Southampton children enhance science knowledge with float or sink exercise

Children at Bright Horizons Southampton Day Nursery and Preschool have been enhancing their science knowledge by experimenting with objects to see if they float or sink.

The children were given a variety of objects to place into water and decide prior to whether the object would float or sink. The activity was part of the organisation’s Growing Scientists enhancement.

“After this the children were tasked with finding their own objects and guessing before putting it into water if it would float or sink,’” said Nursery Manager Deirdre Mellors. “They then tested their predictions.”

Bright Horizons’ Growing Scientists enhancement which aims to help children identify scientific activities that occur in their everyday lives.
