Lending library

Young bookworms are delighted at the launch of a new lending library at their farm-based day nursery.

Children at High Bank Day Nursery in Stapleton, near Darlington, have been issued with their own library card and each week they are able to choose one book to take home with them.

High Bank Day Nursery Manager Hayley Grainger said: “We have lots of books in the nursery which the children enjoy reading when they are here, but we wanted to take this further and introduce them to the concept of a lending library.

“They really enjoy choosing a book to take home and when they return it we ask them a few questions about the book.

“Our parents do a great job encouraging the children to read, which is so important, but this is also about teaching them, at an early age, about libraries, which is a life skill.”
