There was cause for celebration at Devonshire Day Nursery in Chiswick as proud practitioners and parents learnt that the setting had achieved an ‘Outstanding’ judgement from Ofsted for the third time running, following an inspection in May.
An outcome achieved by only 10% of all English Early Years providers, the inspector praised the team on Bennett Street for their “excellent understanding of their curriculum and how children learn”, with meticulous planning to ensure each individual child’s needs are met.
In the report the inspector observed that staff know children “incredibly well” and give “lots of encouragement and praise”, resulting in children having “fantastic attitudes towards learning and a strong belief in themselves”, supporting them to be “confident from an early age”.
Practitioners were commended for the “excellent support” provided to children learning English as an additional language, and for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, working closely with other professionals and parents to identify any gaps in learning and quickly address concerns through close monitoring and different toolkits.
Partnerships with families were also admired by the inspector, who noted that “staff form excellent relationships with parents”, starting with in-depth settling-in sessions and building as their children journey through the nursery, with detailed updates, a wealth of resources and support including free parent masterclasses and a home library.
Devonshire Day Nursery Manager, Emmy Avery said;
“I’m incredibly proud of my devoted team for achieving an Outstanding outcome for the third time since 2015 – it’s a reflection of the deep care and commitment shown each and every day at Devonshire. We know how much trust our parents place in us, and it means the world to have this recognised. We couldn’t do this without their input and support, and we’re honoured to be part of each child’s early journey.”
Ofsted Inspector, Becky Phillips explained;
“The provider and staff provide offer a warm and welcoming, home-from-home environment for children. The rooms are incredibly well organised and the resources on offer spark children's curiosity and imaginations excellently. Staff build incredibly secure relationships with children through effective settling-in sessions and provide resources that children can take home to support this process.”
