Earth Day celebrations at Woodberry

There were learning experiences at every turn for children at Woodberry Day Nursery in Winchmore Hill as they celebrated Earth Day with a series of interactive activities.

At the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Church Hill, colleagues created a station filled with an assortment of seeds in biodegradable pots for children and parents to take home and nurture together through the spring months, with families making a small donation to the setting’s ‘Charity of the Year’ - YoungMinds in exchange for their chosen pot.

As part of the experience, children took to the idyllic garden space outside, where they embarked on a special minibeast hunt and watered the flowers and crops growing in their allotment area, making observations and talking about different colours and sizes.

It is for such initiatives that Woodberry have earnt a prestigious ‘Green Flag’ award from Eco-Schools for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation practices.

Woodberry Day Nursery Deputy Manager, Lucy Harmanda explained;

“This initiative not only encouraged environmental awareness and hands-on learning for the children, but also supported mental health support for young people through charitable giving. We really look forward to hearing about our families’ progress with their pots.”
