Footballer Jermaine Pennant, was one of the players in a charity golf day that raised £4000 for the Peter Pan Centre for children with special needs.
The nursery held its first annual golf day this month with a host of local Staffordshire businesses and well known sporting stars taking part.
The Newcastle-Under-Lyme nursery held the event Trentham Golf Club. Footballer, Mr Pennant, currently on loan from Stoke City to Wolves played within the winning team Beswicks Solicitors. Stoke based Knights solicitors came in at a close second place with the remaining eight teams as runners up.
After a full day’s golfing, the event came to a close with warm-hearted speeches from the nursery staff and parents at an evening award ceremony and meal.
Head of fundraising, Sophia Baker said: “Without the support of local businesses the charities first annual golf day would not have been as successful as it was. We were so lucky to have such glorious weather and the day was enjoyed by all involved.
“The event was also an opportunity for one of our parents to address the golfers and provide an insightful account of her family’s experiences with The Peter Pan Nursery. Everyone was extremely moved whilst parent Natalie Meakin spoke of her son Harry, his special needs and his time at the nursery.
“After such an incredible turn-out the charity is already looking forward to organising next year’s event and we now have a great fundraising target to exceed year on year.”
