After a week of fundraising activities at nurseries up and down the country with Pudsey Bear-themed paintings, bake sales, all day sing-a-thons and fancy dress days, it was time for a BBC Children In Need celebrity to drop into a few lucky nurseries to say a big thank you to children for their efforts.
Children in Rosedene Nurseries Kader in Acklam were shocked to find Pudsey Bear, the ambassador for BBC Children In Need, arrive at their nursery to thank them for their fundraising efforts.
Rosedene Nurseries Kader is one of 14 childcare settings across Tees Valley and North Yorkshire belonging to the Rosedene Nurseries group which raised over £700 for the charity. “Rosedene have been supporting the BBC Children In Need charity since it first started" said a spokesman for the nursery group. The nursery has been having a nursery rhyme-themed sponsored "sing-a-thon, decorating cookies and painting a giant Pudsey Bear". "We were very pleased to have Pudsey Bear call in to see us."
Meanwhile, Mama Bear’s Day Nursery, which has 23 settings across Bristol, Somerset and Devon have all been working hard for BBC Children In Need.
Children at Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-Schools have been pulling out all the stops for the charity this year with a baked bean bath in Downend to a sponsored sponge-throwing in Clifton. Mama Bear’s nurseries aimed to raise over £6,000 for the charity.
Children at Brislington nursery enjoyed a superhero picnic while children at the Shirehampton nursery took part in a sponsored dance-a-thon.
Bev Driffield from Mama Bear’s Day Nursery said: “We are great supporters of Children In Need every year and each one of our nurseries is taking part in their own unique activities to raise money for the charity.
“It’s a great event for the children to get involved in and, of course, a fantastic cause to support. Last year we raised almost £6,000 so we’re hoping to get to that fantastic figure again.”
Since 1980, Children In Need has raised over £600 million for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. At the televised five-hour BBC Children In Need Appeal show on 17 November, children and adults across the country watched heart-breaking stories about the lives of disadvantaged children, and collectively raised (to date 20 November) £50,168,562 for the charity.
