The focus was on kindness and wellbeing at Westwood Day Nursery in Coventry as children and colleagues marked Mental Health Awareness Week with a series of initiatives.
At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Westwood Way, colleagues created a ‘Kind Words Book’, where they could write messages of appreciation to each other, share compliments and contribute inspirational quotes to boost morale and foster connection.
As a token of gratitude, the management team presented colleagues with sweet treat gifts of mints, along with individual thank you messages to recognise the ‘commit-mint’, ‘encourage-mint’, and ‘involve-mint’ shown to the children in their care and contributions to nursery life.
Meanwhile, pre-schoolers enjoyed delving in to age-appropriate stories like ‘The Colour Monster’ to explore their feelings, as well as taking part in mindfulness crafting activities and yoga sessions to help promote emotional regulation, cognitive function and concentration.
Westwood Day Nursery Manager, Lyndsey Matthews explained;
“Supporting wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at Westwood. That’s why we’re so proud to be supporting YoungMinds as our Charity of the Year. Mental Health Awareness Week is not only a chance to raise awareness but also to reflect on the importance of self-care and connection. The activities this week tie in with our ‘Road to Wellbeing’ map, which the team created during our last inset day to continue building a nurturing environment where everyone feels valued, supported and understood.”
Mental Health Awareness Week is marked from 12th – 18th May 2025.
