There were learning opportunities at every turn for children at Windmill Hill Day Nursery in Swindon as they received an exciting visit from Wiltshire Police officers in their van. Following an interest in emergency vehicles amongst the group, pre-schoolers from the Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Day Nursery on Whitehill Way were delighted to welcome the force, who gave the captivated group a tour of the van, resources and sirens, as well as speaking about the important role they play in keeping people safe within the community. As part of the experience, children had the chance to try on the specialist uniform, including protective vests, hats and even handcuffs, as well as asking the local heroes questions about their role and journey to becoming officers, with the experience inspiring role play and dress up activities back inside, where they put their newfound knowledge into practice. Windmill Hill Quality Manager, Gemma Gill explained; “The children showed such enthusiasm during the visit which was really special to witness; we love following their interests as they learn best when engaged and this really has a lasting impact. We are hugely grateful to the Wiltshire Police officers for taking the time to come and visit and help create amazing memories and a deeper understanding all round.”
