterflies Next week in the Baby Room, the babies will explore “winter snow” using soft, fluffy shaving foam! They will touch and squish the foam to discover its texture, watch it move and change as they play and listen to the gentle sounds it makes when they clap and squeeze it.
