In 2014 Cherry Childcare celebrated 21 years as a leading family owned child care provider with nurseries in Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. In addition to this Cherry Childcare also celebrate the achievement of 3 nurseries during the last quarter of last year getting rated by Ofsted as Outstanding. These were Cherryvale at Farnborough, CherryTown at Sandhurst and CherryField at Epsom. No sooner had the celebrations quietened down but the sad news was announced about the Chief Executive and founder Barry Rolfe. Whilst Barry was cycling in January he passed away suddenly. This has been a major shock, as all who knew Barry would say he was fit, full of life and energy.
Barry started Cherry Childcare back in 1993 following a long and successful career with Johnson Wax. He started with a single nursery near Chertsey with only 15 staff and through his commitment to excellence in childcare and support from his team (some of which are still with the company today) he was able to build this to a successful 10 strong nursery group. In addition to the nurseries he also created a training and a recruitment company to support all of the nurseries needs and further their development.
His son Nigel Rolfe was invited to join the company 6 years ago as Barry started to step back. Nigel said “He was an inspiration to all of us and he lived life to the full. He would have wished us to continue to provide high standards of childcare and keep Cherry Childcare as a successful family owned nursery group. Dad introduced me into the business to keep it very much in the family not just for now but for generations to come. It is our responsibility to ensure the business continues to grow, remains successful and true to the core values laid down by him”.
Barry was well known within the nursery sector in the South and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
