There was delight for devoted children and colleagues from Nursery on the Green in Southall as their passion for the planet earnt them another major environmental accolade.

Having scooped the prestigious ‘Green Flag with Distinction’ as part of the international Eco-Schools scheme for the past two years, pre-schoolers from the setting on Thorncliffe Road were thrilled to add the award to their impressive repertoire for the third time, following a sustained environmental project and curriculum of green topics involving children of all ages.

The accolade, which is the highest achievement in the programme involving children across 64 countries, recognises sustainable initiatives in nursery, which include growing herbs and vegetables to be used in homemade meals, crafting with natural and recycled materials, nature hunts and taking part in litter picking sessions around their local area.

Nursery on the Green also has its own dedicated Eco-Committee, which is made up of a number of Pre-School children and staff who take a lead role in ensuring the rest of nursery is environmentally considerate by ensuring resources like paper aren’t wasted, taps are not left running, lights are switched off where not being used and that knowledge is shared.

Nursery on the Green Deputy Manager, Meera Ladva explained; “We are thrilled to have received the Green Flag with Distinction for the third consecutive year.

"This award recognises our commitment to sustainability and environmental education, as well as our dedication to providing a green and healthy learning environment for our students, which they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.”
